Chapter 51: Chapter 51
Madeline hung up the call abruptly, not wanting to listen to any more of Lance’s drunken ramblings.
She returned the phone to the staff and sat right next to Zane.
"Was that your boyfriend calling just now?" Zane smiled mysteriously. "He must have a powerful connection to interrupt our shooting session."
"He—" Madeline wanted to say no, but that would make her sound even more ridiculous, as she sounded like a woman quarreling with her boyfriend. "Ugh, yeah, he’s my boyfriend."
"And your boyfriend is Mr. Grant?" Zane inquired even more. "Which Grant is your boyfriend? Their family’s connection runs deep."
"Better not talk about this," Madeline said. Lance totally ruined her mood, and talking about that scum would only make her even more pissed..
"Alright, let’s just continue our date," Zane said. He held her hand gently and stared at the monkey hill with her, trying to gain some peace before they left the Ubud Monkey Forest.

"Well, you heard it from her. I can’t do much, Lance," Valerie said helplessly. This lovers’ quarrel was far more annoying than she thought. Had she known Lance would react so badly, she wouldn’t have sent him the highlights of the show and left him in the dark for the entire month.
"Are you fucking kidding me? Of course, I’m not going to accept that!" Lance continued yelling. He was on the verge of snapping right now as jealousy and anxiety began to crawl into his heart.
"Then what do you want me to do? Can’t you hear what she said just now? Or are you too drunk for that?"
"I heard her loud and clear, but I’m still not going to accept that!" Lance said. "Cancel the whole thing and bring her back to me!"
"Okay, you’re too drunk to be reasonable." Valerie rolled her eyes. "Madeline will get even more angry if you do some stupid shit like that."
"Then I will book a flight to Bali now!"
"That’s even worse! Madeline told you to wait for a month. She is already giving you an ultimatum to give her so much shit," Valerie said. "It’s better for you to believe your girlfriend won’t sleep with Zane Eastwood, the hottest Hollywood actor right now."
"What? I’m more handsome than him in person!" Lance insisted.
"Well, that’s not wrong," Valerie muttered. "But he has the star aura. He’s a self-made actor, while you’re just a rich boy from a super-rich family. I’d pick him over you if I had the choice."
"You’re not helping, Val," Lance said. He knew that Valerie was very blunt with her opinion. But she only made his anxiety even worse.
"Well, if you’re really that desperate, why don’t you send a voice note for her? Just send it to me first, and I’ll let her know."
"Voice note..."
"Yeah, tell her everything you want to say, then you can sleep. You will regret your drunken rambling tomorrow morning, Lance."
Beep.
—
Valerie hung up on him, waiting for Lance to do what he should do.
Lance knew deep down that he would regret everything the next morning, but for now, he just wanted to prevent another man from touching Madeline. This fire in his heart was excruciating, so he wanted to stop it no matter what.
Thus, he followed Valerie’s suggestion. He sent a voicemail to Madeline. He didn’t think much about what he wanted to say. He simply rambled about everything in his heart before pressing send.
He threw his phone on the table and laid on the sofa. His head was spinning as he was having a headache, and the last image he saw before he went to sleep was Madeline, who acted so sweetly in front of him. She was sweet, and her lips tasted as sweet as candy.
He wasn’t a person with a sweet tooth, but Madeline might be an exception because her sweetness was addictive to him.
’My candy...’
For some reason, Madeline’s image was like an antidote to him. He felt at ease just imagining her, and he fell asleep quickly.

Madeline finished her date with Zane in Ubud Monkey Forest, so they went to have an early dinner somewhere. They entered the car and drove away from the tourist spot.
There was nothing but silence in the car. Madeline was still in a terrible mood. She also didn’t understand why she would get so worked up over Lance.
They had a contractual relationship. That was it.
But the way Lance stirred her heart only to betray her hurt so much.
’Probably because it reminds me of how Jon stirred my heart and betrayed me. Lance also lied to me, just like Jon did...’ Madeline thought. ’But I was deeply in love with Jon, so it’s natural for me to get hurt over his betrayal. But why do I have to get so worked up over Lancelot Grant? We’re just business partners.’
Madeline also didn’t understand what was on her mind. There were many contradictions she couldn’t answer.
"Miss Rose, the Producer sent a voice note to you. She said to let you listen to this and then delete it," the staff sitting at the back said.
"Okay." Madeline accepted the phone and then listened to the recording intended for her. She put the phone against her ear and lowered the volume.
And just as she expected, it was Lance’s voice.
-Voice note-
"Maddy... Baby... I..." Lance paused for a while. His heavy breath indicated that he had been so worked up for the past hour. "I’m sorry for lashing out at you. I was jealous, and I’m angry."
"But I’m not angry at you. I’m angry at myself for putting you in this situation and then regretting it."
"Please give me a chance, baby. I want to mend my mistakes. Please don’t sleep with him. I will be crushed if you do that."
"I, Lancelot Atlas Grant, will be the best boyfriend you will ever have. I promise."
-Voice note end-
