Chapter 29: Chapter 29
Lance ended the call abruptly and laughed as he put his phone on the coffee table.
"Cute," Lance murmured as he imagined what kind of reaction Madeline was making right now.
He wasn’t an idiot. He had a lot of flings in the past and knew when a woman was falling in love with him.
Madeline was not acting when she got embarrassed after their kisses. It was cute to see her blushing like a cherry because it fully confirmed that the real Madeline was not the same woman she portrayed in front of the camera.
She was very careful and guarded, but one kiss was enough to make her feel dizzy. It was so funny to see her brain turn to mush.
But, as fun as it looked, Lance had no intention of chasing a real relationship with this woman. Madeline might be a good actress, but she was gullible and easy to sway, the worst type of woman to marry.
"Well, she is going to be in love with me, which is good for my plan," Lance smirked. "She’ll look even more believable."
Lance nibbled on his lower lip as he reminisced about his kiss with Madeline.
He wouldn’t deny that the kiss was indeed addictive. There was something clicking in his brain when he tasted her lips.
He also liked how she took the chance to sit on his lap. It was unexpected, but a pleasant surprise indeed.
"Madeline Rose..." Lance muttered. He tried to imagine Madeline’s face, as she was wearing thick makeup.
But what he got was the image of Madeline’s almost bare face.
She was cute, very cute, and sweet.
It made him want to preserve it, ensuring that no one except him could see the real, sweet Madeline.
But as he kept thinking about it, he quickly dispelled the idea and mocked himself. "Ridiculous. I don’t want anyone to see her real face because it would ruin their fantasy about Madeline Rose."

Madeline went to the hospital on Sunday. She was in a great mood because she could finally pay for all the medical bills on top of paying upfront for her mother’s treatment and medication.
She went straight to the administration and used the black card to pay for everything.
"I’m so glad you can pay the medical bills, Madeline. I was afraid that I couldn’t extend the bills’ due date any longer," the admin said as she validated all the payments made by Madeline. "I’m so glad that your work has gotten you something."
This admin was one of the rare people who appreciated Madeline, alongside the nurses caring for her mother.
Though Madeline never told anyone, they knew from her mother that Madeline’s father left after a gambling addiction turned into huge family debt.
They also knew that Madeline was the only breadwinner in the family. She had a lot on her shoulders, so the least they could do was judge her actions on TV.
After all, they had seen Madeline walking in and out of the hospital looking like a regular woman—a very beautiful one at that—but far from the controversial bombshell beauty on social media.
Madeline smiled back at the admin. "Thanks. I’m so glad that my new boss is helping me with this. He told me to use his card to pay for the bills."
"Your boss is a good man," the admin said. She handed the receipt to Madeline as proof. "All the bills have been paid off, including the bills for six more months of her stay here."
"Thanks, I’m going to see my Mom now."
Madeline left the administrative office and visited her mother, who was sitting on the bed while watching a sitcom from the 90s.
"Hi, Mom," Madeline said as she approached her mother’s bed.
Diana smiled back at her daughter. "You look happy today. Do you have any good news?"
"I do!" Madeline said. She put a basket of fruit on the table next to the bed and went to wash her hands before cutting an apple for her mother.
"Really? What is it? Did you finally find a good man for yourself?" Diana asked.
"W—Well, not yet, but I have even better news!" Madeline said. She put a small plate of sliced apples on her Mom’s lap and added, "My new boss gave me a huge bonus for doing the job well, so I can pay for all the medical bills! I also paid for your treatment for the next six months!"
Madeline expected her mother to be happy with her, but Diana looked concerned instead. "Then what about you?"
"What about me?"
"Yes, did you use all of those bonuses for me? Oh God, Madeline, you shouldn’t do that!" Diana scolded. "I can’t bear to use all your money while you’re starving with Nathan at home!"
"Ah, don’t worry about that, Mom," Madeline smiled bitterly. "My bonus is enough to cover everything. My new boss is just too generous for his own good."
"Ah, that’s relieving." Diana let out a relieved sigh. "Please take care of yourself and your little brother, too. I’m sorry that I can’t be with you both for now. If there is a miracle and I survive this, I’ll start working again to pay you back for all the money you’ve spent on me, Maddy."
"But if I die... then at least you have one less problem to worry about." Diana tried to make it a joke, but it backfired and made Madeline sad instead.
She held her Mom’s hand and said, "No need to think about it. I will do anything for you and Nathan."
Diana stared at her daughter, whose heart was very soft and sensitive. "I’m sorry that I can’t protect you, Madeline. You went through a difficult time without any support. I know it must be hard for you."
Madeline lowered her head slightly to dodge her Mom’s eyes. She didn’t want to cry in front of her. "It’s fine for me, Mom. But I will have to work out of Los Angeles for a month, so I won’t be able to visit for a while, Mom."
