Chapter 27: Chapter 27
Lance didn’t allow Madeline to reject the offer, though Madeline didn’t plan to reject it, anyway.
She was just a bit reluctant to leave her mother and brother for a month straight, especially Nathan, because they didn’t have a good relationship with their relatives, so he’d need to take care of everything all by himself.
But this opportunity was indeed too good to pass up.
"You can leave now. Don’t forget to buy a lot of necessary outfits for the month," Lance suggested.
"Okay, thank you, Val, Lance. I’ll leave now," Madeline said. She turned around, but before she stepped out, Lance suddenly called her name.
"Maddy."
"Yes?" Madeline looked over her shoulder and saw Lance grinning at her. He tilted his head slightly and asked, "Where’s my kiss?"
Madeline froze on the spot. She didn’t expect that she would have to kiss Lance in front of his cousin.
She knew that she had to play pretend as his girlfriend, but it was still too sudden.
"Maddy?"
Madeline snapped out of her daze when Lance called her name again. She turned around and walked towards Lance.
She tried to make it natural by sitting on his lap, and Lance’s gaze deepened as he pinched her thighs.
"Are you in the mood right now? Be patient, alright? My cousin is still here," Lance said.
Madeline said nothing, but her face was as red as a tomato. She was so embarrassed that she wanted to jump out of the window.
But the show must go on, even in front of his cousin. She leaned into him and kissed him quickly at the corner of his lips, much to Lance’s satisfaction.
"Good girl, you can go now."
"Um, you’re embarrassing me," Madeline said while playfully hitting his chest.
Lance began to heave as desire rose within him as well. Initially, he was just trying to convince Valerie, his most logical cousin, that he was indeed in love with Madeline.
But now he wanted more.
"One kiss is not enough," Lance said. He stole a quick kiss right on her lips, leaving her stupefied, as that would be her first kiss after four years. "We can do this later. Now go. It’s hard to control myself with you around."
Madeline got up from his lap and walked out of the CEO’s office with a mushy brain. Still, she couldn’t believe that her kiss was stolen just like that.
"Get a room. You two are disgusting," Valerie scowled after Madeline left the office. "And now you have a lipstick stain on your cheek and lips. Gross."
"As I told you, I am in love with her," Lance proclaimed without any intention of wiping the lipstick stain. "It’s hard to control myself."
"I don’t really care about your love life. You had far too many exes under your belt," Valerie sneered, though deep down, even Lance knew how observant and somewhat gossipy Valerie was. So convincing her was one of the main objectives. "But I’m quite surprised you seem very biased towards this woman. You even created a reality show for her. Is there any special meaning behind your infatuation?"
"I could say that she’s the Bonnie of my Clyde," Lance joked. "The moment I saw her, I knew we were meant to be together. Maybe it’s fate."
"Stop being corny! Ugh, okay, I’ll stop asking," Valerie rolled her eyes. "Anyway, about the swimming part of the show?"
"Keep it," Lance ordered.
Valerie paused for a moment. "You want me to keep the swimming part in the show?"
"Yes, but don’t tell her."
"... Is there any particular reason for us to do this?"
"I need her to be even more sensational, more popular, and controversial," Lance said. "Let her find a way out of that sticky situation. I’m sure she can find her way out."
"You’re so evil, Lancelot," Valerie said, shaking her head. "I can’t believe this is your way to show that you love her. She will probably break up with you after this show."
"Trust me, she won’t." Lance’s eyes turned cold as he had everything planned out in his head. "She will thank me for it."

Madeline felt like she was floating as she paced through Lance’s office.
She ignored Deborah, the secretary who called her name, and asked if she needed to make another appointment with Mr. Grant.
She also ignored the receptionist, who asked for the VIP access card back. She was absent-minded until Ada drew near and asked, "Are you done with your business with Mr. Grant, Miss?"
"Ah, yes," Madeline snapped out of her daze. Though her red cheeks had already turned normal, her ears were still hot and red. She cleared her throat, realizing she had been acting like a teen girl.
"A—Ada, I need to go to Rodeo Drive again. I have to buy a few more sets of clothes," Madeline said.
"More? Are you sure, Miss?" Ada asked. "I mean, I have nothing against it. I’m just wondering since you don’t seem to be the type to shop a lot in real life."
Ada had seen the true person beneath Madeline Rose’s persona, so she didn’t believe that Madeline was THAT shallow.
"I need them for special occasions. Let’s go. We don’t have much time." Madeline hurried. She was trying to hide her excitement, as she was over the moon right now.
Madeline sat in the backseat as the car drove through the busy Los Angeles street. She put her hand on her chest, feeling the accelerating heartbeat.
’Oh God, what do I keep thinking about? It’s just a kiss. I kissed Jon many times before. What’s the difference? I had the same feeling when I kissed that bastard when we were dating,’ Madeline thought as she tried to trivialize her kiss with Lance just now.
But then she remembered that her kiss with Jon was out of love. She was madly in love with Jon, so her kiss was far from trivial.
’Wait, scrap that! My kiss with Lance and my kiss with Jon are different! DIFFERENT!’
