Chapter 25: Chapter 25

Madeline tried to distract her aching heart after the fight with Nathan by checking everything she bought randomly when she was on a shopping spree on Rodeo Drive.

She wondered if she was being too tacky since she knew that most people brought up from generational wealth usually wouldn’t want to look like a walking ad.

The old money usually preferred to buy things without the brand name plastered all over the product. Meanwhile, the new money preferred to expose their wealth to everyone as they earned it rather than inheriting it.

Honestly, Madeline really had no preference for this. She grew up in a middle-income household, and even when she was at her peak after the success of her movie, she still had no control over her money, so she was still the same girl who liked to buy clothes based on quality and how cheap they were.

If a dress from H&M or Zara was good enough, then so be it. She wouldn’t spend more on a dress she probably wouldn’t wear twice in a year.

So she had no preference for old or new money because she had NO money!

"Would Lance’s family get an ick from me if I wear this walking advertisement of a dress in their family gathering?" Madeline wondered as she checked the dress with the LV logo embossed in the middle like Superman.

After all, she had to present herself as Lance’s girlfriend and look a certain way.

’Or, maybe I don’t need to worry about what they will think. Lance hired me because I’m infamous and controversial, so I’m sure he wants to piss his family off with my presence,’ Madeline connected the dots together easily. She wasn’t dumb, and she was sure that Lance wasn’t dumb either.

She still had no idea what he wanted to do, but if he wanted her to annoy the hell out of his family, then she was the best at it.

Madeline grinned as she finally tossed the idea of shame. "Oh, whatever, I will just wear this walking advertisement of a dress. I’m sure Lance will approve of my tacky behavior."

As Madeline was busy with her dress, she suddenly got a call from Lance Grant.

She picked it up while checking the Mini Saddle Bag she bought;

"Yes, Lance?"

"Go to my office tomorrow morning. You’re going to meet with the Producer of the newest reality show I just invested in," Lance informed straight to the point. "You’ll be on that show with other contestants."

"Reality show?" Madeline hummed for a moment. She had a few guesses since Lance mentioned ’other contestants,’ so it was probably a talent show of some sort. But she wanted the details. "What kind?"

"It’s called Summer Heat Lovers," Lance said. "You’ll be put in a resort with seven other contestants, and you will be competing for a million-dollar cash prize."

"One million dollars?!"

"Yeah, but the money isn’t important. It’s just a million dollars," Lance said lightly. "It will be a good way to put you in the spotlight with all the interactions you will get during the show."

Madeline wanted to say that a million dollars in cash would change her life because she would have her burden halved by using all that to pay for her father’s debt.

But she knew that wasn’t important for Lance to know, so she let it slide.

"What kind of reality show is it, though? What will we do in that resort?" Madeline asked for more details.

"It’s better for you to come tomorrow. Your bodyguard will pick you up at eight, so be prepared," Lance said. "And this time, wear the usual thick makeup and an outfit similar to what you wore on Rodeo Drive. I will tell the Producer about your situation."

"Got it. See you tomorrow, Lance."

Beep.

Madeline had mixed feelings of excitement and nervousness after the call.

After disappearing for four years, she could finally restart her career.

Though it was far from ideal because she was once a movie actress, not a reality show contestant, it was better than doing mindless interviews so she could maintain any relevance.

’I will try to win this reality show. I need to maintain my popularity and infamy no matter what,’ Madeline told herself as she got determined. ’Even if it’ll make me even more hated by the people.’

**

Madeline got up early in the morning and took a shower before killing herself in the mirror.

She wore the same low-rise jeans as Lance had requested, but replaced the crop top with a black lace corset.

She felt a lot more confident and comfortable wearing such a racy outfit with her doll-like makeup because, once again, she was playing as the shameless slut, Madeline Rose.

And as an actress, she changed everything about herself the moment she got into the character. From her expression, her gait, and her strut, everything was different from her real self.

Madeline saw Nathan getting ready for school. She wanted to say something, but when Nathan saw the way she dressed, he got pissed instantly.

He left the house without even saying bye, much to Madeline’s sadness.

"It can’t be helped," Madeline murmured, as it was the only thing she could do about Nathan’s situation.

She wore her heels and waited on the terrace for a moment until she saw that the Rolls Royce Ghost stopped in front of her house.

"Good morning, Miss," Ada said as the door automatically opened for her to enter the car.

"Morning, Ada. Let’s go to the office. Mr. Grant wants to have a talk with me," Madeline said.

"I assume it’ll be a good talk, right?"

"Yeah, you can say that." Madeline chuckled. "You’re right, Ada. I shouldn’t be worried about my spending. He told me to do more."

"Obviously! You’re his future wife! Of course, he will tell you that!" Ada said. "Now, let’s go and meet him. I’m sure he will love to see this outfit of yours in person, Miss."
