She Becomes A Hot Sensation After A Scandalous Affair -
Chapter 247: Wedding Day
Chapter 247: Chapter 247: Wedding Day
Madeline peeked from the window as she watched the guests enter the flower garden at Glassmist Castle. She saw plenty of familiar faces, along with some she didn’t know as well.
Lance had insisted they invite the nobles, even though most weren’t active in their roles. They just had the title and became friends because they had similar upbringings.
’I hope my guests aren’t too intimidated by them,’ Madeline thought. ’Lance and I have completely different social backgrounds.’
"Maddy, don’t stand there! Some of the guests might have seen you!"
Chloe’s energetic voice startled Madeline. She turned her head and saw the plump lady wearing a purple dress according to the dress code.
Chloe looked gorgeous in it, especially when she gently swayed the feather fan to fight the summer heat in the castle.
Madeline smiled at her friend, "Sorry, I got curious about the guests."
"Geez, it wouldn’t be a surprise for everyone if they saw you from the window," Chloe scolded, but Madeline didn’t get offended by it. She simply chuckled because she knew Chloe was just looking out for her.
Madeline stepped away from the window, and Chloe helped by covering the window with the curtain.
"So, when can I go out?" Madeline asked. "I’ve done my makeup. The dress is all nice and stunning, and the hair is done perfectly."
Madeline listed all the things she did in the morning. She woke up literally before dawn to prepare for her wedding with the help of many professionals.
Meanwhile, Lance snored the whole time and finally woke up at seven.
She felt a little envious of his relaxed morning routine. Lance only took thirty minutes to get ready, half of which he spent in the bathroom.
"You still have one thing left," Chloe said. She pointed at Madeline’s neck and her ears. "Jewelry."
"Oh—"Madeline said, glancing at her reflection in the tall mirror. She realized she hadn’t put on any jewelry. She hadn’t noticed it before because she was the type who rarely wears anything expensive when not working.
Because to her, those expensive diamonds were meant to be shown to people so others could marvel at the wearer, Madeline, a simple woman in real life. So she was a little uncomfortable wearing them.
"Do I need to wear a lot of diamonds?" Madeline asked Chloe. "I feel like if I wear too much, it’d be too tacky."
"Hmm, I honestly think that you’ll look better with many diamonds because you are gorgeous by nature. But Lance already told me and Kate that you’re not a fan of it."
"Mm, I’m not really a fan of wearing too many diamonds. It’s a little embarrassing for me when I’m not playing a character," Madeline replied sheepishly.
"You only need to wear one necklace and earrings, that’s all."
Madeline and Chloe turned their heads towards the door at the same time and saw Kate in her wheelchair, carrying a jewelry box, while Lily stood behind her, pushing the wheelchair into the room.
Kate looked healthier than the first time Madeline met her. Her recovery was a success, and though she was permanently bound to that wheelchair, at least she wasn’t miserable.
On top of that, she had even started growing her hair again, just like Madeline’s mother.
"Though Lance told me not to give you any jewelry during the wedding, I can’t help myself," Kate sighed. "You’re beautiful, Madeline. I’m sure people have already said that many times. You don’t need these diamonds to look stunning. But you will be my daughter-in-law, so I think it’s only right for me to give you some of my collection."
"Y—You don’t need to do that for me," Madeline tried to refuse because she knew Kate’s jewelry must be extremely expensive. Even though she was about to get married to Lance, she still couldn’t fathom wearing something that was so valuable out of fear of breaking it.
"It’s fine. I can’t wear all of them anyway. Think of this as a gift from your mother-in-law, okay?" Kate said before she opened the jewelry box. "You should pick two or more if you want to."
Madeline stared at many expensive pieces of jewelry that shone brightly, each with obvious historical value.
She gulped, thinking it was too much for her. She wanted to refuse it, but seeing Kate’s hopeful gaze made her weak. Finally, she took a good look at everything in the box and chose one necklace.
It was a necklace with a ruby shaped like a flower, which was a perfect companion for her rose-like diamond wedding ring.
"Don’t forget the earrings. You can’t just go without earrings, right?" Kate suggested.
Madeline stared at her options for a while before picking a pair of teardrop-shaped ruby earrings.
"I will take these. Thank you, Kate..."
"Oh, don’t thank me just yet. I want to see it on you first," Kate said. She looked over her shoulder and asked, "Lily, can you help your sister-in-law?"
"Sure~," Lily had been holding her excitement the whole time. She helped Madeline wear the necklace and earrings.
"Okay, all done," Lily said as she returned to her mother’s side. "You look gorgeous, Madeline. Don’t you think so, Mom? Aunt Chloe?"
"Yep, she looks ab-so-lute-ly stunning! That ruby really makes the whole dress pop even more!" Chloe praised her to the moon and back. "You have a great eye for jewelry, Madeline. I think you shouldn’t hold back on it. Just tell Lance everything that you want. I’m sure he’ll be more than happy to give it to you."
"I think so too," Kate nodded. "Those pieces you picked are some of my favorites. You and I have similar tastes, Madeline."
Madeline was shocked when she heard this and said, "T—Then, since it’s your favorite, it’s not right for me to take them. Let me give them back to you."
"No returns," Kate chuckled. "Don’t worry about it. I’m actually glad that my daughter-in-law is wearing my favorite pieces."
