Chapter 244: Chapter 244

Everyone clapped once Olga finished her speech.

Olga stared at the crowd of big stars in front of her. Never in a million years had she ever dreamed of being the center of attention and receiving an Oscar.

There was a time when she was filled with hatred, thinking she would never have a chance to shine and be well-liked by everyone.

But now, as she locked eyes with Madeline, who was also clapping for her, gratitude flooded her heart. ’You gave me a chance, Madeline. I’m forever grateful for your help.’

Returning to her table, Olga handed the trophy to Madeline, and said, "I think you should have this, Miss."

"An Oscar trophy?" Madeline raised her brow in surprise.

"Yes, since you’ve given me everything, this is the least I could do."

Chuckling softly, Madeline replied, "You don’t need to worry about that. I already have one for the same category for my role in The Last Spring. This belongs to you, and you’ve earned it."

Olga clenched the trophy and nodded, "I’ll be by your side no matter what, Miss."

Madeline didn’t pay too much attention to Olga’s statement just now, so she just nodded absentmindedly before her focus returned to the stage.

Two senior actresses came onto the stage, holding an envelope containing the winner of the best actor category.

"Do you think you’ll win?" Lance asked his little brother. "This is your very first acting debut, and you did it out of boredom, so don’t fret if you lose, okay?"

"Eh, it doesn’t matter to me. It’s not like I will do this for the rest of my life, right?" George shrugged, seemingly unfazed by the idea of winning or losing this category.

"Hmph, I shouldn’t have picked you to play me," Lance snorted. But he was actually the one who got nervous, silently hoping that his little brother would win.

After all, he knew George had spent a lot of time preparing for the role. He often asked Lance many things about himself so he could get into character because, other than their face, they didn’t have anything in common.

"And the Oscar goes to..." The two senior actresses opened the envelope and announced at the same time, "George Grant from the movie Hot Sensation!"

George smirked as he glanced at his big brother. "Are you relieved that I won?"

"I don’t give a damn," Lance said. "Now go and take that Oscar."

"Alright, but don’t expect a heartfelt speech from me," George said before heading to the stage to accept the award.

"Geez, why don’t you just admit it, Lance? I know you’re worried about George," Madeline giggled.

Lance’s cheeks reddened. "I’m not worried about him. I’m glad he doesn’t bring shame to my name."

George thanked the senior actresses while accepting the award. He looked at the shiny trophy and said to the audience, "Well, thank you for this award. As you know, I’m just a part-time actor. I did this movie because I know my brother, Lancelot Grant, needs help to find someone who could play him. So here I am."

"I present this award to Madeline Rose. She’s truly the woman who changed my brother’s life," George said while staring at Madeline. "She made our cold castle warm again and gave me hope."

"I hope I will find a woman as good as her for myself in the near future."

The crowd laughed when they heard George’s indirect confession. Lance clicked his tongue, but he was actually happy because that meant even George admitted how gorgeous Madeline was.

George returned to his table and placed the trophy on it. "Look at this, Lance. Maybe I should change my career path and become an actor instead."

"You can do whatever as long as it doesn’t give me a headache," Lance said, looking genuinely proud of George’s achievement.

The atmosphere was harmonious at their table, but one person looked gloomy all the time, and that man sat between George and Olga.

Zane’s eyes were glued on Madeline the whole time. He only shifted his gaze whenever Lance gave him a silent warning, but he couldn’t shake this forlorn feeling in his heart.

The next category was none other than the best supporting actor.

Two young actresses came to the stage with an envelope and started announcing all the nominees for this category.

Zane was among the nominees, and no one found it surprising. He had been a regular at the Academy Awards for the past five years, winning an award each year without fail.

As expected, when the two actresses opened the envelope, they looked at each other and shrugged. They smilingly announced, "And the Oscar goes to Zane Eastwood from Hot Sensation!"

The audience clapped for Zane, but he felt empty because Madeline didn’t clap for him.

He didn’t care about everyone’s opinion about him. He just wanted Madeline to look at him and give him that sweet smile once more.

He waited at least fifteen seconds before getting up from his seat and walking to the stage.

"I’m glad you didn’t clap for him," Lance said. "I get in a bad mood whenever I think about that bastard who almost trapped you into his scheme."

"I did want to congratulate him , of course. But I know that you’d be mad," Madeline sighed. "And I value your feelings more than anyone else’s in this world, including Zane’s."

"Maddy..."

Zane watched Lance and Madeline look so harmonious from the stage. He clenched the trophy in his hand.

He didn’t prepare any speech, but as he saw Madeline and Lance together, his mind began to brew a spontaneous speech.

"As you can see, I am here receiving yet another award for my performance this year, but I am far from being happy," Zane said as he fixed his gaze on Madeline. He didn’t even try to hide it as he knew it might be the last time they could stare at each other like this because he had just heard a rumor that Madeline wanted to retire from the entertainment circle after this movie was released.
