She Becomes A Hot Sensation After A Scandalous Affair -
Chapter 239
Chapter 239: Chapter 239
The car stopped on Rodeo Drive, and Madeline stepped out of the car in front of a cafe while Ada searched for a place to park the car.
Madeline saw Jasmin drinking a cup of bubble tea inside the cafe, so she walked in and hugged her from behind, exclaiming, "Girlfriend!!"
"Oh! You startled me, Maddy," Jasmin chuckled as she patted Madeline’s arm. "It’s been a while since our last meet-up, hasn’t it?"
"Mhm, I think it’s been about two months," Madeline guessed. She sat next to Jasmin and said, "I’ve been so busy filming Hot Sensation. Sorry, Jasmin."
"Nah, it’s fine," Jasmin sipped her bubble tea, updating Madeline on her life so far. "I’m also currently working on my new music."
"Oh, I remember your latest single was a massive hit, right?" Madeline recalled that she also promoted that single on her Instagram, and it blew up instantly.
Jasmin made great music and with Madeline’s promotion, its success was guaranteed.
"Girl! It’s charting. It’s currently number five on the Billboard Hot 100!" Jasmin said proudly. "I won’t be able to do it without you, Maddy. Your promotion really made a big difference."
"Oh, don’t sell yourself short. We both know it’ll do well whether I promote it or not," Madeline said modestly. "But you should inform me when the album is released, alright? I can feature some songs in my new movie since it needs a good soundtrack."
"And I’ll continue to promote you, as always," Madeline added.
Jasmin sighed. She stirred the bubble tea with the straw while staring at her best friend. "Sometimes, I feel like I haven’t done much to get so much help from you. I want to help you too, but it seems like you’re doing just fine on your own."
"Friendship isn’t a business or a trade, Jasmin," Madeline said. "I like to help you because you’re my best friend, and I’m sure you’d do the same for me."
Jasmin nodded. "Of course, I’d help you with anything you need."
"See? That’s just how friendship works," Madeline smiled. "And speaking of help, I might need your help soon."
"Oh! What is it?" Jasmin asked excitedly. "Do you need me to perform somewhere? Or maybe be a part of your movie cast? I think I could do well as an extra."
Madeline waved off the suggestions. "No, nothing like that. I have something much more important than all of those."
"Then what is it?" Jasmin asked eagerly.
Madeline grabbed Jasmin’s wrist. "If you’re curious, come with me. I’ll show you what I’ve been thinking these days."
*
Jasmin walked with Madeline through Rodeo Drive, wondering what kind of help Madeline needed.
Madeline stopped in front of a luxury diamond jewelry store and entered without hesitation.
"W—Wait, are you here to buy a diamond?" Jasmin questioned, trailing behind her friend.
Madeline glanced back with a mischievous grin. "Well, I do need one for a certain occasion."
Jasmin’s jaw nearly dropped on the floor when she heard it.
Marriage?
Did that mean Madeline already had plans to marry Lance?
Jasmin got excited thinking about it. She squealed out of joy and said, "Oh my goodness! So, you want me to be a bridesmaid or something?"
"Spot on," Madeline confirmed with a chuckle. She sat on a chair, waiting for the clerk’s assistance. "That’s why I’m here. I want to see if there’s a good diamond set for my wedding."
Jasmin sat beside Madeline, unsure if she heard it right. "Wait, did he propose already? I feel like I’ve missed out a lot."
"Nope, not yet," Madeline replied.
"Then why are we here?"
"Because I want to be the one who proposes," Madeline said.
Again, Jasmin’s jaw dropped on the floor with that statement. "Y—You want to propose to Lancelot Grant?"
"I don’t know when he will propose—if ever," Madeline said. "So, I guess I’ll propose first."
"But he’s the man. Won’t he feel embarrassed if you proposed first?"
"Well, if he does, then he’d propose to me earlier. But honestly, I’m not too concerned about that." Madeline shrugged. "Are you worried that he might not accept my proposal?"
Jasmin nodded reluctantly.
"I’m just scared that you might get rejected by him," Jasmin said.
"Then I guess we’re not meant to be together," Madeline said, though there was a trace of worry in her voice.
"When do you plan to propose then?" Jasmin asked.
"I’ll think about it after the filming is finished. Maybe a year from now? I’ll check on the rings for now, just in case I need one custom-made. So keep this a secret for now, okay?" Madeline winked as she began talking with the store clerk.
Jasmin was very worried about her best friend because Madeline had this do-or-die personality.
She would do something risky and wouldn’t think twice about the consequences.
But Jasmin couldn’t do anything to stop Madeline from doing what she wanted.
’Should I just tell Lance about it? If he’s sensible enough, he’d propose earlier, right?’ Jasmin pondered. ’But Madeline told me to keep it a secret. What if Lance confronted Madeline right after I told him?’
’Ugh, I’m getting a headache thinking about this,’ Jasmin complained.
But in the end, she knew this was for her best friend’s greater good, so she had already concocted a plan in mind.
Madeline and Jasmin were separated after spending another two hours having a girl’s day out, and once Madeline was out of sight, she quickly called Lance, the call was connected soon after.
—
"Is Madeline with you, Jasmin?" Lance asked as soon as the call was connected.
"We just got separated. She said she’s going home now," Jasmin replied. "Wait, I’m here to tell you something serious."
"Something serious?" Lance’s expression turned grim instantly. "Did she get attacked by her anti-fan? Or did a creepy man stalk her?"
"Oh, this is far worse!"
"FAR WORSE?!" Lance jumped from his seat, ready to go to Rodeo Drive. "What happened? Did she get kidnapped?! Fuck, I should’ve sent at least ten more bodyguards around her!"
"W—Wait, it’s not that kind of ’worse.’ Calm down," Jasmin said to defuse the situation.
Lance let out a relieved sigh. "You scared me to death, Jasmin. Then what happened? Did the card get declined? Wait, it’s a black card. It shouldn’t be declined no matter the amount."
Jasmin took a deep breath as she was about to drop the bomb. "Madeline asked me to accompany her to a luxury jewelry store."
"And?" Lance waited. "Isn’t it normal?"
"If she wants to buy something like a necklace or brooch, yes. But not this one," Jasmin paused momentarily and added, "She talked with the clerk and planned to order a custom-made pair of rings."
"Pair of rings?" It took a while for Lance to register what Madeline had planned, and once he realized it, his eyes widened. "Wait, don’t tell me that she is—"
"Yes," Jasmin confirmed. "She told me that she wants to propose because she wants to get married."
...
Lance was silenced because this was so out of the blue.
"That’s why I got so worried; I’m afraid you’re not ready for such a commitment. I don’t want her heart to get broken because of this," Jasmin confessed. "So what do you think? Do you plan to accept her proposal?"
...
"No," Lance replied.
Jasmin’s heart almost jumped from her chest. "W—What do you mean? Do you hear yourself, Lancelot Grant? I thought you loved her!"
"I do love her," Lance said seriously. "But she shouldn’t propose because that’s my job! I’ll be so fucking ashamed if she proposes first!"
"Oh, thank god. I was scared that you fell out of love for her," Jasmin sighed. "Well, what are you waiting for? Go and propose! She told me that she has been wanting to get married for a while."
"I’ve always asked her if she’s ready for something more serious, but she always said no because she still has a career in showbiz," Lance said.
"Okay, that’s very Madeline," Jasmin commented. "But I guess, now that you’ve given her the security she needs, she’s ready to commit."
"Did she tell you the exact date when she wants to propose?"
"She didn’t give me a clear answer, but she mentioned that she’d probably propose next year. Also this custom-made diamond ring will take a while to commission since there’s a queue."
"That’s good enough. I have the right time and place to propose. The whole world will know about it," Lance said. "And keep this a secret, Jasmin. We shouldn’t let her know about this."
"Got it, you have my word," Jasmin assured. "And don’t tell Madeline that I reported everything to you. She’ll go nuclear on me."
"Sure, let’s keep this our secret so we can prepare a surprise for Madeline."
Beep.
—
Lance hung up the call, and he got excited yet nervous.
He was nervous that Madeline would find his proposal to be lame. He was also worried that Madeline would suddenly propose first when everything wasn’t ready.
’No, calm down, Lance. Madeline wouldn’t pull that kind of surprise. All you need to do is to prepare everything, so she will be happy when proposed to!’
Thus, with the newfound determination in his heart, he decided to call a few people.
