Chapter 228: Chapter 228

The aftermath of Madeline Rose’s Scandalous Night fashion show was huge on the internet, and it was trending for the whole month, overshadowing any other topic because everyone kept talking about two things.

1. Angelica Currie and Jonathan Hale were caught planning to drug Madeline Rose and rape her.

2. Madeline Rose’s breathtaking beauty on the runway.

Though many people hated Madeline for her guts, no one could deny that Madeline Rose was truly a unique beauty. Had it not been for her scandals, she could have risen to iconic status for at least a decade.

Though, at this point, Madeline didn’t seem to care much about her career. She was in a loving relationship with Lancelot Grant, the second son of the wealthy Grant family. Whether her career took off or not, it wouldn’t change the fact that she would spend the rest of her life in luxury and probably marry the son of a billionaire soon.

But things weren’t looking so good for Angel and Jon.

After the horrible thing that happened to them in the fashion show, they faced justice differently.

Theodore broke off the engagement immediately, and she was never heard from again. Rumor had it that she was shipped somewhere in Southeast Asia.

As for Jon...

Madeline read the news flash, and it was about Jon.

-

Jonathan Hale retires from the entertainment industry, saying the fashion show disaster is not the cause.

-

Madeline chuckled while reading it. "It’s so funny to see him trying to do damage control."

"Can it really be called damage control, though?" Lance disagreed while his eyes were still busy with the document. "No matter what he does, he will never get his career back because he has been branded as a cheater and rapist. His career is done for."

"Well, he still has some blind fans who are willing to defend him no matter what, even if the evidence is right in front of them," Madeline said.

"Just ignore those people. They are either fanatic fans of his or fanatic haters of yours. This is just the same case with that bastard Zane Eastwood. Some of his crazy fans still think that you are the one who seduced him."

Lance scoffed, and Madeline saw that his mood soured in only a split second.

Madeline sighed, "You need to stop bringing up about him. He doesn’t try to contact me anymore. Why don’t we focus on something more important, such as—"

Madeline walked up towards Lance at the CEO’s desk. She snatched the document from Lance’s hand and smirked as she read it: "—making good use of this money your brother gave us."

Lance had just gotten a huge investment from Theodore. The amount far exceeded the company’s current net worth, which was quite hefty.

"He must’ve used the company’s money, not his own," Lance said. "Because what he sent us is a quarter of my current net worth, and I made a lot of money through investments."

"Well, that means your big brother entrusts us with doing something grand with this money," Madeline commented. "So what do you have in mind?"

"I’m thinking about reinvesting it instead," Lance said calmly. "I have a lot of experience as an investor. I learned from my father, who also made half of his fortune in the same way."

Lance studied Madeline’s expression, and it was obvious that Madeline didn’t agree with his plan.

"What do you have in mind then?" he asked.

"I’d say yes to anything you say since you’re the boss," Madeline murmured while staring at the number. "But I feel like, if you do that, you’d change this company from entertainment to banking."

...

"You’re right," Lance said. "I have to be honest with you, Maddy. I’m more of a banker than an entertainment industry CEO. I’m staying because my parents want me to care for this company, and so I did despite my inexperience."

"You’re just inexperienced but not untalented," Madeline said as she put her document on the desk. "If you want to know my opinion, why don’t we use the money to make a movie? It has been a while since Empress Entertainment produced another movie, right?"

"Right..." Lance nodded, but he couldn’t hide the crease on his brows. "But that’d take a while. We need to research for a good movie that can appeal to the masses and instantly become a box office success."

"Why do you need to research when the story is in front of you?" Madeline raised her brow provocatively. "I can be the source of inspiration for the new movie, right?"

"You mean..."

"Yes, let’s make a ’based on true story’ movie about me and my scandal. I’m currently all over the news. It’s better for us to capitalize on it as soon as possible before the buzz goes down, right?"

What Madeline said made sense, but Lance couldn’t agree with it for some reason because he didn’t want everyone to see Madeline in her weakest state. She was already suffering enough. She didn’t need even more pressure.

"And before you say anything. I’m doing this purely from a business standpoint. It’d be stupid not to capitalize on my current infamy," Madeline added, putting more pressure on Lance to say yes.

Again, what Madeline said made total sense.

He was also a banker, investor, and businessman himself, so he knew how profitable it would be to use Madeline’s infamy to reap a huge profit.

If the movie about Madeline becomes a huge box office success, then Empress Entertainment would return to its former glory, and he could finally face his parents proudly because he had successfully taken control of the family’s business on top of improving it from its current dwindling state.

Lance was in deep thought for a while, and Madeline got impatient, knowing that Lance would probably refuse to make a movie out of her because it was too personal.

So she insisted, "This is also to clear up my name, Lance. Maybe if people see the scandal from my perspective, they will finally understand what I went through."
