Chapter 208: Chapter 208

"Oh really? Haha..." Angel laughed dryly. She never liked this bitch in the first place. Chloe had always been outspoken about everything and would stick with Kate most of the time.

Chloe acted like they were close friends, but Angel doubted someone could be genuine with super rich people like Kate and Henry.

She even believed that none of their sons were genuine to them. After all, if Angel was in the boys’ or even Lily’s position, she wouldn’t be able to wait. She’d kill Kate and Henry with her own hands to quickly inherit all the money they had.

Unfortunately, she couldn’t speak her mind because Theodore would get angry. So she could only sneer back at Chloe in a desperate attempt to fight back, "You can speak all you want, but we know you’re just a freeloader in this castle. You lived here because you can’t afford this fancy castle, right?"

"Vernon and I have been talking about him acquiring this castle. If we’re talking about money, he has it," Henry suddenly defended his family. "Right, Vernon?"

"Right," Vernon nodded. "But you know we can’t talk about the price for a historical monument, especially when it has so many memories of our big family. So you better know your place, Angel. I only let you around because of my nephew."

Angel was on the verge of tears, feeling that everyone was against her as if they couldn’t wait to kick her out of this family.

She turned towards Theodore, hoping he’d say something, so they could at least get the last laugh before leaving the goddamn gathering!

But contrary to her expectation, Theodore enjoyed his dessert while drinking a glass of wine. He glanced at her once and then ignored her completely.

"Theo, say something to your family! They are all bullying me!"

Theodore clicked his tongue. "For god’s sake, Angel. You’re in your fifties. Why are you acting like a little girl?"

"THEO!"

"Seems like he’s not so fond of you anymore. Thank goodness," Chloe chuckled, and then the rest of the family joined in, ridiculing her.

Angel felt dissociative with all the laughs around her. She had never been this vulnerable and thought she could stay powerful as long as Theodore was on her side.

She stared at Theodore again, silently pleading with him to say something.

But he only said, "You can go back to your room. I don’t want the mood in this family gathering to get ruined."

That was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Angel finally got up from her seat and walked away from the ballroom, much to everyone’s glee.

"Have you finally woken up from your slumber, my son?" Katherine asked calmly. Yet, Theodore felt the stab deep in his heart.

Obviously, his mother and the rest of his family hated Angel. Usually, he would fight for her, believing that as long as he kept defending her, then his family would eventually accept Angel.

He thought it was just his family being very closed off, but his expectations were shattered today when Madeline got along with everyone in his family on her first day.

She even got the blessing from his father—Henry Grant, which Angel would never get.

Theodore looked at Madeline, who became the source of attention for everyone, and he had to admit that Madeline was truly an ideal match for him, Lance, and George.

Too bad, Madeline was already in love with Lance, and Theodore wasn’t cruel enough to compete with his little brother for a woman.

So he could only admire her from afar, thinking of a way to find someone like Madeline—someone young, attractive, bold, and who could effortlessly get along with his family just fine.

’Heh, I think I’d end up dying alone if I had to find someone like her,’ Theodore thought wryly, keeping his musings to himself.

Meanwhile, everyone didn’t know what Theodore was thinking because he said nothing after that.

However, they were still glad he didn’t fully take Angel’s side. It was a positive development, and Henry finally had something to say to his first son.

"I can always introduce you to one of my friends’ daughters," Henry suggested.

"Not interested," Theodore curtly refused, quickly ending the conversation and shutting down everyone for the rest of the family dinner.

Once the dinner was over, everyone returned to their room, and the first thing Lance asked once they were in his old room was:

"Is this your plan?"

"Yes," Madeline confirmed as she sat on Lance’s bed. She looked around Lance’s bedroom and raised her brow. "Your bedroom is very...’manly’. Lots of sports trinkets, old video game consoles, and pictures of you as a high school quarterback."

"Madeline, do you know what kind of danger you just put yourself in? That old witch will try to harm you!" Lance tried to focus on the topic, but Madeline seemed unfazed about it.

In fact, she ignored him and chose to continue looking around her.

Lance held his breath when Madeline grabbed a small picture of him as a baby from the drawer.

"Oh my, you look so cute as a baby!" Madeline commented as she showed Lance the picture. "Your family line seems to have a dominant gene. Does that mean our baby will look exactly like you?’

"I hope not," Lance said.

"Why not?" Madeline raised her brow. "Look at this blond baby with green eyes. You looked like an angel!"

Lance scoffed. "It’s boring. Everyone in my family except for Lily has the same features. I like a brown-eyed brunette, so I hope our children will take after you instead."

"Aww, that’s so sweet. I always thought my real features weren’t beautiful." Madeline sighed.

"Who said that? You are the prettiest!" Lance insisted. But then he realized the conversation had derailed. "Wait, we need to talk about what you’re planning with Lily! What in the hell just happened at the dinner table?"

Madeline chuckled, "What’s there to talk about? You’ve seen it yourself, right?"
