Chapter 206: Chapter 206

"Indeed, they were very chaotic and mischievous. They were also uncontrollable. No nannies could handle them, not even a male nanny my parents hired. They all gave up because my brothers would work together to kick them away," Lily recounted. "But, they adored me, and in return, I loved them so much. I want nothing but happiness for all of them and for us to stay as a family until death do us all part. But sadly, that seems like too much to ask."

Madeline seemed to realize what Lily was talking about. "Lily..."

"Angel changed my oldest brother. He used to be such a kind man who would listen to his siblings, but not anymore," Lily said. "That’s why I don’t want the same thing to happen to Lance. Theo is a lost cause, but Lance and George aren’t."

"And you—" Lily strode towards Madeline, and the latter froze on the spot, not knowing what to do. Lily poked Madeline’s shoulder with her finger and said, "I know about all of your controversies, including the one that almost put Lance’s company on the brink of bankruptcy. It was a stupid stunt, you know that, right?"

Madeline gulped.

Despite feeling intimidated by Lily, Madeline knew if she backed off now, she wouldn’t be able to defend herself in the future.

So she braced herself and rebuked, "It was a necessary move because both of us were trying to break free from Theodore and Zane Eastwood. It did put Empress Entertainment on the brink of bankruptcy. But it’s recovering now, so I don’t see any reason for you to try to incriminate me."

Lily’s lips thinned. "I know that. I’m not an idiot."

"Then why are you so hostile towards me?"

"Because I can’t trust you," Lily replied. "You and Lance did such a big stunt even though you two have only dated for less than a year. Do you not realize how crazy that sounds?"

"On top of that, you’re extremely gorgeous. I never understood how Theo could fall in love with a hag. But I can fully understand Lance falling in love with you," Lily added. "So I don’t want to take another risk and expose my second brother to another woman who might hurt our family like Theodore. We’ve lost enough."

Lily stepped back and looked away. "I think we’re done here. Please tell my brother I don’t want to talk with you anymore, so I don’t need to act cordial around you."

"I don’t understand you. Both you and I hate Angel to the bone. Shouldn’t we stand on the same side? We can work together to bring her down," Madeline said. "Isn’t it better to have an ally and fix the problem rather than getting all prickly towards every woman your brother meets? What would happen if George found his other half? Will you hate her too?"

Lily was caught off guard by Madeline’s unexpected words. She thought that Madeline would drop the pretense instantly so they could ignore each other, just like she had completely ignored Theodore and Angel right now.

Madeline quickly took the chance to convince Lily, "Lily, I’m not the kindest woman on earth, nor am I a good woman in general. But I love your brother, and I plan to stick around with him and his family."

"So I will help you get rid of the parasite," Madeline said boldly, slowly crumbling Lily’s defense.

She stared at Madeline with doubt. "Are you sure about that? Angel is deep in Theo’s life. She has groomed him since he was only eleven."

Madeline remembered how Theodore reprimanded Angel in Lance’s office and nodded, saying, "I mean, the fact that Theodore personally invited Lance and me to this family gathering proves that her control over your brother is weakening, right?"

"I guess you’re right..." Lily said hesitantly.

Madeline could see Lily as a naive girl in her late teens or early twenties this time. Her eyes were full of distrust, and her nervous fidgeting reminded her so much of Nathan.

Fortunately, Madeline knew how to handle someone like her little brother.

"So, let’s work together to kick her out," Madeline said. "I have a plan, but I need your help."

"What kind of help do you need?" Lily asked cautiously. "I’m telling you that nothing works to wake my brother up. He’s completely infatuated with that ugly hag."

"I know you must’ve had a lot on your mind. So I want you to speak it loudly during the family dinner," Madeline said. "Come closer, let me tell you my plan."

Lily slowly approached Madeline and leaned in, and then Madeline whispered her idea.

Lily’s eyes widened. She stared at Madeline and asked, "Are you sure this will work? I won’t get any repercussions from doing it because everyone in the family except Theodore hates her. But what about you? She will target you, and I know that hag is very cunning and dangerous."

"Oh, I’ve been targeted, for sure. That’s why I want to aggravate her more so her movement will be more predictable. It’s better to know what the enemy will do next."

Lily hesitated momentarily before nodding, "I trust your judgment this time. I will help, but this is not because I want to accept you into my family. I just want that ugly hag to leave as soon as possible."

Madeline smiled. She almost laughed at the way Lily tried to keep a distance between them, which was similar to how Nathan did it.

Had it not for their current situation, she would’ve hugged Lily tight and nuzzled their cheeks together because she was cute.

"Likewise. This is for your family. Well, for our family," Madeline said.

"I—I haven’t accepted you yet..." Lily said. She turned around and opened the playroom door for Madeline. "We need to leave now. The family dinner is about to start. We can’t miss it."

"Yes, we really can’t miss it," Madeline smirked as she followed Lily out of the playroom.
