She Becomes A Hot Sensation After A Scandalous Affair -
Chapter 204
Chapter 204: Chapter 204
Madeline grabbed the door handle and took a deep breath, ready to face Lance and deliver the bad news.
She didn’t know how Lance would handle this, probably with rage and resentment, but this was for the better.
She didn’t want Lance to struggle with money.
For someone like Madeline, who grew up as a regular person, having to work and go through difficult times to make ends meet, she could survive without having that much money.
But Lance was born with it. It was basically in his veins.
To strip away something he was born with would be too much, and she didn’t want him to suffer.
But before she opened the door, Henry suddenly stopped her. "Wait! Don’t open the door just yet."
Madeline jolted.
She looked over her shoulder, staring at Henry Grant, who was considering his choice.
"I cannot trust you, Madeline Rose. But not because of your scandal and controversies. I’ve paid a lot of attention to you, and the reports from my informants told me that you’re very supportive of him so far," Henry said. "But exactly because you have a clean background and seem to love Lance deeply, everything feels suspicious to me."
"Suspicious?"
Henry sighed. "Angel also had a clean background. When Kate and I were too busy developing the Grant estate and fortune, she was my boys’ nanny. We trusted her so much and kept her updated about our sons, but that trust was broken when we realized that she had been grooming Theodore."
"We kicked her out immediately, but the damage had been done. The moment I gave most of my authority to Theodore, he suddenly demanded that we accept Angel again." Henry’s gaze darkened as he got angry, thinking about how his first son dared to go against his own family. "He got engaged with Angel without anyone’s blessing and began to slowly cripple me out of my influence just to make sure I couldn’t do anything against Angel."
"Please understand my concern, Madeline Rose. I know that you and Lance look good together. But I cannot fully trust you, not after Angel," Henry turned around and faced the window as he was about to make another big decision. "But I cannot dwell in the past. So I will allow you to stay with Lance, but I will keep my eyes on you, Madeline Rose. I can’t afford to lose another son."
"I understand, Sir," Madeline nodded firmly. "You can keep your eyes on us. Lance and I will prove that we are worthy of your trust."
"Good. You can go now and join the others in the ballroom."
"Sir, can I ask something?"
"... go on."
Madeline paused for a moment, trying to form a good sentence to deliver her question, "What did you feel when Madam Katherine fell ill, Sir?"
Henry frowned. "Why are you asking this?"
"I... I’m just curious. I’m sorry if I crossed the line, Sir. You don’t need to answer," Madeline backtracked immediately.
"It’s okay, I will give you an answer." Henry stared at the garden from the window as he replied, "When my wife was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor for the first time, I thought my world had crumbled right in front of me. I abandoned everything to stay by her side, including managing the estate and the family businesses. I simply could not function knowing that my wife was suffering from surgeries and countless chemotherapies."
Henry’s heart felt heavy as he recalled such a traumatic period in his life.
"At that time, I thought my life was over, and I’ve been thinking about committing suicide in case my wife died so we could be buried together."
"But life has so many twists and turns. My wife is recovering even though she cannot use her legs anymore due to nerve damage. Nevertheless, I’m forever grateful because I simply cannot live without her." Henry looked over his shoulder, staring at Madeline, who stood near the door. "That’s why I’m so worried about you, Madeline Rose. Lance is the most similar to me, so I know how his mind works."
"Here I am talking to you, not as Master Grant. I’m talking to you as Lance’s father. That boy is very naive when it comes to love. He might have had a lot of sexual adventures with many women in the past. But once he wants to settle, he will never turn back."
"I will keep my promise, Sir. As long as he doesn’t want us to be separated, I will stay by his side no matter what."
Henry finally had a thin smile after a while. "Then go, I give you my blessing, for now."
"Thank you, Sir."
"Oh, one more thing," Henry interrupted. "Don’t call me Sir or Mr. Grant. Just call me Henry or Dad. It’s up to you."
"T—That should be when Lance and I finally get married," Madeline said before she left Henry’s study.
Henry stared at the door before returning his gaze to the garden below. The garden was covered in snow, but he vividly remembered when he proposed to his wife, Kate, in the pavilion, surrounded by a flower garden in the spring.
"I can’t wait for spring to come," Henry murmured.

Lance had been leaning on the wall for a while, anxiously waiting for his beloved to come out of his father’s study.
Once Madeline was out of the study with teary eyes, Lance felt an insurmountable amount of rage.
"Step aside, Madeline. I want to talk with my dad," Lance said coldly.
Madeline closed the door behind her and patted Lance’s chest, "Calm down, I’m crying happy tears. Everything went smoothly."
"Are you sure? My dad is known for being oppressive. Be honest and tell me: Did he intimidate you?"
"No, he didn’t," Madeline replied. She stared at Lance, who looked so angry and threw herself into his embrace.
She also buried her face on his broad chest, which caught him off guard, "W—Why are you hugging me all of a sudden?"
"Nothing much. I’m just happy to meet you in this life."
