Chapter 201: Chapter 201

Madeline was full ear as she genuinely wanted to know more about Lance’s family. After all, Lance was unnecessarily hiding too many things from her, which made her feel lost, just like when she bumped into Katherine and Chloe.

Lance took a deep breath and said, "My father and uncle were jerks in their 20s. They were like me, but perhaps even worse, or at least that’s what my mother used to tell me back then."

"But even a jerk like them has a heart, and once they met with their future wives, they went through many trials and tribulations just to get married."

"They are deeply in love with their wives. That’s why my father got paralyzed by heartbreak when my mother fell ill. He’s too heartbroken to even think about work, so he simply handed everything to his sons," Lance paused for a moment and sighed, "My father knows about Theo, who turns into a megalomaniac after he took control of eighty percent of all the family’s businesses, and also got engaged with his nanny, Angel, without even asking for anyone’s opinion."

"I desperately want to fight for my share, not because I want the money. Empress Entertainment doesn’t give me much, nor do I want to take much. I have a trust fund that is enough to give me a luxurious life for generations to come," Lance explained. "But I want to fight for it because it was given to me by my father, and I don’t want to disappoint him."

Madeline understood Lance’s point of view.

The Empress Entertainment might be running at a loss, but it had sentimental value that he couldn’t just let go of.

"If your father is aware of what Theodore has been doing, then why doesn’t he do anything to stop him?" Madeline asked.

"He tried to, but Angel influenced Theodore, and he threatened my father that he’d ruin the family legacy if my father didn’t give his blessing to them." Lance clenched his fist as he got angry at the thought of Theodore’s actions. His big brother was getting better after seeing Madeline and Lance’s stunt. But he still couldn’t forgive how Theodore suppressed their father, who was grieving over their mother’s illness.

"A lot had happened in our family ever since my mother fell ill, but nothing could’ve prepared us for Angel, who conveniently groomed Theodore and turned him against us, his own family."

Madeline held Lance’s hand to comfort him, "It’s okay. I already promised your mother that I would never try to separate you from your family. I know that family is very important to you, to us."

Lance nodded, "I’m actually relieved that you could connect with my mother and aunt easily. I was getting nervous when Lily told me you were with them."

Lance stopped in front of the door at the end of the long corridor. "And we’re here. My father and uncle are in the study room. Just take a deep breath and relax, alright? They are more or less similar to my mother and aunt."

"Alright, I’m ready," Madeline said, and Lance knocked on the door and then opened it.

Madeline saw two men in their late fifties sitting face to face in their seats. The man with black hair had a six-year-old sitting on his lap, snacking on a jar of cookies.

The other one, who had blond and white hair, was reading a book.

They both looked handsome and strong in their fifties, and Madeline could identify them easily.

The one with black hair and a kid sitting on his lap appeared to be Chloe’s husband, and the kid must be his grandson.

It was even more apparent because Mackenzie, Valerie, and Cedric looked like a mix between Chloe and her husband.

Meanwhile, the one with blond and white hair must’ve been Henry Grant because he basically looked like the older version of Lance.

George mentioned a few times that Lance looked the most similar to their father, and she thought it was just a joke until she met Henry Grant in real life.

George was right. Though all the brothers looked like their father, Lance was almost like a carbon copy.

Henry put his book down and addressed them. "Come on in, we have been waiting for you."

Madeline and Lance drew near the two old men and stood side by side.

"I think we need to introduce ourselves first to the lady, Henry," the black-haired man said while staring at Madeline. Then he took the initiative. "My name is Vernon Phoenix Gray. I think you’ve met with my family, right? I’m the old man for Mackenzie, Valerie, Cedric, and Chloe’s husband."

"Oh, this is my grandson, Colton. Colton, say hi to Uncle Lance," Vernon said. The boy on his lap stretched his arm while holding a half-eaten cookie, then innocently offered;

"Hi, Uncle Lance. Do you want a cookie? You can have mine."

"Not the half-eaten one, but sure," Lance smiled.

"Colton, you should go and find your mom in the ballroom. Grandpa will have a conversation with them."

"Okay!" Colton hopped off Vernon’s lap and left the room while still carrying the jar of cookies.

Madeline looked over her shoulder, a hint of concern in her eyes as she watched the little boy. "Is it really okay to leave him alone? What if he gets lost in the corridor?" She asked in a low voice, out of worry.

Lance chuckled. "It’s fine. Colton grew up here, so he knows his way around."

"So, why don’t you introduce yourself, Miss Rose," Vernon said with a smile.

"R—Right, my name is Madeline Rose. I’m... uhm... I’m working as an actress and helping Lance in his company," Madeline said awkwardly.

"You left the most important part," Lance playfully interjected as he pulled her closer. "You are also my girlfriend. You shouldn’t leave that out."

"I—I’m also Lance’s girlfriend, sir," Madeline added shyly. She glanced at Vernon, who had an amicable smile as if he was interested in seeing what would happen next.

But Henry didn’t smile at all. He kept staring at Madeline with his viper-like eyes, which made her stomach churn out of nervousness.
