Chapter 200: Chapter 200

Chloe and Katherine laughed together while Madeline awkwardly sat in the middle.

Chloe patted Madeline’s arm and said, "But I’m serious. Cedric said that you’re ten times prettier in real life, and he is right. Please think about it, alright."

"And please don’t listen to her. She’s just trying to find someone for her son because Cedric has a bad habit of ignoring all of his dates when he is at work. So he hasn’t been able to keep a girl around for a while," Katherine said.

"Lance is even worse. Do you know how many women he had before he met Madeline?"

"That’s because he’s the most similar to his father," Katherine sighed. "But all of your children are like your husband, for better or worse."

"Ugh, don’t remind me," Chloe groaned, rolling her eyes, and they laughed together.

Their banter was quite confusing for Madeline because, for a moment, she thought Chloe and Katherine were fighting, but they were very harmonious the next second.

"Oh, don’t mind us, that’s how we bicker," Chloe said.

"We, old ladies, have our lives revolving around our children, so we talk about them a lot," Katherine added.

"Mhm, I’m enjoying this. I hope we can do this more often," Madeline said.

"Oh, we sure will spend more time in the future, but I think you need to leave now," Katherine said, glancing at the man standing at the door. "Your man is here."

Madeline turned to the door and saw Lance leaning on the frame while crossing his arms. He had a big smile as he saw his woman with his mother and aunt. "Don’t mind me. I just want to watch you with my mom and aunt."

"Ah, Lance!" Madeline sprung up from the chair, excused herself, and quickly walked towards Lance. "How did you know I was here?"

"My sister told me," Lance replied. He let Madeline wrap her hands around his arm before telling his mother and aunt, "Mom, Aunt Chloe, I want to introduce you to Madeline Rose, my girlfriend and, hopefully, my soon-to-be wife."

"We know," Chloe said. "We’ve been chatting here for a while. I should’ve told the maid to bring tea and snacks for us."

"I wish we could spend more time with her," Kate said, staring at her son. "And with you, too, Welcome back, son."

Lance clenched his fist to keep himself from hugging his mother. He felt awkward and out of place since two years had passed, and it had been a while since his last hug with his mother.

But Madeline noticed Lance trying to hold himself, so she let him go and said, "Go hug your mom. I know you missed her a lot."

Thus, Lance finally let go of his reluctance and hugged Katherine gently, afraid he would hurt his mother if he hugged her too hard.

Lance’s heart was hurting, feeling how thin and frail his mother had become. He truly hated how that brain tumor had taken over his mother’s health, which created a domino effect that turned their family upside down.

"I’m home, Mom..." Lance murmured. "I’m sorry I haven’t been home for two years."

"It’s okay. I know you had a hard life out there," Katherine replied, gently stroking her son’s hair. "Welcome home, son. Please visit me more often. I miss you terribly."

"I will visit more often. I promise," Lance said solemnly before he slowly separated himself. He smiled at his mom and added, "But I’ll always be with Madeline. We’re one bread and butter, letter and stamp, Jack and Jill, so I hope you can accept her."

"Oh, for sure! She’s such a pretty girl, and she’s not my age. Of course, I will accept her!" Katherine said happily.

"Please teach Cedric how to find a good woman. I don’t want him to end up alone or with a woman my age like Angel," Chloe added.

Honestly, it was a relief that everyone in his family hated Angel. The only reason Angel hadn’t been kicked out of this family was because of Theodore.

If Theodore wanted her out, she’d be gone in an instant.

But it was difficult to persuade Theodore because he was too stubborn.

"We should go meet with Dad and Uncle Vernon now. They requested our audience," Lance said as he got up and returned to Madeline’s side. "I will meet you again during family dinner, Mom."

"Alright, now go and meet with your father and uncle. They’re probably busy playing chess or discussing boring things like the company’s stock again," Katherine said.

"Or golf. I don’t know what’s so good about golf, but I guess we shouldn’t stop them from getting healthy," Chloe added.

"Maybe the caddy. I heard golf caddy girls are young and sexy," Katherine giggled. "They are probably into those."

"I’d smack my husband in the head if he dared to flirt with those caddies," Chloe snorted unhappily. But then the two old ladies laughed simultaneously, thinking the idea was so funny and ridiculous.

As Madeline and Lance left the room and walked in the corridor, she commented, "Your mother and aunt seem to have so much faith in their husbands."

"Because they are good men. They love their wives and still do as they age together," Lance replied. He grinned while stealing a glance at Madeline. "We should be like them in the future. I want to grow old with you."

"You can say that once we get married, but not now." Madeline rolled her eyes jokingly. She felt more relaxed after having a chat with Katherine and Chloe. "Also, why did you not tell me that your mom had brain cancer? My mom also has cancer, so it shouldn’t be a secret between us..."

"It’s a bitter memory for me. I don’t want to think about my mom’s illness because it causes the whole family to be in shambles," Lance said, his eyes staring at the long corridor full of longing about the past. "Let me tell you something about my dad."
