"I also know about your mother’s condition. I’m sorry about what happened to her. You can tell me—or my sons—if you need help, alright?"

"I... I have been wanting to ask you something," Madeline finally braced herself as she finally asked, "Lance told me that his mother is sick but never told me specifically about the sickness. I’m sorry, Ma’am, are you..."

Madeline covered her mouth. She tried to hold back her tears, but looking at Katherine made her feel emotional because Kate reminded her so much of her mother.

"I’m sorry, Ma’am, but can I hug you?" Madeline asked boldly as her heart was aching. "You remind me so much of my mom, and I... I can’t help but cry."

"Oh dear, come here, let me hug you," Katherine said as she opened her arms for Madeline.

They hugged briefly before Madeline separated herself slowly and said, "I’m sorry, Ma’am. I’m just too sad knowing that a good person has to suffer like this. I’m also sorry for your family. My family life was ruined the moment my mom got diagnosed with cancer."

"I went through many life and death situations, and this is just one of them, Madeline. So, don’t worry, I will live," Kate said, though she was hiding a lot of pain.

She went through a lot when she was diagnosed with a brain tumor, and the tumor spread rapidly to the point that her possibility of survival was very low.

"I think you’ve heard from Lance that I was very domineering when they were young," Kate said. "My family relied so much on me, so I pushed through all the surgery, chemotherapy, and medication to survive. I can’t leave my husband and children behind, not now, at least."

"I’m on my way to recovery, but not everything can be healed..." Kate said while looking down at her limp legs. "The tumor has been taken out, but the damage is permanent. It ruined some of my nerves, and so I lost my ability to walk."

Madeline bit her lower lip.

Again, Katherine reminded her so much of her mother and how she had to sacrifice something just to survive cancer.

Meanwhile, Chloe had been listening the whole time and frowned when she realized how Katherine tried to trivialize her suffering.

Katherine’s recovery was a miracle that doctors couldn’t predict because they all thought that she wouldn’t be able to survive this advanced brain tumor.

That’s why Chloe had been worrying about her so much, to the point that she asked her husband to stay in Glassmist Castle to accompany Henry and Katherine through a difficult time.

"You don’t need to cry for me. I’m not dead yet," Katherine joked around, but that only made Madeline cry harder because her mother often told her the same thing.

"Besides, I’m glad that Lancelot has found a good woman. I don’t want another case of Angel ruining our family’s harmony," Kate added.

"That shameless woman needs to be put in jail for grooming." Chloe rolled her eyes. "How dare she use the fact that we’re older than our husbands to justify her vile grooming act to Theodore."

"Also, about Lily, please forgive her, alright? Angel truly messed with Theodore’s head, and Lily was close to her brothers. So when Theodore suddenly dated his nanny and snubbed everyone in his family, she got extremely upset," Kate sighed. "Unfortunately, we can’t just kick that woman out. Theodore is taking control over everything, and he doesn’t want to listen to me."

Madeline nodded. She saw a bit of Nathan in Lily.

"I hope so," Chloe sighed. "If you ever think of breaking up with Lance, you can tell me first, alright? Cedric is also interested in you. He inherited my passion for cooking, so he’s a chef now. So you don’t need to worry about eating good food daily."

"That’s not fair, Chloe," Kate grabbed Madeline’s hand jokingly. "All of my sons look and act like their father. Do you know how hard it is for them to find the right woman? I blame Henry for that."
