Chapter 192: Chapter 192

Lance was quite surprised by how easy it was for his big brother to give up. He thought that Theodore would put up a more aggressive fight against him.

So he got confused and asked, "Wait, that’s it? You’re not going to demand anything?"

Theodore chuckled, and to Lance’s surprise, it sounded like a genuine chuckle with no hidden intention behind it.

"Why would I demand anything? You hold seventy percent of this company’s stock now. Even Mom and Dad have no right in Empress Entertainment anymore. It’s all yours," Theodore said with a smile. "Besides, I must admit, I’m quite pleased you can fool me like this. You and that woman are truly a partner in crime."

Lance and Madeline looked at each other, confused by Theodore’s reaction because they expected him to go nuclear at them.

But Theodore’s reaction was quite amicable. He looked more like a family figure who gave his blessing with pride.

Angel was also utterly shocked because of how easily Theodore gave up this company. She pinched his arm and raised her voice. "Theodore! What are you thinking about!? Are you going to give this company to these two scoundrels? They are nothing but parasites who would ruin our family!"

Theodore’s smile disappeared instantly. He gave Angel a side eye and said, "They’ve proven themselves capable. They fooled me, the heir of the Grant family fortune. I see no problem giving them this company. I’m more than willing to see what kind of work my little brother will do to save the company from bankruptcy."

"You’re making a huge mistake! These people are going to eat us from the inside out!" Angel started to get hysterical once she knew Theo didn’t budge. She got scared when everyone’s eyes were on her.

"Why do you keep accusing my brother? I know him better than you ever will, Angel," Theodore said coldly. "Lance is reckless and cunning, but he’s not cruel, especially to his family. So stop speaking nonsense before I get tired of you."

Theodore ignored Angel after that. He looked at Lance and Madeline and said, "See you two at the family’s gathering a month from now. Dad and Mom will be happy knowing that you finally want to settle down, Lance."

"Wait, you give me permission to come?" Lance asked, unsure if he heard it right.

"You’re always allowed. It’s your home, too. It’s just you who refused to come for some reason," Theodore said. "And you’re also invited, Madeline Rose. You’ll be the honorable guest."

"T—Thank you, Sir," Madeline replied sheepishly. She got uncomfortable because she thought she had to put up her bad bitch persona in front of Theodore to fight him.

But this was too abrupt because she didn’t expect him to be reasonable.

"I’ll go back now. Call me if you need any help, brother," Theodore said as he turned around and left, ignoring Angel, who tried to persuade him to fight more.

Lance and Madeline stared at the door with their jaws dropped.

"What just happened?" Madeline asked. "You told me that your big brother is an unreasonable bastard."

"He is... well—was," Lance replied absentmindedly. "He was hellbent to kick me out of this company, so I prepared everything to break free from his clutches. I thought he’d go ballistic on us."

"Maybe he has a sudden change of heart?" Madeline speculated. "He seems to be on our side. He even reprimanded that dying grandma."

"I don’t think a change of heart can happen that fast," Lance mused. "But who knows? Maybe he truly isn’t as bad as I thought."

"So, about that invitation for a family gathering?" Madeline looked up to stare at him. "Will you come?"

"Not just me," Lance replied, locking eyes with her. "We will come together."

"What if it’s a trap..."

"Then we leave immediately. As long as we have each other, there is nothing to worry about, Maddy."

"Theo, you’re making a colossal mistake! A huge one!" Angel yelled as she tried to pull Theodore back to Lance’s office. "You’re going to regret this! I just want the best for you, for us!"

Theodore finally stopped right before he pressed the elevator button. He looked coldly at his fiancee and said, "Stop acting like a child. You’re old enough to be my mother."

Angel gasped, stung by his words. "How dare you say that?! I am your fiance! You’re being disrespectful."

"I can call off our engagement anytime I want, Angel. So don’t assume that you have control over me," Theodore said. "Now shut up before I genuinely reconsider our engagement."

Angel finally stopped yelling once she realized it wasn’t just an empty threat. She followed Theodore from behind in silence until they were in the car.

She then whispered, "You’ve changed, Theodore."

Theodore offered no response, lost in his thoughts.

Indeed, Theodore had changed, but it wasn’t a sudden change of heart.

’Lance, George, and... Lily...’ Theodore closed his eyes, thinking about his siblings.

All he wanted was for them all to unite together through tough times. Ever since their mother was diagnosed with cancer, their family was in shambles because their mother was everyone’s anchor.

He was trying to emulate his mother’s disciplinary tactic to control his family, but for some reason, it backfired on him because none of his younger siblings wanted to have anything to do with him.

Lance openly went against him.

George simply busied himself, ignoring him completely.

Lily refused to talk with him.

Theodore was hurt knowing that he failed to protect his family, and he thought his siblings would eventually obey him after he became the sole heir of Grant’s family fortune.

But Lance and his girlfriend Madeline proved him wrong. They showed him that he was just a fool who underestimated his brother.

To have Lance create such an elaborate plan to break free, Theodore realized he had been too cruel to his little brother.

’Maybe it’s time to be more lenient,’ Theodore thought. ’I don’t know how long it takes for Mom to recover. But the least I can do right now is to make sure we stay together as a family...’
