Chapter 184: Chapter 184

"Please don’t hurt her again, Mr. Grant. Madeline is frail and naive," Diana said while staring at them. "She’s a very loyal woman who would do anything for her man. I know this because she’s my daughter."

Lance could truly feel Diana’s sincerity and seriousness.

"I assure you, Mrs. Rose, I will cherish her. You don’t need to worry," Lance said. "And I’ve pulled a few strings to move you to a better hospital, also with all the best doctors to treat your cancer."

Diana chuckled softly. "Thank you for your offer, but the doctor said that I’m going to recover soon, and then I can finally go to work once I’m discharged."

"Mom, it’s safer for you to recuperate in a better place and with better surveillance, so nobody would harm you while I wasn’t around, like that man..." Madeline said, indirectly mentioning Zane. "It’s also me who asked Lance to do this. So don’t think of it as him trying to appease you. He did it because I requested it."

In reality, Madeline was fabricating the truth.

Lance insisted that Diana be moved to a better hospital with even better security measures while recovering.

But if she said it was Lance’s initiative, her mother would never accept it.

Diana sighed. "I never understood how you could do so much for me, Maddy. After all, my husband was the one who drained your savings through gambling."

Madeline’s throat tightened as she swallowed her saliva. She hadn’t told Lance about her father and never had a plan to because she thought that bastard was as good as dead, probably already dead somewhere after getting chased by debt collectors and the casino mafia.

Lance glanced at Madeline, and his heart turned cold as he realized that Madeline hadn’t told him about her father.

When he first investigated Madeline’s family, he only discovered that she lived alone with her brother. Her parents were nowhere to be seen by the neighbors for years.

So, he simply thought that Madeline wasn’t close to her family and only supported Nathan.

It turned out she had so much burden on her shoulders.

"If this is your decision, I won’t reject it," Diana agreed.

Madeline let out a relieved sigh. She then put up a sweet expression and ignored Lance’s questioning gaze. "Well then, why don’t we celebrate Christmas together? Lance has prepared a small Christmas tree for us, and Nathan and I have prepared a feast for our small family."

Thus, Madeline turned around and cued Lance’s staff, who had been waiting outside, to bring in the small, decorated Christmas tree and also arrange the food on the table.

Diana’s heart was bursting with joy as she celebrated Christmas with her family, enjoying a feast prepared by her children, and was accompanied by Madeline’s boyfriend, who would eventually be her husband.

She had a lot of appetites today, much more so than usual because Madeline said that Nathan cooked almost everything while she only made the pie.

So when she realized that her son was truly talented, she savored her meal with relish, delighted that Nathan finally found his passion just like Madeline.

**

Madeline bid goodbye to her mother after spending an entire day together at the hospital.

Nathan returned to the mansion with Ada, while Lance drove the car alone with Madeline as the passenger princess.

The air around them was stagnant, and Madeline dared not to say a thing because she knew that Lance would eventually ask about her father.

"I didn’t know that your father was a gambling addict," Lance brushed up the topic while he drove around the city. "You should’ve told me that in the first place."

"I didn’t plan to because it’s shameful," Madeline replied. "Besides, he’s probably already dead somewhere in the ditch. He has made too many enemies in his life. It would be a miracle if he’s still alive right now."

"But still... I could’ve helped you earlier..." Lance murmured. "Are you sure you don’t want me to look into his whereabouts? I can avenge you, just like how I did with Bertha."

Madeline was about to refuse until she realized that her father could be a weak point for her. She let that bitch Bertha mess with her because she simply forgot about her after Summer Heat Lover ended, which created a huge mess that involved Zane.

So she had to take preventive measures now.

"Well, if you want to help, can you just help me find him?"

"And kill him?"

"That’s a bit extreme," Madeline chuckled. "Just make sure to keep him in check if he’s still alive, of course. If he just randomly died, then let him be, I don’t give a damn about him anymore."

"Alright," Lance nodded.

He knew it might be hard to track down someone who was on the run, but he’d do anything to ensure Madeline’s safety.

"So, where are we going now?" Madeline asked.

"The mall, for our plan," Lance replied. "Go check Zane’s account. He’s made a new post about you again, and it went viral instantly."

"Really?" Madeline frowned, feeling a knot of dread forming in her stomach. She had been so occupied with her mother the whole day, so she had no time to check her phone.

Once she typed Zane’s account, she saw a written post on his timeline.

-*

Merry Christmas, my beautiful Rose.

Can’t wait to announce to the world about our big day.

-Z. Eastwood

-*

Madeline gasped when she read it.

This was exactly what he had threatened her before.

He had threatened to announce that they would get married soon, and Madeline couldn’t do anything about it because everyone would always rally behind him.

After all, he was THE Zane Eastwood. He was young but already had a status as one of the A-list celebrities in Hollywood.

He hit 100 million followers not long too ago, becoming one of those big shots in the industry.

She was intimidated by the announcement, but Lance held her hand and said, "It’s okay. We can go through this together. We’ve already planned everything, remember? Trust me, Madeline Rose."

Madeline put her phone down and held Lance’s hand, "Yes, I trust you, Lance. Let’s do this."
