Chapter 176: Chapter 176

Madeline and Lance walked out of the car and were greeted by the crew, who ran around preparing for the first day of shooting for Psycho Moth.

Of course, when Madeline and Lance walked side by side into the production set, they stopped doing whatever they were doing and stared at the couple because they weren’t sure if Madeline was supposed to date Mr. Lancelot Grant or Zane Eastwood.

As they entered the production set, they saw Zane talking with the director of this TV show, Director Carter Patton, while pointing at the script, seemingly frustrated by his role as the male lead.

Director Patton ignored him completely, and after getting nagged by Zane nonstop, he finally said, "The company has finalized the script. I cannot change anything."

Zane was frustrated, but when he wanted to protest again, he saw Madeline in the corner of his eye.

So he turned his head and stared at her, who was holding hands with Lance as if they wanted to make a statement in the production set that they were the true couple, not Zane x Madeline.

Zane’s eyes darkened. He shoved the script to Director Patton and walked towards Lance and Madeline.

Madeline got cold feet as Zane was staring down at her with such a malicious gaze.

Zane was obviously angry at their blatant affection during the production, but this was to make a statement so nobody would think that Zane and Madeline were dating for real.

"Look at what we got here, my female lead and..." Zane looked at Lance coldly. "A bastard."

Lance scoffed, "Just like you said, Madeline is your female lead in the TV show, not in real life. So stop acting like you are dating her."

Zane clenched his fists.

He was ready to punch Lance in the face and leave the TV show. He didn’t even care if he had to pay a fine for breaching the contract. Seeing Lance and Madeline looking so harmonious together was enough to set him on fire.

But then realized this was his only chance to be close to Madeline.

They said that longing created fondness, and Zane could vouch for that.

Because he longed for Madeline so much that he grew even more fond of her.

Zane shifted his gaze back at Madeline and said, "You’re disappointing, Madeline Rose."

Madeline clenched Lance’s hand as she stared at Zane’s back. He returned to the director and snatched the script before leaving his private room.

Madeline let out a relieved sigh and told Lance, "I’m glad that he didn’t make a fuss after seeing us together."

"He is still a professional. I give him that," Lance murmured. "But you can’t let your guard down around him. Be careful, Maddy."

"Mhm, will do," Madeline nodded. "You should go back to the office now, Mr. Grant."

"But I want to watch over you..."

"You gave me enough bodyguards for that," Madeline tiptoed, kissing him on the chin. "Remember our plan, Lance. I promise that we will have our happy ending."

Lance clenched his fists, trying his best not to embrace Madeline right now.

He nodded and said, "Ada will guard you with the two other bodyguards. But you can always call me if something happens, okay?"

"Yeah, yeah, don’t be such a worrywart, babe," Madeline chuckled before she pushed Lance out of the production set. "Good luck at work. I’ll cook something for dinner if I have time~."

Lance’s heart skipped a bit when he saw Madeline’s genuine smile at him. He nodded firmly and left, determined to give Madeline a good life.

Madeline walked to Director Patton and said, "Good morning, director. When are we going to start our first scene? I’ve had everything memorized."

"Mm, I heard many good things about you from Director Wang, so I expect you to do better in this TV show, Madeline Rose. You’re the main character, after all," Director Patton said while checking the script. "We will start the first scene in two hours. Go get yourself ready first."

Madeline excused herself and got ready to change her outfit and makeup.

She was supposed to be a young female detective named Windy, who was shoved into handling a very difficult case of identifying the killer who named himself the Psycho Moth.

Meanwhile, she had a handsome boyfriend, Troy, who was always kind and understanding towards her. So, she had to switch between the serious detective and the sweet girlfriend persona.

She passed Zane a few times while getting herself ready, but he ignored her completely as if they weren’t actually co-stars in this TV show.

But Madeline didn’t pay him any attention outside the occasional smile, which Zane responded with a scoff, anyway.

Usually, she would be sad knowing that Zane didn’t want to talk to her. But after what happened in the hospital, she grew completely numb to the point that she didn’t even care about his opinion anymore.

They got ready for the first scene, where Windy and Troy had breakfast together.

"Okay, get to your position!" Director Patton said.

Madeline and Zane took a deep breath simultaneously, telling themselves to be professional, as this was a job they needed to do.

After hearing the cue from the director, Zane and Madeline turned into their character, Troy and Windy.

—Psycho Moth Scene #1—

Windy sat at the small dining table that they bought at IKEA, sipping her morning coffee as she read the autopsy report of the newest victim from Psycho Moth, a serial killer that ran rampant in New York City right now.

"Baby, you should put that iPad down; you need to relax for a second," Troy said as he served his girlfriend a plate of bacon and egg. "Your obsession with that killer is worrying."

Windy sighed. She put the iPad down and glanced at Troy, who seemed to be in a bad mood.

"I’m sorry, Troy. But this is a job I need to finish, no matter what. People are dying out there..." Windy said. "That also reminds me, I can’t go home tonight. I have to investigate the most recent murder."
