Chapter 166: Chapter 166

"And you tried to hide this bruise because you feel guilty for that bastard?" Lance asked. The storm brewing in his heart since dinner time was unbearable. He had been thinking about this matter the whole night, wondering why Madeline would try to hide something from him.

Madeline nodded weakly. "He’s right. He’s so kind to me despite all the mess I caused. I called him only when I needed him, but once the problem had been solved, I simply ignored him." Madeline looked at Lance with eyes glistening with tears. "Lance, I’m not cruel enough to hurt a kind man who has helped me twice."

"Stop calling him kind. He wants you, Madeline," Lance said grimly. "Zane is not some goddamn good samaritan that would help anyone in need. He helped you because he wanted your body and heart as compensation!"

"And what’s with you acting like he’s the only one who can save you? I can help you better than him. I have all the connections and money that he doesn’t have."

"Don’t you get it, Lance? YOU are the one who created the mess in the first place. YOU are the one who pushed me into his arms," Madeline said. "Back in Summer Heat Lovers, I had to ask him for help to avoid lifetime embarrassment. And you can’t help me against Ethan and Bertha’s YouTube video case. Your help would only aggravate the problem."

Lance gritted his teeth.

Madeline always brought up this problem whenever they argued, as if it was a mistake that Lance couldn’t reverse and couldn’t compensate for.

"So, why don’t you just ignore this bruise and act like nothing happened?" Madeline suggested. "Zane already told me he would never come to me anymore unless I asked him to. There’s nothing to worry about."

"Are you fucking kidding me?! You are telling me to just turn a blind eye?!"

"Yes." Madeline nodded firmly. "It’s for the best because I don’t want to hurt someone who helped me. Just let him be, and he won’t bother us anymore, okay? I promise this will be the last time. I won’t stop you if he hurts me again in the future."

Of course, Lance wouldn’t agree on that. By ignoring what Zane did to Madeline, Lance gave himself a slap in the face because he failed to protect his lover and avenge her.

However, Madeline already knew what was on Lance’s mind.

Lance was an open book when he got agitated or stimulated, so she knew he planned a devious scheme to ruin Zane’s life.

Thus, she channeled that anger towards another person instead, because this person definitely deserved the repercussions for what she did.

"Rather than trying to hurt Zane, why don’t you help me punish the true culprit of the mess?"

"And who is that?"

"Bertha Marsh, obviously," Madeline said. "Ethan has gotten his punishment because Zane’s crazy fans mass reported his account to the point that it’s unrecoverable. But Bertha Marsh got off the drama scot-free."

For a moment, Lance thought that Madeline wanted him to get her revenge on Jonathan Hale. After all, that bastard was the one who ruined Madeline’s clean career.

But it seemed that he wasn’t important to Madeline, or maybe she just didn’t want to have anything to do with Jonathan Hale anymore.

It was a relief for Lance because competing against Zane for Madeline’s heart was enough of a headache for him, let alone another man trying to get his beloved woman.

"Fine, I will do what you asked for. But this will be the last time you have contact with Zane, except during filming," Lance said firmly. "And I will sit next to the director while you film the new TV show with Zane after you finish your current one."

Lance felt that Madeline’s request was unreasonable because he couldn’t wait to beat that bastard to death.

But since Madeline didn’t want him to hurt her oh-so-kind Zane Eastwood, the least he could do was strengthen the protection around her. So Zane and his crazy fangirls couldn’t reach her anymore.

Lance sat next to Madeline on the bed. He caressed the bruise on her wrist and asked, "Does it still hurt?"

"Not much. I already dipped it in an ice bowl. It will disappear tomorrow morning." Madeline smiled as she tried to defuse the situation, knowing that Lance must’ve been grieving over such an insignificant thing. "Why don’t we do something fun instead of worrying about my wrist?"

Madeline tried to incite Lance’s lust by slowly stroking his thigh.

It was usually very easy to incite Lance into having sex.

But not today.

He lost all his excitement after knowing that Madeline got hurt, and he couldn’t do anything about it.

"I’m not in the mood, babe. I asked you to come to my room because I saw your bruise during dinner," Lance said. He fell back and bounced off the bed. He stared at the ceiling, muttering, "I feel defeated and humiliated right now."

Madeline lay next to him, resting her head on his chest as she gently traced circles on his pecs. "Relax, darling, I’m not going to die just because of a bruise. Besides, this will be a warning for you, Mr. Grant."

"Don’t put me in a difficult position again, or I might actually find another man that will treat me right," Madeline said. "All I want is for you not to hurt me. Is it too much to ask?"

Lance wrapped his arms around Madeline’s hips, pulling her deeper into his embrace. "Sorry... I was an idiot who didn’t understand my own feelings. I hurt you without thinking, and now I regret it."

"Do you understand what you want now?" Madeline chuckled.

"Yes, I want you," Lance said. "Please stay by my side, and I will make it worthwhile for you."

Madeline could feel the sincerity in Lance’s words. She closed her eyes as she rubbed her face on his pecs. "I won’t leave unless you’re the one who kicked me out. I’m a ride-or-die kind of person. If we crash and burn, then we will do it together."

Lance kissed her head as he felt at ease, knowing that he occupied Madeline’s heart.

"I love you, Madeline Rose."
