Chapter 145: Chapter 145

"Don’t try your luck, Zane," Madeline said softly, to the point that only they could hear it.

"Try me," Zane said with a smile. "You won’t regret it, I promise."

Madeline gritted her teeth. With all of those live recordings, she wouldn’t be able to reject him.

Madeline prided herself on being a professional actress, but this was against her decision, and she had no choice but to kiss him.

Thus, she swallowed her reluctance and hooked her hand around Zane’s neck so he would bend slightly.

She kissed him on the lips for a second, but before she could end it, Zane suddenly wrapped his arms around Madeline’s hips and locked her in place while he ravaged her lips.

Madeline was shocked. She didn’t even have time to struggle before Zane finished kissing her and slowly let go.

"Now, that’s what I call a kiss," Zane chuckled. "I’ll leave now. Good luck with today’s schedule, Babe."

Zane walked away from Madeline, leaving her with a bunch of jealous mobs at the entrance.

She silently wiped her lips, as she hated having a forced kiss. Unfortunately, she couldn’t do much, as dating Zane in public was part of her plan with Lance.

Thus, she turned around and ignored all the judging stares from other supporting actresses and extras.

She headed straight to the dressing room to get the right outfit for Renata and then to the makeup room to prepare for her first scene.

Madeline knew they would post their recording to social media or had probably already live-streamed everything between her and Zane in the morning.

She didn’t care about their cheap gossip about her, but she was worried that Lance might see it and think she was too close to Zane.

’But it should be fine, right? Zane and I must look romantic in public to make it convincing. I will kick up some fuss before our TV show project airs,’ Madeline thought.

"So, are you ready for the first scene?" Julia sat next to her in the makeup room, ready to get her makeup done for the first scene.

"Morning, Julia." Madeline smiled. "Yes, I’ve studied my role. To some extent, I see why Harry cheated with Renata."

"Really?"

"Mm." Madeline nodded. "Jillian is a strong woman, but she can be cold sometimes and very condescending, too. For a man with fragile masculinity like Harry, he needs a woman who would constantly fawn over every small thing he did, and Renata is doing just that."

"Very good. Renata is indeed the type of woman that Harry likes, but he can’t divorce his wife because he still has genuine feelings for Jillian, too," Julia smiled. "It will be fun shooting the scenes with you, Madeline."

The crew began setting up the first scene between Jillian and Renata in a coffee shop, where Renata came to buy Harry’s favorite coffee and accidentally bumped into Jillian.

Director Wang sat on a small stool and waited until Madeline and Julia were ready, then took the cue, "Three, two, one, action!"

—The Liar Husband and Lying Wife, Scene #1—

"A double espresso shot Americano and a latte with extra milk, and yes, with a paper bag," Renata ordered. After she paid for her order, she saw a familiar woman walking into the coffee shop.

Jillian looked exhausted, with obvious dark bags under her eyes. But she still smiled at the barista and said her order, then sat on the table near the window.

She opened her laptop and was busy working on her project, not realizing that Renata had been eyeing her the whole time.

"Your order, miss," the barista said as he put the paper bag on her table.

Renata ignored the barista. Her eyes were still on Jillian.

She wondered if she should approach this woman or not.

Harry would get angry at her if she made trouble with his wife, but Renata was jealous, thinking he spent his nights with Jillian, who didn’t appreciate him much.

Driven by jealousy and ambition, Renata decided to walk towards Jillian and sit facing her.

Jillian glanced at this young and gorgeous woman, who suddenly barged in. She frowned and closed her laptop. "Do I know you?"

"You don’t, but I know you very well, Jillian Hurst." Renata grinned mysteriously.

"Yeah, you’re one creepy young lady," Jillian said without hesitation. "If you don’t even bother introducing yourself, leave me alone."

"Sorry, I was just teasing you," Renata giggled. "I’m Renata Glass, your husband’s new secretary."

Jillian’s body stiffened.

She didn’t know that her husband had hired a new, gorgeous young secretary after he fired the old lady before.

But their relationship wasn’t in good shape for a while, so he didn’t tell her, and she didn’t bother to ask.

Jillian finally took a good look at Renata, and she realized how seductive and provocative she was.

On top of her beauty, Renata wore a tight blouse and a short skirt. She was almost like a stereotypical secretary who would sleep with her boss.

Jillian had a bad feeling about this, but she still tried to ward off the bad thoughts about her husband out of goodwill.

They might be in a cold war, but surely he wouldn’t cheat on her, right?

Renata seemed to get the gist of what was on Jillian’s mind, which gave her satisfaction.

She wanted to be known, and rather than be a hidden mistress, she wanted Harry to tell the world they were in a relationship.

"Is that so?" Jillian tried to stay as calm and uninterested as possible. "Well, I hope you’re doing a good job at his office."

"Oh, trust me, I’m doing an amazing job. I make him satisfied all the time," Madeline said, which intentionally set up a fire in Jillian’s heart.

"And what do you mean by that?" Jillian asked.

"Mm~ My performance is very satisfactory," Renata teased her even more. "But enough about me, Miss Hurst. I approached you here because I want to tell you how much your husband despises your existence."
