Chapter 105: Chapter 105

George stared at Madeline’s back and asked Nurse Dalton, "Who is that girl?"

"Ah, I forgot this is only your third day in the hospital. But she is Madeline Rose. Yes, that Madeline Rose you see on TV." Nurse Dalton sighed. "Please don’t disturb her or even try to insult her. She’s living a hard life."

"A hard life?" George raised a question. He already knew so many things about Madeline from Lance. But he didn’t expect Nurse Dalton, the strictest nurse he had ever met during a medical internship, to pity Madeline.

Nurse Dalton looked at her left and right, and after making sure that nobody else could eavesdrop, she revealed, "Madeline’s mother is hospitalized here. It’s been about five years since she first came to this hospital. She’s suffering from lung cancer and a rapidly growing tumor."

"Five years is a long time. Is she getting better?" George muttered. "And how about the money?"

Though George didn’t really understand the concept of money since his family was born filthy rich, he knew that hospital treatment could instantly drain normal people’s savings.

He had witnessed enough people having breakdowns in the hospital because the hospital bills killed them.

"Her mother is getting better. If the cancer cell doesn’t regrow in the next six months, she should be able to return home," Nurse Dalton said. "About money... that’s the tragic part of Madeline’s life..."

Nurse Dalton’s eyes glazed with tears as she spent five years seeing Madeline struggle to raise money for her mother.

"She’s actually a very sweet girl. She told me once that she doesn’t want to return to the entertainment industry, but it’s necessary if she wants to raise enough money for her mother’s treatment," Nurse Dalton said. "I know you won’t check on Mrs. Rose as she needs professional care. But please, if you ever see Mrs. Diana Rose in the hospital’s garden, just act like nothing happened."

"Does she not know Madeline Rose is back in the entertainment industry?" George asked.

"No, and Madeline told us not to tell her. Because she doesn’t want her mother to know," Nurse Dalton replied. She lowered her voice and added, "You know, about her case with that actor back then, Jonathan Hale?"

"I see..." George muttered. He had a thin smile as he saw the car key Madeline accidentally dropped while she ran away. "She’s a sweet girl, huh?"

Madeline wanted to leave the hospital as soon as possible. So she searched for her car key in her back pocket, only to find out she couldn’t feel it.

Her face paled as she just had a grim realization: "Fuck, no. No-no-no, don’t tell me that I dropped it somewhere in the hospital."

Madeline searched for it inside her bag and other pockets but still couldn’t find it, which confirmed that she must’ve dropped it in the hospital.

"Fuck, fuck, fuck!" Madeline kept cursing as she walked back to the hospital and asked the receptionist, who smiled at her.

Madeline fixed her expression and asked, "Excuse me, I think I dropped my car key somewhere in the hospital lobby. Did anyone happen to find it and give it to you?"

"Uhh... no, but you can search through the corridor again. It’s not crowded today, so it must be lying somewhere."

That was the worst thing she could’ve done. She didn’t want to meet with the man, who could possibly be Lance’s brother.

"C—Can you ask the security to search it for me? I—"

"You don’t need to."

Madeline turned around when she heard the gentle voice of a man behind her.

The man, who looked similar to Lance, smiled at her while dangling the key in front of her face. "It was in the hospital corridor. You dropped it when you ran."

Madeline was too stunned to speak, so the man grabbed her hand and forced it to open. He put it on her hand and closed it. "Be careful next time, sister-in-law."

Madeline felt there was a chain explosion inside her mind.

Not only did this man look so similar to Lance, but he also called her ’sister-in-law,’ which confirmed that he was Lance’s brother.

"What? Why are you making that kind of face? Do I look funny?"

"Y—You—w-w-why did you call me sister-in-law? Do we know each other?"

"Hm? Of course, you’re Lance’s girl—urp!"

Madeline quickly covered his mouth and glanced at the receptionist, who had been eavesdropping the whole time.

She quickly dragged the man to the hospital garden, which was currently empty, and forced him to sit on the bench while she stood in front of him menacingly.

"Tell me, how did you know it was me? I’m not in my usual style on TV," Madeline said. "And how much do you know about Lance and me?"

The man smiled at Madeline and raised his brow. "Are you not going to ask me about my name first?"

"O—Oh, yeah, what’s your name?"

"George Grant," George introduced himself properly as it was part of his training as a proper gentleman in the Duchy of York, where his parents raised him. "Third son of the Grant family."

"First, you need to stop calling me sister-in-law because I am not," Madeline said. "Second, why are you here?!"

"I’m currently a medical intern in this hospital. I didn’t know I’d meet my sister-in-law here," George replied. "But why are you here, sister-in-law? Are you visiting someone?"

Of course, George already knew about Madeline’s mother’s condition, as Nurse Dalton told him just now about the unfortunate life of Madeline Rose.

But he wanted to test whether Madeline Rose was stupid enough to reveal everything.

After all, the Grant family didn’t need a stupid and naive woman who would leak every secret.

Meanwhile, Madeline clicked her tongue.

She didn’t know if George thought of her as an idiot because there was no way Nurse Dalton didn’t tell him about her mother’s condition.

After all, he is a medical intern at this hospital.

"Don’t take me as an idiot. Nurse Dalton must’ve told you everything about my mother," Madeline said.
