Chapter 103: Chapter 103

Lance returned to his penthouse. He threw himself on his bed, as he just had a long flight from Bali to Los Angeles.

He should’ve been sleeping, but he couldn’t even close his eyes right now.

His mind and heart were restless as he kept thinking about Madeline Rose, the woman who made things far more difficult than he expected.

Lance stared at the ceiling as he thought about the choice that Madeline had given him.

-

’Whether you want to see me in this business persona I put up or the real girl you saw last night, the choice is yours, Mr. Grant.’

-

That statement lingered in his head, forcing him to pick one of these difficult choices.

"To make her a mere business tool..." Lance muttered. "Or to make her my real girlfriend..."

...

"Fuck, how am I supposed to decide? She’s making it difficult for me!" Lance covered his eyes with his arm as he got frustrated.

Amid his confusion, his phone suddenly rang. So he checked the caller ID and then quickly accepted it.

"What is it, George?" Lance said as the call with his little brother was connected.

"It’s been a while since I called you. I just want to catch up," George replied.

"Do you want to know about Madeline Rose?" Lance asked, going straight to the point.

"W—Well, I’m just curious, since she is your current big project," George said. "Also, I’ve gotten the information from the secretary in your company that you’re off work for three days to go to Bali. So I guess this is all about her again, huh?"

Lance massaged his forehead as he knew George would eventually discover it.

Though George had no share within Empress Entertainment, Lance made sure that all higher-ups in his company knew about his little brother so George could come and go as he pleased, including inquiring about Lance’s whereabouts.

’Well, there’s no point in lying to him anyway. He’s on my side unless he wants to be Theodore’s little slave for the rest of his life,’ Lance thought before he replied, "Yes, I had to pick her up from that reality show, or else she’d probably fuck another man while I wasn’t around."

"Fuck another man?" George repeated in case he heard it wrong. "Did she cheat on you? Damn, she’s so bold. I like her already."

"Shut up," Lance clicked his tongue. "She got entangled with one of the cast members of the show, so I can’t just let her frolic around with that scum. I must let her know that I’ll always watch over her since she’s my girlfriend."

"You mean, contractual girlfriend, right?" George reminded his brother. "Unless... you already gave in to the temptation and made her a real girlfriend? I thought our first plan was to use her infamy to ruin Theodore’s plan."

"Y—Yeah, she’s my contractual girlfriend," Lance confirmed, as he was still unsure about his feelings. "I have to keep her in check."

"I called Valerie, and she said that you and Madeline are a pain in the butt. If Madeline is making things difficult for you, why don’t you kick her out, bro?" George asked. "Surely there are other women you can utilize for this mission, right?"

Lance’s eyes widened.

He knew that George was right, but listening to his advice actually pissed him off.

"Take that back, George," Lance said coldly. "She is irreplaceable for our mission."

"Whoa, why do you sound hostile so suddenly? I was just giving advice." George sighed.

"Your advice is unnecessary. I know what I’m doing," Lance said arrogantly.

"Really? You told me that you would threaten Theodore to smear the Grant family legacy and reputation by marrying the worst woman on earth." George parroted what Lance told him back then. "Theodore will be forced to give us our fair share of wealth and leave us alone, so he won’t dictate to us like we’re some kind of little helpers for him."

"And once Theodore has given up and accepted our demands, you will kick Madeline out of your life because... well—" George went quiet for a moment before he added, "—marrying her will ruin our family legacy and reputation. You will disappoint Mom and Dad if you marry Madeline Rose."

"Breaking your connection with someone like Madeline will be far more difficult. She doesn’t seem stupid based on what Valerie told me," George said. "So why don’t you pick a dumber woman for this mission, bro?"

Beep.

Lance ended the call abruptly.

He didn’t want to be reminded of his parents, who were still battling cancer while the brothers were busy with their own power struggles.

Lance closed his eyes as he imagined his parents looking at him disappointedly. He might not be the darling in their eyes, but he still loves them dearly.

He knew that George was right.

If he wanted to utilize Madeline in his plan, there was zero chance of him actually marrying her because it would completely smear the family legacy that his parents built with their blood, sweat, and tears.

So, the best and most logical method was to kick her out immediately after he had achieved his goal.

"But can I actually do that?" Lance asked himself.

...

Unfortunately, his heart had already given him a solid answer faster than his mind.

But he just didn’t want to admit it because it would only make his mission even more difficult.

On top of that, he also couldn’t imagine Madeline with another man. The mental image was just too much for him to handle.

Lance closed his eyes again, but this time, he finally made his decision.

"Fine, I will make her my real girlfriend," Lance muttered. "I will treat her very well, and by the time I’m done using her for my mission, I should’ve exhausted all of my feelings for her. So I can dump her easily."

Lance had made up his mind, dispelling all the doubts in his heart as it would only ruin his plan.

’I started a contract with her for this sole mission to fight against my big brother, and I will break the contract once I’ve reached my goal,’ Lance told himself. ’This is my final decision.’
