Chapter 100: Chapter 100

Lance gnashed his teeth as he knew this would make another round to turn back to that bastard Zane Eastwood all over again.

No matter how often they talked about it, Madeline kept asking about Zane.

And no matter how often she told him she wasn’t in love with Zane, her actions spoke otherwise.

"Do you love him that much? Why do we keep talking about this scum?"

"He’s not a scum, and I’m not in love with him. How many times do I have to tell you that?" Madeline said, frowning. "He’s my friend, and I want to apologize properly. After all, my ’boyfriend’ hurt him when he had been nothing but nice to me."

"He doesn’t need that apology. He literally choked you, don’t you remember?" Lance stated. "I just saved you from that man. He’s trying to kill you."

"That’s because you provoked him with your sudden appearance at the filming set," Madeline said. "I just can’t rest until I properly apologize. He is the man who saved me from a lifetime of embarrassment."

"I can tell Valerie to cut any embarrassing part in the reality show before it airs."

"Oh, we both know you won’t do that. Let’s just be honest. Everything is just business for you," Madeline giggled. "Besides, Zane and I worked together in a musical drama when we were ten. I just want to reconnect."

...

Lance’s good mood vanished instantly, replaced with frustration because Madeline kept mentioning that good-for-nothing bastard.

But if he was quick to say no, they might return to their screaming match again. So he reluctantly said, "I have a contact with his agency. I’ll try to get his number for you later."

"Aww, thank you, darling. I know I can count on you." Madeline kissed him on the jaw before she got up from his lap. "So, when will we fly back to Los Angeles?"

"It should have been an hour ago, but I’ll call my secretary to book another at noon," Lance replied.

"Alright, I’ll get prepared first," Madeline said. "I can’t wait to go back and meet with my brother and mother. I miss them so much."

Madeline walked into the bedroom, leaving Lance alone, staring at the ginger tea in front of him.

He sighed.

Of course, he would never give her Zane’s phone number.

Hell, if things went too far between Madeline and Zane, Lance could get him blacklisted for the rest of his life.

’And as for Maddy...’ Lance looked over his shoulder and saw Madeline stuffing all her clothes into her luggage.

He didn’t know if Madeline was using Zane to bait him into agreeing with whatever she wanted, but he would never give her what she wanted with that bastard.

’Friend with Zane Eastwood? Don’t make me laugh, Madeline Rose,’ Lance scoffed. ’I will never give you that chance. You’re not allowed to befriend another man while you have me.’

**

Madeline and Lance checked out of the hotel and had a flight to Los Angeles at around three.

Unfortunately, Lance couldn’t book an entire first class for this flight, so they could only settle for a regular first class with a tinted glass partition to separate them.

"Sir, you can press that button to remove the partition," the flight attendant said.

"Oh, yeah," Lance pressed the button, and the tinted glass partition slowly rolled down, giving him full access to Madeline.

Madeline raised her brow. "And what is this for, Mr. Grant? Can you roll up the partition again?"

"No, you act like we’re strangers. I should’ve told my secretary to book the one with a private room instead."

Madeline shrugged, not caring in the least. "Alright, I’m going to watch a movie then."

Lance looked at Madeline with great interest, thinking she would watch a comedy or romance.

He wanted to know more about this woman, after all.

But she actually picked an anti-hero action movie, Mob.

And the actor who played the main character was none other than Zane Eastwood.

Lance’s smile vanished, and he rolled the partition up, not wanting to see such an offensive thing.

’Oh, Lance, it’s so easy to read you.’ Madeline grinned. She grabbed a chip from the mini-fridge, ready to watch the movie, before her movie suddenly paused.

She frowned. She pressed all the buttons, but the screen simply froze before it was turned off.

So Madeline called the flight attendant, "Excuse me, my screen just froze before it just turned off."

"Oh, it’s because your husband said that you have a problem with eye strain, ma’am," the flight attendant replied. "So he told us to turn off both of your screens."

"Husband?" Madeline frowned.

"Yes, your husband, the one sitting next to you," the flight attendant said with a smile.

Madeline turned her head instantly. She pressed a button to roll down the partition and glared at Lance, who was grinning while eating caviar with a chip.

"Tell them to turn on the screen again, Lance. I want to watch something."

"Promise me first that you won’t watch any of his movies, and I will do that." Lance scooped the caviar from the tin with the chips and offered it to Madeline.

"Ugh, fine," Madeline said, then ate the chips.

"Good girl," Lance chuckled, and he called the flight attendant to turn on their screens again.

"As long as you’re not watching his movies, I’m going to keep this partition rolled down," Lance said. "Now go on, watch something that you like. I’ll watch it with you."

Madeline sighed, "Alright, don’t get surprised by my taste."

Madeline scrolled through the documentary section and watched a real murder story of a serial killer, complete with the graphic image.

Lance’s smile dissipated slowly when he realized Madeline was watching such an extreme show.

"Do you seriously like this, or are you just messing with me right now?" Lance asked, his face pale.

"Watching true crime documentaries or podcasts helps me sleep," Madeline said as she yawned. "If you can’t watch this, then we can return to that action movie, Mr. Grant."

"No, I can watch this," Lance insisted. But he had already lost his appetite.

Madeline chuckled, turned off her screen, and patted his cheek. "Okay, no need to force yourself. You should rest. Don’t worry, I won’t watch anything. I’m also feeling sleepy, anyway."

"Go to sleep then. I’ll watch over you."

...

Madeline stared at Lance for a moment before slowly rolling up the tinted glass partition, her lips twitching.

"Wait, I didn’t mean it in a creepy way. I just want to make sure that you are safe—"

"Have a good rest, Mr. Grant."
