Chapter 91: 89 | Unreachable
Blue didn’t come to this conclusion through assumption. He’d been noticing the signs for the past few months. Unlike before when he and Winter would banter about everything, now they argued about everything.
Bantering and arguing were two different things. Bantering used to end up in sex. Arguing always ended up in not talking to each other for days.
And Blue didn’t like arguing. He hated it. He hated having to not talk to Winter or see Winter at all for an entire day. He hated having to walk around eggshells when he and Winter were in the same room.
And he hated having to see a particular look on Winter’s face. One that only surfaced during the past few months. Blue hated when Winter would look at him as though he could be discarded at any time.
Oh fuck... thinking about that expression now. Blue hoped he wouldn’t get to see it when he returned home.
"Is everything okay with the mister?" Ken asked Blue, bringing him back to the present by indirectly mentioning Winter.
Blue had already unconsciously begun to shake his head when he stopped himself and forced a smile on his face, saying, "Yeah, everything’s fine."
Blue was not like Winter who could make people believe the most unbelievable things just by saying them. He wasn’t a good liar.
Immediately after his words were spoken, a grave look settled on Ken’s features. If it was anyone else, he would have made a joke about them forgetting their worries and going over to coax their lover, but this was Blue—an Omega who truly respected himself.
If Ken said anything to Blue about him seducing Winter to coax him, Blue would take offense and view it as an insult. So Ken decided to keep his one and only advice to himself.
He could only sigh and say, "Don’t worry. Everything will be fine."
Blue looked at Ken with a strange expression on his face. It was a mixture of disappointment and hopefulness. Blue guessed that Ken would’ve passed his obvious worries as a joke if he were to be anyone else.
Blue had built himself in such a way that no one dared to openly toy with him or disrespect him out of fear of his reaction. He’d made himself unreachable for many years that even if he wanted to be reached now, there was no one who would be completely willing to reach out to him.
"Yeah..." Blue simply said in response to Ken’s words.
The conversation ended there as the shooting began. Things weren’t relatively as slow as the previous day, seeing that Blue was wearing a long face all day and each of the cast members were afraid of stepping on his toes and being the one whom he would let out his anger on.
It was during lunch break when a brave soldier decided to go to war. Blue was on his way to a nearby diner when a black car blocked his way.
It was easy to recognize the car and the owner of it, causing Blue to quicken his steps and literally jump inside the diner. Blue thought he was safe. As soon as he sat down, someone sat down along with him, taking the space across from him at his table.
"The actual fuck..." Blue muttered to himself.
Adonis stared at Blue with a goofy smile on his face, resting one side of his face on his palm with a propped elbow against the table.
"Hi." Adonis said.
"Leave." Blue said.
"No."
"Leave now."
"I won’t."
"Okay then. I’ll leave." Blue said, ready to stand up.
"I’ll follow you." Adonis countered.
Blue didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. What sort of dilemma was he being subjected to? At home, it was an Extremely Dominant Alpha who never gave him face. At work, it was an Extremely Dominant Alpha who never gave him peace.
Yes, Adonis was among the 1% of the world’s population who had extremely dominant pheromones. That had even been one of the main reasons why Blue had appreciated his existence from the start.
What were the odds of finding someone who was born alike with Winter? The only stark difference between the two Alphas was that Winter was born into wealth while Adonis worked for his wealth.
Blue wasn’t completely knowledgeable about Adonis’s backstory, but he knew that the guy was an orphan and found his way into the entertainment industry when he was young because of his superior looks.
Through struggle, he’d grown to be one of the toughest people in the entertainment industry with both charm and talent. But none of those things actually mattered to Blue.
Blue was only concerned with the fact that Adonis stood a great chance of winning the award for the ’most annoying person in the world’ this year.
"So, let’s just be good and have lunch together. We’re both running on a tight schedule." Adonis said, tapping on his wristwatch.
Blue was so frustrated that he couldn’t even say a word. A waitress came over and took their orders. From the time their orders were taken to the time their meals were served, Adonis didn’t stop speaking.
"... Since no one was brave enough, I decided to do it as we are both good friends, aren’t we? So tell me, who, other than me, was able to put you in such a bad mood?"
Blue was only able to catch those words out of Adonis’s rant, just in time for the arrival of his food.
Blue looked at Adonis. There was a quarter or so difference in his facial structure compared to Winter’s own. But because of his dyed blond hair and green contact lenses, if Adonis and Winter were to stand next to each other, they would be mistaken for twin brothers.
That fact irritated Blue so much. He wanted his Winter and not the annoying knockoff seated across from him.
"We’re not friends." Blue said monotonously in response to all of Adonis’s words.
There was a look of disbelief on the Alpha’s face before it relaxed and a broad smile settled on his lips as he said, "You’re right. We’re not friends. We’re best friends!"
Blue mentally facepalmed himself.
"Just- don’t say anything anymore." Blue was too weak to argue, slightly surprising Adonis and making him frown a little bit.
Blue ate in silence. Adonis tried to initiate a conversation but was ignored each time. It got so pathetic to the point that Adonis had to say, "What exactly is your problem with me?"
Blue could only lift one of his brows as if to say, ’Really?’
"I’m serious. I know you’re hostile to everyone else in the crew—which I’m grateful for. But why are you extra hostile to me??" Adonis complained.
"I don’t know, maybe because you’re annoying?" Blue responded nonchalantly.
Adonis’s jaw dropped. He, himself, knew that he was annoying, but that didn’t mean that he wanted people telling him that he was annoying! An offended look came to play on his face.
If he was expecting Blue to take back his words or apologize, he was in for disappointment because Blue carried on eating his meal, completely ignoring Adonis after saying his piece.
Blue left Adonis after he was done eating and returned back to the set. Everyone picked up from where they left off and surprisingly, the work day ended relatively fast.
After the call for close, Blue checked the time and realized that it was almost time for Winter to check out of the office. Winter’s workplace wasn’t really far from the set. Blue had the mind to pay Winter a visit and see if he was still angry at him.
On the way there, he bought a box of condoms and hid it inside his bag. Blue didn’t need a company ID card to get through the front door of the office building. The security guards were already familiar with him, as well as the female Beta receptionist.
Blue took the elevator to get to Winter’s floor and was stuck with a male Alpha, who wasn’t ashamed to release his pheromones in public despite being dressed like a responsible person.
Blue still had a pheromone disorder. Though being with Winter reduced the effects of the pain in his glands, he was met with a new problem. Sensing the pheromones of foreign Alphas could cause his glands to itch. This was because he hadn’t gotten a permanent mark from Winter, making him vulnerable to other pheromones.
And he had never even brought up the topic of permanent marking with Winter ever before. Despite how much Blue loved Winter, he feared a permanent mark from an Alpha more.
"Could you stop releasing your pheromones?" Blue opened his mouth to speak with the Alpha as it was only the two of them inside the elevator.
The Alpha, who was standing next to Blue, tilted his head to one side to look at him, then shamelessly said:
"No."
