Chapter 46 - 44 | Wine
Chapter 46: 44 | Wine
Almost an hour after his phone conversation with Winter, Blue began to regret his decision of heading to the beach house. Presently, he was standing at the center of Winter’s supposed private property.
Looking through the window, he could see the other house where Adam and other people were passed out from partying. This particular house Blue was inside was smaller than the other one and had a more cozy touch to it.
Blue couldn’t find anything particularly wrong with the decor of the house. Blue’s only problem was with Winter, who was standing behind the kitchen’s counter and warming up canned food.
"I thought you said you’d give me privacy." Blue spoke up, dragging his legs over to Winter.
Winter, who was wearing a white top that was stuck to his skin and revealed his toned chest and arms, lifted his head to look at Blue. The action caught Blue off guard, making him instantly look away.
Winter was his imaginary man and they had even kissed before! Blue still hadn’t wrapped his head around all of that. And now, Winter was here in front of him looking like this, doing this and that to demonstrate his strength.
Blue didn’t like this situation. He didn’t like it at all...
"I can’t let you go hungry on my account, can I?" Winter said, squeezing his facial features to a petty smile.
Blue never told Winter that he was hungry. Yes, he was actually hungry as he had eaten only a few bites of food back at the Kent house before walking out on his family.
Blue thought that he should’ve carried his plate with him when he left instead of marching off on an empty stomach.
"I’m almost done. Have a seat." Winter gestured to a stool across from him.
With a heavy heart and an empty stomach, Blue forced himself to sit down without complaining.
Winter served him, then turned around and walked away. However, he didn’t walk in the direction of the front door. He took a door that led him inside the house even more.
Blue was already questioning all his wrong life choices as he ate the food. A few moments passed before Winter returned. And in his hands were a wine bottle and two glass cups.
Blue frowned and said, "Who’s the other glass for?"
Winter was slightly shaken by Blue’s words but he smiled nonetheless as he planted the glasses and the wine on the counter.
"You sounded like you needed a bottle of wine and an ear when I spoke to you on the phone, so..." Winter trailed off, leaving behind the rest of his words for Blue to figure out.
Blue lifted his head to look at Winter and thought, ’And you think I would vent to you?’
Winter was able to read Blue’s thoughts at that moment. So he ended up opening and closing his mouth as there were no words he could use to counter Blue’s thoughts.
After a second, something popped into his head.
"We’re friends, aren’t we? Friends should tell each other things and be there for one another." Winter began saying, seamlessly sitting himself down across from Blue.
"Stop. Don’t keep using that to get me to do things." Blue said with a small voice as he gestured for Winter to open the bottle.
"I’m not using our status as friends to get to you. I’m just trying to, you know, remind you of it from time to time because you always seem to forget about it."
Poof!
The cork of the wine was pulled off after Winter said his last word. Then he poured wine into Blue’s glass before moving to his own.
"And since you don’t have many friends, I guess you don’t really know how friendships work, so I’m here to guide you on all of that." There was a subtle undertone in Winter’s words as he lifted his glass and drank from it, his eyes never leaving Blue; and Blue’s eyes never leaving him either.
Blue suddenly began to feel heated. He lifted his own glass and gulped down half the contents of it in one go.
"All I’m saying is that you can tell me anything." Winter licked his bottom lip and put his glass down.
Blue sighed, feeling worn down by Winter.
"I can’t tell you things. You’re an Alpha." Blue propped down his elbow against the counter and rested one side of his face on his palm.
"I thought we moved past this..." Winter said with exhaustion.
"No one can move past what they are." Blue said with a self-deprecating smile fixed on his lips.
Winter could guess that at this point, Blue wasn’t talking about him. And that Blue wasn’t going to talk about his family. So he decided to talk about something else.
"Okay then. Let’s talk about your book. How far along are you?" Winter asked, and for the first time in his entire life, he heard Blue’s laughter.
Blue threw his head back and laughed, the sound could be compared to continuously snorting and it made Blue’s face scrunched up with his lower teeth showing.
If Blue had any other person’s face, the sight of him laughing would have been a horror show. But with his own face and his own smooth and slightly deep voice, the sight and sound of his laughter brought warmth to Winter’s heart.
Winter didn’t know that there had been an awestruck look on his face as he asked Blue, "What? What’s so funny?"
Blue was slowly sobering up as he heard that question. He put his hand to his mouth and said in between laughs, "What do you mean how far along am I? That’s the kind of thing you ask pregnant people!"
Oooohhhh....
Winter finally understood, nodding his head and smiling in amusement as his own misuse of words.
"Yeah yeah. But really, how’s the book coming up?"
"It’s okay, I guess. You’ve been a really big help to me and I bet I could wrap it up in two or three months now." Blue said, not knowing that there were traces of a smile on his lips.
Winter raised a brow and said, "Really??"
Blue nodded, then said, "I think we can stop our sessions. I know a lot about you now to tell who you truly are."
Winter lifted his glass to his mouth and took a sip of wine before saying, "So, who am I?"
There was nothing special about this action, yet, the room became heated and the two people inside it felt like they were about to cross a line that they could never come back from.
