Chapter 44: 42 | Burst of Inspiration
Blue was standing at the front door of the Kent house. Though he wanted to be standing anywhere else in the world, he couldn’t move his feet and leave.
Just then, the front door opened. It was a slim middle-aged butler who opened it. Blue knew the man very well but chose to skip pleasantries with him.
"Youngest Master, welcome home." The Butler spoke with an English accent.
Blue ignored him and dragged in his small suitcase. There was a snap sound and two maids appeared by Blue’s side, ready to take his suitcase and bag to his room.
Blue gave the two young maids a killer glare and they visibly shrunk into themselves.
"Youngest Master, there is no need to strain yourselves. We will help you—"
"I don’t need any help from the likes of you people." Blue spoke with a sharp tone, rendering the butler speechless.
Then he began to walk in the direction of a guest room in the Kent house, instead of taking the stairs to arrive at his own room on the second floor that had been specially cleaned-up for him.
The butler opened his mouth to say something about this, but Blue’s voice sounded before his own.
"I hope you guys didn’t clean up that cell hoping that I would stay there."
Blue wasn’t speaking in a literal sense. His old room had been spacious and luxurious. But it was a cell all but in name. Blue could remember how the room had to be opened for him from the outside and how he needed to receive permission from his father or the head maid before he was allowed out anywhere.
And other times when he was inside, the room would be locked. Even prisoners had more freedom than he did.
However, Blue didn’t like to think about such things. So he pushed the memories deep down and made his way to the guest room.
This time around, he was able to lock the room from the inside after walking in and didn’t have someone standing outside to lock the door after stepping into a room.
Blue looked around the guest room and let out a sigh.
"As expected of the Kent family..." Blue drawled.
The room was up to a five-star hotel standard. Blue’s mind didn’t linger on the decor of the room too long as he had things to do.
He arranged his things into the wardrobe and had a bath. After coming out from the bath, there was a sudden burst of inspiration within him and he poured it into his laptop as he typed for hours without rest.
After tapping on the ’full-stop’ key in his laptop, Blue let out a yawn and stretched his muscles while sitting down. He checked the time and saw that it was exactly dinner time.
A sudden heaviness weighed down on his body. However, Blue ignored it. Though he dreaded having to sit at a Kent family dinner once again, he knew that he had to do it.
He had to experience it again. All for his book.
"If this book doesn’t become a bestseller, I might as well stop writing forever..." Blue said with a fleeting tone as he lazily stood up from his working chair.
His words were serious. Blue had been thinking of quitting writing for a long time after tasting fame from it. Writing, for Blue, started off as a way to let out his emotions and relieve himself.
However, without the constant pressure that came with being a member of the Kent family and dealing with his Omega identity, Blue was relatively okay.
He was now able to stand up to his family, and he was also ’comfortable’ with his Omega identity now. There wasn’t really a reason to continue writing now, was there?
Blue just wanted to put out this last book to the world and call it quits. This story of his couldn’t die in his head because of his laziness.
With that decided, Blue came out of his room. Right on cue, a maid arrived to tell him that it was dinner time and that the dining table was set.
Blue steeled his nerves and led himself to the dining room. And as said, the table was truly set with the remaining members of the Kent family settled on it.
Seeing Blue, Preston Kent smiled. His face wrinkled as lines that Blue hadn’t seen the last time, surfaced clearly. Preston’s eyes were now hollowed-out and his skin was deathly pale.
Blue wondered just how fast the man was taking steps to the underworld.
"I heard that you arrived this afternoon. I’m sorry I wasn’t around to welcome you properly." Preston said.
Blue ignored his words as he drew out a seat for himself and settled down.
"I also heard that you chose to stay in a guest bedroom. What’s wrong with your old room?" Eliot piped up.
Blue’s attention was focused on the portion of food on his plate. The other three men passed glances to each other.
Blue pretended not to be aware of this as he stuffed a spoonful of food into his mouth.
Atlas cleared his throat loudly before he said, "We’re all trying to make an effort here. You staying in a guest bedroom doesn’t paint a very good image, does it?"
"Well, I’m not here to paint good images, am I?" Blue retorted, finally speaking.
Atlas frowned and said, "Then why are you here?"
"What? You don’t want me here anymore?" Blue raised a brow.
Atlas opened his mouth to fire back but Preston began to cough, killing the entire mood. He was given a glass of water and was able to down the entire thing before his cough subsided.
"It doesn’t really matter what room you stay in. As long as you’re here, that’s all that matters." Preston said with a humble tone.
Blue scoffed. To him, the man was trying to sound like some righteous fellow who just received enlightenment and wanted to spread it to the world.
It was so hypocritical hearing Preston say such things. It didn’t fit into his image at all.
"Ah... so tell me, what have you been up to these days? How’s school? Work? Social life?" Preston made an effort to start a conversation with Blue.
However, what he got from Blue was a scoff with the words, "Don’t pretend as if you don’t know anything about my life when you have private investigators one and two stalking me."
Private investigators one and two were Atlas and Eliot.
With the response Preston got from Blue, he could only bow his head and make a strange sound. Then he sat up straight once again and said, "What about a partner? Do you have any now?"
The mood in the dining room shifted negatively significantly.
