Chapter 159: Special Chapter 4

How could Winter ever find a way to forgive himself, not to talk of getting Blue to forgive him?

"I shouldn’t have. I know that I shouldn’t have. But I didn’t want to lose you too..." Winter cried as he tried to explain himself.

Blue still didn’t understand. "Lose me too? Winter, you better get your act together or get out. I am seriously not in the mood for whatever you think you’re doing."

Blue’s tone was still cold and detached. He couldn’t let himself get weak like usual. He turned his head away once again, refusing to look at Winter.

The more he looked at those sincere green eyes and tear-stained cheeks, the more his hardened heart broke, melting into a puddle of forgiveness.

He couldn’t afford to forgive Winter. Not after catching him directly in the act. No word from Winter was going to wear him down. No amount of tears, too.

"The doctors... they tried. I know, they tried, but they couldn’t do anything. I should’ve- I should’ve gotten you here myself. I shouldn’t have panicked. I shouldn’t have been stupid. I’m sorry. I’m really sorry..." Winter pressed his head against the bed, not able to look at Blue any longer.

But at that moment, Blue turned to look at Winter once again. His heart began to pound rapidly.

"What do you mean by the doctors tried but they couldn’t do anything?" Blue asked slowly, his voice almost inaudible.

Winter didn’t answer.

"I just asked you a question! Answer me right now!!" Blue increased the volume of his voice, realizing that if he didn’t yell, Winter wouldn’t cave.

That was when Winter lifted his head and managed to wipe his face as he spoke in between sniffles.

"I... They said it wasn’t necessarily because of the accident. I don’t know, they said that your pheromones tried to attack him and he wasn’t capable to fighting them off. The hit from the car j-just set everything in motion and he couldn’t survive it."

Blue couldn’t even hear some of the things that Winter said because of his continuous sniffling, but he was able to pick something out clearly.

"Who’s he?" Blue asked.

At this point, he could hear his heartbeat. He could hear the thumping in his ears. He could feel blood rushing to his brain as it worked faster than ever, putting two and two together.

"Winter Junior," Winter responded quietly.

One second.

Two seconds.

Three seconds.

Four seconds.

Five seconds. That was how long it took for Blue to register Winter’s words in his head. But even with that time, he still couldn’t understand them.

"I don’t understand what you’re saying, Winter. What happened to Winter Junior? What pheromones attacking him? I don’t... I don’t understand you." Blue’s voice decrescendoed with each word.

Even though Blue was saying that he didn’t understand, his eyes had already watered and his hands were trembling furiously. His entire body was quivering.

Winter couldn’t explain. The more he tried to, the more he cried, the more Blue cried without understanding.

"I saw them, I saw them trying. But nothing was happening. They had to take him out before he hurt you. And your pheromones were still out of order. So I had to do it. I had to." Winter said.

"You had to do what?" Blue asked. This time, his tone was ice cold.

"Permanently mark you."

"What did you just say?" Blue didn’t hear Winter’s words as the latter had only mouthed them.

"I didn’t want to do it. I know you wouldn’t have wanted me to. But if I didn’t, the pheromones would have–"

"I asked what you did. I didn’t ask why." Blue cut Winter off.

A panicked expression set on Winter’s face. He was deathly afraid now. Afraid of what Blue would do to him. He didn’t want to repeat himself, but he had to. He had to face the consequences of his actions.

"I gave you a permanent mark." Winter finally said after a beat.

The next second, a sharp sound tore through the hospital room. Winter found his head turned to the other side as one side of his cheeks stinged with immense pain.

"How dare you?" Blue asked Winter, his voice seething with intense hatred.

"I’m sorry. I’m truly sorry. Forgive–"

"You dare ask for forgiveness?" Blue sounded defeated this time. "I’ve told you before. I don’t want a permanent mark. I’ve never wanted one. Yet... you gave it to me."

No, this was not what Winter wanted. The look of betrayal in Blue’s eyes. His initial anger and hatred seemed to have disappeared from his being, to be replaced with pure grief.

It would have been better had Blue been yelling at him or beating him up. But Blue looked like he’d given up on even touching him again.

"You w-wouldn’t have s-survived had I not g-given you one," Winter stammered.

"So what?" Blue slouched his shoulders. "Did I tell you I wanted to survive? Where was my permission in all of this? Why didn’t you let me die?"

"How could I? How could I let you die? Please, don’t say such a thing. I can’t live without you. Please." Winter buried his head on the thin sheets of the bed.

Blue remained unaffected by his miserable display and coldly said, "Get out."

"Please, I’m sorry. I don’t want to be without you. Please, don’t throw me away. I’m sorry. I’m sorry." Winter refused to budge an inch, crying his heart out.

"I don’t want to see your face ever again in my life. Get out of this room." Blue maintained a detached voice.

Winter managed to force himself to look at Blue. There was no trace of love or hatred or bitterness, just plain indifference.

"Don’t let me repeat myself again, Winter. You’ve done what you wanted to do. You took away my child. And you took away my freedom. What more do you want from me?" Blue said.

Winter didn’t dare open his mouth to say, ’your forgiveness’.

"Just get out of my sight," Blue added. Winter still didn’t move.

"GET OUT! GET OUT NOW! I DON’T WANT TO SEE YOU AGAIN! GET OUT!" Blue didn’t hold back with his screaming, even prompting a stream of nurses to flood into the room to check what was going on.

Once they got a grasp of the situation, they forced Winter out of the room and advanced to stabilize Blue who was breathing heavily with his heart racing rapidly.

After the entire ordeal, the nurses were told to never let Winter into Blue’s room for as long as Blue stayed in the hospital.
