Chapter 138: 136 | Highschool Romance

Blue had never been one to show off. Never. He had never cared about being on the spotlight or doing things that would make him the center of attraction.

This was what he thought until Winter gave him a ring. And the first thing he did was to take a picture of it and show it off to the entire world. It was crazy how blissful he felt as dozens of messages and calls came through his phone.

He only acknowledged the important ones, of course. Like Sasha’s call.

"Mom?" Blue spoke softly as soon as he accepted Sasha’s call.

"My baby! Winter proposed?!" It sounded like she was more surprised than anyone else to find out about Winter giving Blue a ring.

"Yes," Blue blushed as he responded.

"Awww, that’s so sweet! Congratulations!" Sasha exclaimed cheerily, Blue nodded his head even though she couldn’t see him.

"Congratulations, Blue. I’m so happy for you," a masculine voice said from the other end of the call.

"Dad, thank you," Blue accepted the wish.

"I never thought that Winter would propose to me," Blue began to open up to Winter’s parents.

In all honesty, though he loved Winter and was happy being with him, there’d always been a small voice in the back of his mind telling him that they wouldn’t last.

Added with the fact that Winter was always tired of him and quick to let him go whenever they fought without holding him back.

Blue had always felt like Winter wouldn’t give him another title other than boyfriend or lover. Winter proposing to him was like, insanely unpredictable.

"Why wouldn’t he? Don’t you know that you’re his favorite person in the whole world?" Sasha said to Blue, almost finding his worries laughable.

"You’re even more special to him than us." There was a hint of sadness in Easton’s tone.

It was sad to see their two favorite boys loving each other more than them. Easton and Sasha had always been afraid of seeing Winter move on without them.

After they met Blue, they had the same fear with him. But it was even more heightened. They’d feared that Blue and Winter would break up one day and that Blue would cut off his relationship with them. Just like the others before him had done.

"I know that now," Blue whispered shyly in response. "But there’s still something that I’m bothered about..."

Easton and Sasha leaned forward to Sasha’s phone that was set on the table in front of them to hear what Blue wanted to say, even though the call was already on loudspeaker and they could hear him just fine.

"I don’t know if I should ask this or if you guys would even tell me–"

"What are you talking about, Blue? Tell us. We’ll answer anything you ask." Easton was quick to soothe Blue’s concern.

Blue hummed in response before he continued speaking.

"I want to know something about Winter. Before me, he must have dated- I mean, been with other people before, right? If it’s too inappropriate, you guys don’t have to answer, but I want to know why and how he broke off his relationship with them."

There, Blue said it. He finally got the curiosity that had been bugging him immensely out of his chest.

Sasha and Easton were silent for a while after hearing Blue’s request. Their prolonged silence made Blue feel awkward.

"It was an inappropriate thing to ask, wasn’t it? I’m sorry for–"

"No, no, no, no, no. Don’t apologize," Sasha stopped Blue, "It’s not really inappropriate. Easton and I understand where you’re coming from and why you’d want to know about this now. We were just thinking about what exactly to tell you."

"I don’t understand," Blue said quietly.

"Well, to answer your question. The both of us don’t really know. Winter has introduced a handful of people to us over the years. It was all spontaneous. He would date one person out of the blue and would suddenly introduce another to us without telling us what happened to the last person,"

"We didn’t really question him about it. We were only happy to see that he had someone in his life. And the other people always ghosted us whenever their relationship with Winter fell off. So we don’t have much attachment with any of them,"

"Not like the kind we have with you. You’re our son now, Blue." Easton explained.

Blue wasn’t satisfied with Easton’s explanation. It all brought him back right where he started with the only two people with knowledge in the loop being Winter and Kendall.

"So, there wasn’t anything awfully special about Winter’s relationship with any of them?" Blue inquired, basically gossiping at this point.

"Special? Like how?" Sasha questioned with the same gossipy tone.

"I don’t know.... Has he proposed to anyone before or done something to make you guys think that he’d settle down with the person he was with?" Blue said, an image of Winter proposing to Kendall suddenly conjured in his head.

"Hmmm... no, he hasn’t. You’re the first person he has proposed to," Easton replied.

"Yeah, but wait... There’s something coming to me now!" Sasha suddenly exclaimed, jumping from her seat.

Easton looked at her with curiosity and asked, "What?"

"What is it?" Blue also asked at the same time.

"There was this guy. Easton, you should remember him. I think it was about six or seven years ago, Winter was probably still in highschool then. This kid always used to come home around with him since they were in the same class,"

"He was the first person Winter was friends with before they started dating. All of a sudden, he just stopped coming over. I asked Winter what happened, and Winter..."

"... yelled at you." Easton completed Sasha’s words.

Blue’s brows furrowed. He was even more confused now.

"Winter had never yelled at me before. But he was so rude to me just because I asked him about Killian or was it Kelvin or–"

"Kendall." Blue said with a tight jaw.

"Yes! That was his name!" Sasha exclaimed.

"How do you know about that, Blue?" Easton asked the obvious question.

"I guessed," Blue lied through his teeth.

Easton and Sasha didn’t suspect that Blue was lying, completely believing in his words.

"So what happened?" Blue pressed for an explanation.

"Oh," Sasha said, "Nothing actually. Winter apologized the day after and told us never to talk about it anymore. And we never did."

Blue felt... odd.

"Is that all?" he asked for further confirmation.

"Yeah. He wasn’t really special. He was just really nice and Winter must have really liked him. I don’t even know why they broke- ow!" Easton received a slap to his forearm as he went on talking about things that he shouldn’t talk about.

Sasha threw him a look.

It was clear that Blue was insecure about something and Easton just went off saying that Winter really liked someone else in the past. Wasn’t that just stabbing Blue’s foot with a knife?? Sasha thought.

"It was really anything. Just some highschool romance. You’re with Winter now. You guys are getting married with a child on the way. There’s nothing to worry about," said Sasha with a casual tone.

However, all Blue could do was worry.

"I know. It’s fine. I just wanted to know." Blue said, his voice miserably low.

"Are you sure?" Sasha could already sense that there was something wrong with Blue.

"Yeah, I am," Blue said dismissively, "Anyways, I’m feeling a bit sleepy now, so I’ll talk to you guys later, okay?"

"Okay," Easton spoke for himself and his wife.

The good-bye exchanged after that was not very cheerful. Once they terminated the call from their end, Blue threw away his phone and covered his face with his palms.

"Fuck..." Blue sighed.

What he was feeling right now... was it jealousy? Even if it was, he had no reason to be jealous. Winter said he loved him. Winter gave him a ring. Winter was the father of the child in his stomach. Winter wanted to spend the rest of his life with him.

So why would he be fucking jealous of Kendall who was probably Winter’s past fling?

Why couldn’t he stop thinking about Winter’s trembling hand when he saw Kendall? Blue tried to push all the negative thoughts away since they were doing him no good.

He couldn’t be stressed about it because of his child, but still... That lingering feeling of fear that sat in the pit of Blue’s heart was too big to be ignored.

Meanwhile, the cause of that fear was busy doing something that he wasn’t supposed to be doing.

Winter was at home. He was shirtless and sitting down on his bed with a laptop in front of him.

The screen of the laptop displayed a large image of Kendall’s face.

Author has something to say:

(Mini theater):

Winter Junior: Why is there always something up with my parents? Can’t they just be happy and in love??

Author: I know, right?
