Chapter 989: 016 Indirect Confession_5
Avery Graham thought, Bernard Taylor was only somewhat familiar with Bryan Hawkins, so why in the world did Celia Wade and Ryan Parker invite him to dinner? It really can’t be helped; she had finally managed to forget last night’s dream, but upon seeing Bernard Taylor, that dream shockingly became vivid again. In front of Bernard, she felt utterly shameless.
"You’re blushing just like this; in the past, I remember you weren’t so thin-skinned," Carolline Ruiz purposely teased at this moment.
"..." You stinker, Carolline Ruiz, Avery cursed in her heart before raising her eyebrows, clenching her fist, and pretending it was a microphone, "Hey, pregnant lady, I want to interview you. Tell us about how it feels to get pregnant on your honeymoon and then being forced to cut the trip short."
Carolline Ruiz was taken aback while Celia Wade and Mia Parker started laughing.
"Hey, hey, hey, Avery, no bullying my wife, or I’ll have Bernard sort you out," Bryan Hawkins quickly protected his wife to the admiring tsk-tsks of everyone.
"...What’s that got to do with him?" Avery muttered her defense quietly, her face once again reddening uncontrollably.
The volume of her protest was low and coupled with her flushed face, her defense suddenly seemed to lack confidence.
"You had bad judgement, were blind to people’s true nature, and could not discern their character. You should listen to Bernard Taylor’s opinions more in the future; you guys were partners before, so no need for politeness." They had all heard about the Michael Auclair incident.
It was when they were having dinner with just Bernard Taylor that he told Carolline Ruiz about it, and since Carolline knew some of it, when she asked Bernard, he did not hide the truth.
Carolline Ruiz originally wanted to teach Michael Auclair a lesson for Avery’s sake, but Bryan Hawkins stopped her, allowing Bernard to handle it in his own way.
Had it not been for that, with her protective nature towards friends, would Michael Auclair’s days have been so peaceful?
"..." Avery felt completely worthless after being reprimanded by Bryan Hawkins.
Forget it. Wasn’t this meal hosted by Celia Wade and Ryan Parker? Why did it feel like it turned into her criticism session? Fortunately, Celia Wade and Mia Parker later shifted the topic, bringing her ordeal to a close.
After the meal, Mia Parker left with her colleague and partner, Ben Parker. Carolline Ruiz naturally went with Bryan Hawkins, and as Carolline Ruiz was the pregnant lady, Bryan Hawkins didn’t drink wine. Later on, Avery came to understand that Bernard Taylor was there to drink on behalf of Bryan Hawkins and Ryan Parker.
Since everyone had company, the task of escorting the wine-drinking Bernard Taylor fell on her.
Avery didn’t really mind taking him; it was just that she felt a bit guilty about not answering his call in the afternoon. She truly hadn’t expected to run into him at Celia Wade and Ryan Parker’s dinner.
Bernard Taylor had drunk quite a bit, and since they were all friends and Bryan Hawkins couldn’t drink, Bernard took up the responsibility of drinking with them. Luckily, none of them were heavy drinkers, but because they were friends and chatted away, he ended up drinking a bit too much, which went to his head, though he was not drunk.
Bernard Taylor walked straight enough as he followed Avery to the parking lot to pick up her car, still able to walk in a straight line, but the iron rule of not driving after drinking is one they firmly adhered to.
Before getting into the car, Avery asked worriedly, "Are you going to feel like throwing up later?"
If he was going to vomit, it would be best to do it now. Her car might not be expensive, but she cherished it, so she definitely didn’t want any vomit in her car.
"Don’t worry, I’m not drunk," Bernard Taylor assured her with a smile, shaking his head. The girl, always dwelling on the minor issues.
She didn’t even ask if he was feeling bad or anything else. All she cared about was her beloved car. As selfish as she was, he didn’t mind at all. In fact, he found her rather adorable.
Alright, he had to admit, around Avery Graham, he was habitually masochistic, just like before when she acted as his nurse. Even though she was often yelled at by him, it was mostly in the Operation Room. Outside, she wasn’t noisy or troublesome, yet she managed to torment him thoroughly.
"Good that you’re not drunk. Then, why don’t you take a taxi back by yourself?" Avery suggested.
"..." Bernard Taylor’s face instantly fell. Just yesterday, he had felt that their relationship was moving in a positive direction, and today she didn’t even want to drive him back. She didn’t even answer his call that afternoon; he just wanted to ask her to pick him up from his office, yet she ignored his calls.
