Chapter 987: 016 Indirect Confession_3

Avery Graham was basically escorted onto the car by Bernard Taylor. Only after getting in did Avery complain, "I won’t speak for them, so why are you being so rough?"

Her arm was sore from the pinch, Avery rubbed the spot that Bernard Taylor’s large hand had gripped just now.

"Does it hurt? Let me take a look," said Bernard Taylor as he leaned in and reached to roll up Avery’s sleeve to check if her skin was red. He knew her skin was sensitive; a little force from a pinch or grip, and it would easily redden, which everyone in their department knew. Whether male or female, no one would play rough with her.

Just now, he might have been too angry, so he hadn’t been mindful of his strength.

Seeing his seriousness, Avery suddenly laughed, "I was just teasing you because you looked so serious."

"..." Bernard Taylor froze, his outstretched hand hovering in mid-air before suddenly changing direction, hooking her nose. Then, Avery’s face turned red, slowly spreading to her earlobes.

Their movements seemed too intimate.

The air between them grew still, and when Avery looked up at Bernard Taylor, she saw his gaze was intense and affectionate. At that moment, she felt she could truly see the feelings he had for her, feelings she had always been overlooking.

Her heart fluttered. Because of her silence, Bernard Taylor started to make restless movements. Ever since Violet Orson’s disappearance, he had never approached another woman. Many suspected something was wrong with both his body and mind. He had even doubted himself for a while, thinking he really might be ill. During that time, he felt it ironic how his mother, who had torn him apart from Violet Orson, believed to have saved her son, only to end up with a man who wasn’t normal.

However, after meeting Avery Graham, this woman made him, inexplicably, want to get closer as time went by. She was the only one who evoked such an urge in him after everything with Violet Orson.

"Cough, cough, cough..." Just as Bernard Taylor moved closer, Avery’s throat unexpectedly itched, and she couldn’t help but cough.

At that instant, Bernard Taylor regained his composure. He took out a bottle of mineral water, unscrewed it, and handed it to Avery.

Without any pretense, Avery took it and drank a few sips to soothe her throat. She then checked her phone, "It’s getting late, take me back."

"Yeah, okay," Bernard Taylor nodded.

Bernard Taylor dropped her off at the entrance of the residential area. Only after seeing Avery enter did he drive away.

As he left, a slight smile played on his lips. Thinking back on the scene that had just unfolded, he suddenly felt that everything was heading in a better direction.

Any fleeting anger he felt due to Avery not directly refusing Michael Auclair had dissipated just like that.

That night, Avery had some trouble sleeping. Lying in bed, the scene in Bernard Taylor’s car kept replaying in her mind. If she hadn’t started coughing, would he have kissed her?

If Bernard Taylor had really kissed her, what would she have done? Push him away, or...

Avery shook her head, telling herself not to think about it. It was at that moment she realized she didn’t know what she would have done.

In the latter part of the night, Avery finally drifted into a restless sleep. Even in her dreams, things were a mess, as she dreamt that she and Bernard Taylor had done everything.

Waking up the next day, Avery ruefully tousled her already messy hair and mentally slapped herself for letting her thoughts run wild all night, leaving her feeling dizzy.

As she wallowed in her moodiness, she received a text from Carolline Ruiz asking her to keep the evening free, Celia Wade had returned, and they were all supposed to meet for dinner.

That was good news. Avery knew about Celia’s situation: the girl had been lucky since Carolline’s wedding.

Chatting with Celia, Avery had learned the basics. Jordy Wade had woken up on the day of Carolline’s wedding. They thought Celia had finally reached the end of her hardships, but then, it turned out Jordy had lost his memory.

He had forgotten about Celia. Avery even thought that if that happened to her, she would collapse, Celia was truly strong, and that is why Avery had liked her so much before.
