Chapter 986: 016 Indirect Confession_2
Men have their flaws, and if he had controlled his shortcomings, things between Avery and him wouldn’t have ended up like this. Avery’s friends could have all been an assistance to him in the future, and now he deeply regretted his inability to control his own desires.
When Michael Auclair drove to the Emperory that Adelle Turner had mentioned, Avery Graham and Bernard Taylor had just finished their meal. He rushed over to Adelle’s side, and before he could say anything, he saw Avery and Bernard walking out.
Adelle had already become blacklisted, so in this still chilly season, she stood outside in the cold wind, waiting for Michael Auclair while the friends she had brought before had long since left.
Before leaving, they had warned her not to mingle with such an irritable girl, or it would lead to serious trouble one day. Adelle didn’t want to be involved with Jollie Auclair either, but since she fancied Jollie’s Big Brother, in order to win Michael Auclair’s favor, she had to take good care of Jollie, even though she didn’t like her.
"Avery and the others have arrived, go and beg her to see what she can do," Adelle said to Michael Auclair, simulating concern for Jollie while clinging tightly to Michael as Avery glanced in their direction.
Avery was a bit surprised to see Michael Auclair in that moment—it really was a brother-sister bond. The sister had just gotten into trouble, and here the Big Brother had appeared.
Michael Auclair walked toward them, with Adelle following closely behind.
Avery stood there with Bernard Taylor by her side. Michael didn’t look at Bernard but spoke directly to Avery, "Avery, I’m sorry. I’ve just found out what Jollie did to you. I’ve failed as an older brother to keep an eye on her, and I apologize to you on her behalf. Please be the bigger person and let her go."
Although Jollie Auclair was a girl, she had never faced such humiliation in the Auclair Family.
Today, she was suddenly taken to the Police Station. Knowing her as he did, Michael Auclair understood that she must be very scared. Although she might seem strong-willed and brave, that was only the case when she had someone to support her. Without anyone, she would be immensely cowardly when faced with real trouble.
For years, she had thrown her weight around in their small town, but this was the first time she had crossed the line in G City. She had really underestimated Avery Graham.
"..." When Avery saw Michael Auclair apologizing and asking her to get Jollie out, she was amazed that he actually thought the Police Station belonged to the Grahams and that she could send people in and out at her whim. Avery pursed her lips and said, "Asking me is no use; you should go to the City District Police Station and ask them."
This was like ordinary citizens calling the police: once the police took the case, it couldn’t just be immediately dropped because the complainant said so.
Furthermore, the police were not called by Avery and Michael Auclair was pleading with the wrong person.
"Mr. Taylor, I..." Michael Auclair immediately understood Avery’s implication. Having been in G City for many years, he knew that unless Bernard Taylor agreed, going to the police station wouldn’t make any difference. So, he had to ask Bernard to forgive Jollie. Only after Taylor spoke with them could he possibly get Jollie out. Otherwise, he could forget about it.
Before he could state his request, Bernard directly said, "Asking me is useless. You should earnestly ask your own sister. Let her think things over in there, whether she wants to apologize and how she should apologize. After that, come find me. That’s all."
Bernard didn’t give Michael an opportunity to plead further with Avery. He took Avery by the arm and walked past Michael and Adelle. Avery didn’t resist, knowing that sometimes there were things even she couldn’t change about Bernard’s stance.
Because she understood early on this aspect of Bernard’s character, later on, the two didn’t have much disagreement about how to raise their kids. Anything Bernard said, she, as a mother, agreed with. Their children had no choice; their mother would always side with their father. As the weakest in the household, they could only sigh helplessly.
Besides, Bernard’s insistence on teaching Jollie Auclair a lesson was for her good, to prevent her from believing she could run wild in G City with the backing of her Big Brother and Adelle. If she ended up provoking someone she shouldn’t, it would likely be more serious than a simple visit to the Police Station.
