Chapter 970: 013 Let’s Cooperate (Second Update)_5
"..." Avery Graham looked at the fast food in her hand. She actually really wanted to eat fast food, but Nancy Sallow was an elder after all, and it would have been really rude to outright refuse her, so she had no choice but to hand her fast food to a chubby master next to her, "Here, Fatty Wang, your lucky day, huh."
Avery Graham’s humor made everyone laugh, including Nancy Sallow, who was standing at the door. Avery thought she even saw a smile on her face. Nancy took good care of herself, but there were still wrinkles around her eyes, which were more noticeable when she smiled.
Forget it, Nancy was Bernard Taylor’s mother. Let bygones be bygones. As long as she showed her a bit more respect now, Avery was willing to let go of the past.
"Auntie, let’s go," Avery walked up to Nancy Sallow, calling her auntie instead of Mrs. Luo.
"I want to drink the coffee from your store; they all say it’s very good. Would you treat me? If not, I’ll just buy a cup for myself," Nancy said, drawn by the aroma of coffee in the store, which she also liked very much.
"Now is lunchtime. Personally, I think it’s better to have coffee after a meal. Of course, I can treat you, but it will have to be after we eat. You’re going to drive me back here later, right? I’m afraid you might ditch me halfway," Avery spoke as straightforwardly as ever.
Nancy Sallow laughed and nodded her head.
In fact, to truly understand what someone is like, you have to observe them with your heart. Avery really was quite adorable.
Avery and Nancy Sallow both took a seat in the back of the car, and the driver took them to a restaurant. Since Nancy was looking forward to having the coffee from Avery’s store, she did not order a separate coffee.
Avery did not order either, but just asked for a glass of soda water.
Their interaction that day was quite harmonious; at least, after Avery finished her meal, Nancy did not show any malice towards her.
After the meal, the waiter cleared their utensils and brought them a pot of flower tea.
Avery poured a cup for Nancy Sallow first and then for herself. "Auntie, this restaurant’s flower tea also tastes good; you can try this first."
"Mm," Nancy Sallow nodded compliantly. "Avery, may I call you that?"
"...Yes," Avery nodded, not seeing any malice on Nancy Sallow’s face, which allowed her to relax a lot. She had thought that Nancy’s appearance might be because Bernard had come to find her that morning.
"..." Nancy Sallow laughed, a genuine laugh without any pretense.
Avery was genuinely surprised. Could it be that after this year she had gotten lucky? Or perhaps since she was abandoned by Michael Auclair, even heaven pitied her, causing everyone around her to be so kind to her, Nancy Sallow included.
"I was wrong in the past, Avery. Please bear with me. As one gets older, they become like children, saying things without thinking. Don’t take it to heart," Nancy apologized sincerely first.
"No... it’s nothing. I can understand. You were just deeply concerned," Avery nodded. She knew everything Nancy had done previously was for the sake of Bernard.
But even so, she still did not quite understand why Nancy had come to find her today. Surely it wasn’t to get her back together with Bernard?
She had just ended a relationship, and she truly had not considered entering another one so quickly, even though she and Bernard were very familiar with each other; she had yet to seriously consider anything more than friendship with him.
"Avery, you really are a considerate person. No wonder Bernard likes you so much," Nancy Sallow said with a smile, realizing that her son’s choice was far better than her own shallow judgments. People say that spouses are each other’s soulmates. To last, a couple needs a soulful connection, but what she saw were insignificant exteriors.
She truly was not a qualified mother.
Listening to Nancy Sallow, Avery suddenly blushed, her heart beating rapidly. She did not know why she was feeling like this.
"Actually, I came here today to talk to you about Bernard’s past. If you’re not busy, of course. If you’re worried about the store, we can do this another time," Nancy Sallow showed considerable respect for Avery.
Avery was momentarily stunned before saying, "It’s fine, Auntie. Go ahead. I don’t need to be at the store until four in the afternoon."
Carolline Ruiz had also told her about Bernard’s past; he was a man with a story, but back then she had not paid much attention. Now, she suddenly wanted to know, especially since it was coming directly from Nancy Sallow.
