Chapter 965: 012 Blurted Out_5
Adelle: "..."
Adelle had never expected Michael’s mother to be such a forceful woman. In her mind, she always thought that rural women had no say of their own, always heeding their husbands and sons, but Michael’s mother was an exception.
That moment had left her utterly shocked.
"Mom, you can’t be so unreasonable," Jollie Auclair said as she looked at Adelle, who was almost at a loss for words. She hurriedly spoke up for Adelle; she relied on her to settle down in G City. She couldn’t let her mother completely alienate Adelle.
However, Michael’s mother turned around and slapped her daughter. "And you, either leave with me now and go home with me tomorrow, or stay in this glitzy city, and never come back. I don’t need a daughter like you."
Her mother’s actions, and the public slap, had completely stripped Jollie Auclair of her dignity. Her eyes were red and puffy with grievance, but Michael’s mother turned a blind eye to it.
Aside from Jollie Auclair and Adelle, those who were also shocked by Michael’s mother’s actions were Avery Graham and Giselle Browman.
Michael’s mother then approached Avery Graham and Giselle Browman, "Avery, I’m sorry, I didn’t raise my son and daughter well, causing you to suffer. I’m not fortunate enough to have you as my daughter-in-law; it’s my loss. I’m sorry once again."
"Auntie, please, don’t..." Avery Graham was quite moved. From the moment Michael Auclair broke up with her until now, it was this moment that touched her the most.
After Michael’s mother finished speaking, she left. The words that Avery Graham wanted to say were swallowed back down.
Seeing his mother leave, Michael Auclair paused for a moment before chasing after her.
Jollie Auclair, however, still hadn’t recovered from the shock. By the time she came to her senses, she didn’t think of chasing after her mother; instead, she glared at Avery Graham and Giselle Browman resentfully. "Are you two happy now?"
"Auntie has a daughter like you; really, she’s hit the jackpot of bad luck," Giselle Browman said outright, sarcastically.
Avery Graham likewise felt this deeply but didn’t say much more. If Michael Auclair hadn’t broken up with her, she would have followed his mother out, but now, she was nothing; she had no right to chase after anyone.
In the end, Avery Graham and Giselle Browman sat down and ordered the food they wanted to eat.
Meanwhile, Adelle and Jollie Auclair were sitting together, chatting away quite smoothly.
"This woman, her mother has walked away, and she still has the appetite to sit down and eat; truly the biggest oddity I’ve ever seen," Giselle Browman said, unable to hold back.
"Enough, that’s someone else’s family matter," Avery Graham had no interest in meddling with other people’s domestic affairs.
"True, thankfully you didn’t become a part of that family. With a sister-in-law like that, it could drive anyone insane," Giselle Browman nodded in agreement, glad that Avery Graham had realized it was none of her business. She was quite pleased.
After eating, the two women left. As they were leaving, Jollie Auclair and Adelle were still talking and occasionally laughing. Avery Graham shook her head; Jollie Auclair really had no shame.
But after all, that was their family issue and had nothing to do with her anymore.
Once back home, Giselle Browman thought it over and decided not to go to work the next day. She also didn’t immediately call Bernard Taylor, wanting to take a good rest for a while.
The two sisters enjoyed their days together. During these days, Avery Graham hadn’t actively called Bernard Taylor, and he hadn’t called her either, probably still unaware that she knew everything by now.
Avery Graham didn’t know how to talk about the issue with Bernard Taylor. Giselle Browman was anxious for two days, afraid that Bernard Taylor would call seeking an explanation. Not receiving a call from him, her mood relaxed considerably.
Soon, the fifteenth arrived, and Avery’s mother returned home; the two went back to the Graham’s for dinner.
Avery’s mother had bought a lot of things and, seeing only the two sisters had come back, she asked in surprise, "Why didn’t Michael come?"
Avery’s mother still didn’t know about Avery Graham’s breakup with Michael Auclair.
"Auntie, my sister and that bastard Michael Auclair broke up." Avery hadn’t even spoken yet when Giselle Browman just blurted it out on Avery’s behalf.
"Broke up? What bastard? What’s this all about? Since when did Michael become a bastard?" Avery’s mother was still a bit confused; she stopped what she was doing and just stood there asking.
Giselle Browman then recounted the story of Michael and Adelle Turner—90% facts with 10% emotional color. After hearing this, Avery’s father was so angry that he ground his teeth, "What? Michael is such a rotter?"
"Exactly, Uncle. I didn’t see it at the beginning, but I’ve resigned. Working under him made me sick," Giselle said indignantly.
"Is it really true? I just don’t feel like Michael is that kind of person?" Avery’s mother still tried to defend Michael, mainly because they had introduced Michael to friends and family not long ago. How could the couple have ended so quickly?
It seemed completely unreasonable, and besides, she couldn’t believe that Michael was capable of such actions.
"Of course it’s true, there’s even a video. I saw it with my own eyes," Giselle shouted. How could Auntie not believe her? No wonder Avery felt so suffocated; this Auntie was really unbearable at times.
"You saw a video?" Even Avery could scarcely believe it; Bernard Taylor had a video in his possession—this man...
"Uh, yeah, someone happened to record it, and it even got sent to our work computers. The staff and leaders at the company all know," Giselle explained, since this matter was indeed fact.
...Avery’s mother was finally convinced. How could she not be?
The issue had even spread to their company.
"If it’s over, it’s over—there’s no big deal. Our Avery will definitely meet a better man. And another thing, don’t ever force Avery into blind dates again. Look at what happened; she brought home such a scoundrel. You even treasured him like a gem, only you could consider such scum a treasure," Avery’s father immediately chided Avery’s mother.
Avery’s mother had no choice but to swallow her words. On this fifteenth, Avery felt relieved. With her father’s support, she thought her upcoming days might be a lot calmer.
Indeed, after the store opened the next day, Avery’s routine became regular again. Michael didn’t disturb her, and she didn’t care about the Auclair Family’s affairs anymore. After all, it was none of her concern now.
On the first day back to work after the New Year, she handed out money, and that day the business was exceptionally good. Many customers said they had been waiting for her reopening so eagerly that even the flowers had wilted.
Avery was very happy, and when she was happy, she gave significant discounts. With the discounts, even more customers came.
The chefs were overwhelmed with work in the kitchen, but since business was booming, everyone was thrilled; their biggest fear was that their creations wouldn’t be appreciated.
Avery busied herself selling bread, and Giselle Browman also came to help.
Bernard Taylor knew that Avery’s Cake Shop was opening today, so he skipped breakfast, planning to buy some bread and coffee for it. However, when he got out of his car, he saw a huge crowd already lining up.
This great business on the first day after New Year’s suggested that it might be possible for the girl to open a second branch.
Today, besides buying bread and coffee, he had another little business matter to discuss with her—the prospect of franchising Lala Cake Shop. He was actually quite interested in investing, not in the name of the Taylor Family, but in his personal capacity.
