Chapter 943: 008 Good get-togethers, good break-ups_2
"Yeah, don’t worry, since we’re family, we’re definitely in this together. As for invitations from outsiders, none of us are interested," Giselle Browman glanced sideways at Adelle Turner, who didn’t retaliate, but she knew that Adelle was fuming.
She was happy to see her angry, wasn’t that same person all smug before? Now it was like the wheel of fortune had turned.
Giselle Browman left with a sense of satisfaction. As soon as she left, Adelle was about to express her discontent when Michael Auclair slammed the desk with such force it echoed, his attitude contrasting starkly with how he had treated Giselle Browman.
Startled by Michael Auclair’s demeanor, Adelle had previously been on the brink of tears, but now real tears streamed down her face. "Mr. Auclair, what do you mean by this? The difference in treatment, does it need to be so obvious?"
"Now you’re complaining at me, are you? Let’s not start with the photos on the company computer. I’m asking you, what exactly are you planning by ordering so much from Lala Cake Shop?" Michael Auclair said indignantly, this woman had better not let him find out that she harbored any ulterior motives, or else, he would make her regret it.
"I...I was just thinking, since you didn’t choose Giselle Browman as the team leader but chose me instead, I thought I should show some gratitude. Your girlfriend happens to own the Cake Shop, right? I genuinely wanted to support her business, as a way of thanking you for your selflessness. I really don’t know where I’ve gone wrong?" Adelle said with her head down, tears falling heavily, trying to gain Michael Auclair’s sympathy by playing the victim.
But this tactic was absolutely useless on Michael Auclair.
To a man, when his heart is invested in a woman, he pays attention to every little expression of hers. But if a man has no place for you in his heart, no matter how much you do, it’s futile for him.
"You’d better just keep such thoughts to yourself, Adelle. Let me tell you, don’t even try to play any tricks in front of me. The moment I find out you have some foolish fantasies, I will make sure you regret it. Remember that," Michael Auclair threatened coldly, "Alright, go back to work."
"..." Watching Michael Auclair threaten her, with the unmistakable coldness on his face, Adelle’s heart suddenly sank to the bottom. But even then, she wasn’t about to let Michael Auclair get his way easily. He really pushed her to the edge. Even if she couldn’t rise to the top, she wouldn’t let him be content with Avery Graham. They would just have to rely on their own abilities then.
With this thought, Adelle left Michael Auclair’s office.
After Adelle left, Michael Auclair made a phone call to have someone investigate who had sent the photos to the company computers that morning.
Later, Michael Auclair received a call from the higher-ups. The incident had made quite an impact and they needed an explanation from him. Michael Auclair, however, having navigated the business world for many years, handled the leaders’ inquiries with ease.
He wasn’t worried about the leadership’s questions and his explanations were clear. The only thing he was concerned about was Avery Graham. That woman was innocent and lacked guile, the perfect choice for a good wife and partner. But at the same time, such a characteristic meant she could be quite stubborn. Once she set her mind on something, not even ten oxen could pull her back, let alone his explanations.
He could confidently deal with the leaders, but with Avery Graham, he had to tread carefully.

On Avery’s side, she hadn’t noticed anything amiss. She was only concerned that Giselle Browman, who’d been promised the team leader position, had been unexpectedly beaten to it by someone else. Avery was worried that Giselle might not handle the disappointment well.
So when Giselle said she wanted to treat her to hot pot that evening, Avery agreed.
That was just like Giselle. Whenever she was upset, she liked to eat away her emotions—whether it was hot pot, barbecue, or just going to the supermarket to buy a lot of snacks to bring home.
Avery had done the same in the past.
So, she had decided to accept Giselle’s invitation but intended to treat her instead and buy her a gift she liked as compensation for her disappointment.
She hadn’t been chosen this time, but she resolved to strive harder next time.
With her plan in place, Avery went to the mall. Giselle had mentioned wanting a new phone because her screen was broken, but she had been reluctant to buy a new one. The girl could be so frugal with herself at times.
