Chapter 940: 007 The exposure of the secret plot_4

Michael Auclair thought about it and agreed with her reasoning. Right now, for him, the most important thing wasn’t to figure out who was behind the photo, but how to appease Giselle Browman and ensure she didn’t tell Avery about the incident.

Having dated Avery for such a long time, he was well aware of her temperament.

If Avery found out about this, their relationship would definitely be over. He had been looking forward to their imminent marriage, even telling himself that he would marry Avery within the year, but now this happened.

"It’s nothing, Giselle didn’t get the team leader position, so she’s a bit down. I went after her to check on her," Michael Auclair quickly explained to Avery Graham before Giselle Browman could say anything.

"..." Giselle Browman also understood what Michael Auclair was worried about. She knew this wasn’t the right time to tell, even if she wanted to say something. She could be willful at times, but she also knew to be rational when it mattered, "Sis, I’m going out for a walk."

"Ah, Giselle—" Avery Graham didn’t know about Giselle not becoming the team leader, but Giselle had mentioned to her that being the team leader was quite stressful. Logically, being passed over should have been a relief.

"Let her go, it’s fine. I’ve approved her leave," Michael Auclair stepped forward, wanting to take her hand, but remembering the photo and the odd looks from the reception staff that morning, he stopped himself, "By the way, Avery, why are you here?"

"Oh, someone from your company named Adelle Turner asked me to deliver some afternoon tea. She said that Giselle recommended her to help with my business. I was planning to reopen after the Sweet Dumpling Festival, but since it was a colleague from your company, I made the effort myself. It’s a big order, she ordered a hundred Egg Tarts and twenty cups of coffee," Avery said excitedly about the order.

It was the first large catering order she had received since her opening, where previously, the most she had earned was a few hundred bucks. Her monthly income was still quite good with a high sales volume.

Of course, she also offered a significant discount.

"Is that so?" Michael Auclair’s smile twisted awkwardly.

As far as he knew, Giselle would never refer Adelle Turner to Avery’s shop—as the two of them didn’t really see eye to eye.

So if this was what Adelle claimed, it could only mean that Adelle was lying. But why would she lie about this?

"Hey, Avery’s here, and so is Mr. Auclair, huh?" Hearing Avery mention her, Adelle Turner realized she couldn’t hide upstairs forever and came down on her own initiative.

"..." Avery was surprised by Adelle’s enthusiasm today, "Miss Turner."

She wasn’t very familiar with Adelle Turner, so she didn’t feel comfortable using her first name.

"Avery, you’re Michael’s girlfriend and Giselle’s cousin. Don’t be so formal with me, just call me by my name," Adelle Turner said with a smile. Noticing Michael Auclair’s poor complexion, she was self-aware, "You two talk; I’ll take this stuff up. Avery, come join us for dinner tonight with Mr. Auclair. It’s my treat."

"Oh." Avery nodded and belatedly noticed the troubled look on Michael’s face. She didn’t engage in further conversation with Adelle, just watched as she placed two cups of coffee and two boxes of Egg Tarts at the reception and then went upstairs with the rest.

"What’s wrong?" Seeing that Michael Auclair hadn’t moved for a while, Avery teased him with a smile, "Do you have a grudge against her? You looked so resentful. But after all, she placed an order at my place for over a thousand bucks."

Avery was indeed grateful to Adelle.

"..." Michael Auclair didn’t quite know what to say, feeling that in some respects, his Avery was just too naive, "No, it’s nothing. Giselle had an unpleasant encounter with her before, and you mentioned that Giselle recommended her to your store, so I’m just wondering, why would that woman lie to you?"

Michael Auclair said this to diminish Avery’s good impression of Adelle.

"Really?" Avery frowned, wondering why the woman would say that.

"..." Giselle Browman, having witnessed the entire scene upon returning, was furious. Had she not controlled herself and thought more about her cousin’s well-being, she would’ve confronted Adelle with the truth. She didn’t want to make a scene, not because she feared her, but because she didn’t want Avery to be hurt, "Sis, weren’t you going to wait until after the Sweet Dumpling Festival to reopen? Why did you come to deliver goods now?"
