Chapter 937: 007 The exposure of the secret plot

The next day, Avery Graham arrived at the Cake Shop bright and early at seven o’clock to clean. Before the New Year, she had asked the staff to rest until the fifteenth, so she was just there to check in, as there wasn’t much else to do.

After she finished cleaning the shop, she planned to visit the two pregnant women. Carolline Ruiz had come back early too, and she wanted to visit them as well, trying to bask in their happiness—after all, Carolline was now the happiest woman alive.

By the time Avery had finished cleaning, it was almost noon. Visiting people at that hour would make it seem like she was there to scrounge for a meal, so she decided to settle her own lunch first.

That’s the thing about running one’s own business—it requires diligence. Many shops had already opened for business, and it was rare to start after the big holiday like she did. Yet, she liked to spoil her staff a little more, offering them additional welfare as long as they worked diligently.

Adelle Turner happened to drop by Avery’s Cake Shop at lunchtime, taking a chance to see if it was open. She had not expected to find Avery still there.

"Hello, our Cake Shop hasn’t opened for business yet. We’ll open after the holiday. Please come back another day, I’m sorry," Avery said, thinking Adelle was there to buy cakes. After all, like before, she had encountered several clients who had come in asking if there were cakes and coffee available, and she had regretfully informed them there were none.

"Oh, no worries, I heard from my colleague that your cakes and coffee are quite good, and I was hoping to buy some afternoon tea to take back for them." Adelle said with a smile, shaking her head. She just wanted to chat more with Avery and take a good look at her, curious about what charm this woman had that made Michael Auclair so devoted. "You really do provide good welfare for your staff."

"They work hard all year and don’t get much in the way of holidays, so I let them spend a good New Year with their families. I’d have something for you today if I wasn’t busy. Otherwise, I could make you some Egg Tarts and coffee. How about you come tomorrow, and I can prepare some afternoon tea for you?" Avery wasn’t the type to turn away business, especially since the client represented a company, which indicated a substantial need might be there.

"Sure, give me your business card, and I’ll book for tomorrow. I’ll come around the same time to pick it up, how does that sound?" Adelle nodded, liking the idea.

Tomorrow was also the perfect day to announce the good news of her promotion to Team Leader, and it seemed appropriate to buy some afternoon treats for them to enjoy.

"Sure, that’s fine. Just leave me your name and contact information," Avery nodded and pulled out a business card to give to Adelle.

With that, Adelle got Avery’s phone number, and she couldn’t help but take another look at Avery—this girl was indeed without guile.

"Okay, I’ll leave it." Adelle pursed her lips and left her own name and phone number.

"Alright, I’ve got it. I can only provide Egg Tarts and coffee for now. How much do you need?" Avery asked politely, as she was on her own and could only offer these simple items for the time being.

"Let’s start with a hundred Egg Tarts and twenty cups of coffee," Adelle didn’t plan to treat the whole company, just their team and those in Michael Auclair’s office room.

"Oh, okay, that’ll be..." Avery began, intending to ask for a prepayment since she had never dealt with this woman before, and she wanted a down payment on the first transaction. Once someone became a regular client, that wouldn’t be necessary.

"Hehe, I know, you want me to pay a deposit, right? No problem, there’s no need for a deposit, I’ll pay in full. You tell me the total, and I’ll pay in cash. You come highly recommended by a great colleague of mine, so I trust you entirely," Adelle chuckled and reached for her wallet to pay.

"How could I accept that? It’s not proper. Just give half upfront," Avery quickly shook her head, it wasn’t right to pay the whole amount when nothing had been made yet.

"Don’t worry about it. Just take it, consider it a way to start a friendship. The colleague who referred me is from your company, Giselle Browman," Adelle deliberately mentioned this. She had taken Giselle’s Team Leader position and felt somewhat apologetic, though Giselle didn’t know why she lost her position. Adelle wasn’t entirely heartless.

"Since it was Giselle who referred you, I should definitely not accept the full amount. So you are from Giselle’s company?" Avery exclaimed in surprise, pleased to know that Giselle had sent her business her way.
