Chapter 929: 005 Parents approve, younger aunt causes difficulties_6
"Mom, why are there two sets of chopsticks today?" Jollie Auclair looked at the two sets of chopsticks in front of her, not quite used to it.
"One set is for eating, the other for serving food. No more nonsense," Mother Auclair glared at her daughter.
Then Jollie Auclair got it. She glanced at Avery Graham, ultimately not saying anything because her big brother hadn’t said a word—apparently, it had been agreed upon beforehand.
Was Avery Graham really that particular? But from the conversation they just had in her room, she couldn’t feel that Avery’s background was any more noble than theirs.
But since Mother Auclair insisted on doing this, there wasn’t much she could do, especially since even Dad hadn’t said anything, right?
Mother Auclair used the serving chopsticks to give Avery lots of dishes, then served herself with the same chopsticks. Putting down the serving chopsticks and eating with her own was quite the effort.
Avery didn’t care for such formalities. She couldn’t help but speak up, "Auntie, Uncle, I’m really not that fastidious. How you usually eat is how we should eat today, is that okay?"
"Old lady, look what I was saying, I just knew it, the wife Michael found would definitely be different from someone else’s," Father Auclair said happily, accustomed to using just one pair of chopsticks, now suddenly having to use two, he had no idea how to manage and was sure to mess up eventually, forgetting mid-use.
"That’s because Avery isn’t picky. Look at you," Mother Auclair chuckled, then turned to Avery, "Avery, I just thought it would be more hygienic this way. Of course, if you’re not comfortable with it, then we’ll stick to using one pair of chopsticks."
"Mm-hmm." Avery nodded.
The whole family laughed.
"Brother, this afternoon I’m going shopping at the Department Store with Sister Avery, do you want to drive us there?" Once the chopstick incident had passed, Jollie Auclair mentioned the afternoon plan.
"We’re eating now, no talking about this afternoon’s plans. Your brother has driven for half a day already, and Avery is surely tired from riding in the car too, they both need a good rest, so no going anywhere," Mother Auclair immediately refused.
"Mom, Sister Avery has already promised me, and you can’t meddle in this," Jollie began to act stubborn. In truth, Avery hadn’t promised her; it had just been Jollie saying so on her own.
"Hey, you—" Mother Auclair wanted to say more, but Michael stopped her, "Alright, Mom, let’s just go for a stroll. We won’t be home for many days before we leave, so, this afternoon we should also take Avery out to have a look around."
"Ah, well then, that’s fine," Mother Auclair nodded.
Avery didn’t say anything—as it happened, a walk sounded quite nice. She just needed a bit of a nap after lunch.
After lunch, Avery slept for a half hour nap, finding herself rather exhausted from waking up too early in the morning. During this half hour, Jollie was quite impatient, complaining several times in front of Michael.
Michael didn’t pay her any mind, chatting and drinking tea with their father, patiently waiting for Avery to wake up naturally.
Jollie, bored in the living room, was aware that both her parents and Big Brother had firmly warned her to keep absolutely quiet and not to make a sound that could wake Avery.
Jollie certainly didn’t dare make noise. With her brother being so capable and his partner being their parents’ treasure, she, a mere girl, counted for nothing.
Moreover, their family favored boys over girls. Would she have been able to repeat three years without her big brother’s support?
So naturally, she didn’t dare wake Avery, and could only complain to her brother, "Big Brother, how come you’re wide awake when you woke up early in the morning, and she can sleep so much?"
"Sleeping well is good. I think Avery has a lucky aura and will surely give you a big, chubby boy in the future," Mother Auclair brought over water for the two men and overheard Jollie’s complaint.
"?" Jollie was at a loss for words. What did this have to do with that? They had just met, and already the conversation turned to a great-grandson. Her mother was indeed thinking far ahead.
"Whether it’s a boy or a girl, as long as it’s Avery’s, I’ll be happy," Michael, who was after all educated and had lived in a big city for a long time, naturally didn’t adhere to gender preferences.
Father Auclair exchanged a look with Mother Auclair; they didn’t say much at the moment. In their hearts, they had only one son, Michael, and naturally hoped that Michael’s wife would give them a big, chubby grandson.
However, now didn’t seem the best time to talk about it.
Avery woke up at two and then the three of them headed out the door.
