Chapter 928: 005 Parents approve, younger aunt causes difficulties_5
Such values aren’t too good for girls.
"Sister Avery, I feel like you’re not telling me the truth, but it’s okay, it’s quite normal. After all, I’m not yet your sister-in-law. Once you marry my brother, we’ll truly be a family, right?" Jollie Auclair said with a smile, but her smile didn’t warm Avery Graham.
"..." Avery simply looked at her, momentarily unsure what Jollie meant by her words, but she had a point. Even if they became family, Avery wasn’t sure she would share all her personal matters with Michael Auclair, let alone with his little sister.
"Sister Avery, can I try on the clothes you bought for me now?" Jollie asked, seeing that Avery remained silent, but without taking it to heart. She picked up one of the several shopping bags that Avery had handed to her.
Inside, there were sweaters, coats, jeans, and a pair of over-the-knee boots, all brightly colored and beautiful.
Though not from any high-end brands, they were nevertheless branded, and the whole set wasn’t cheap.
"Yeah, go ahead and try them on. I want to see if my taste is any good?" Avery nodded. She always had a good eye for fashion, and as long as the size Michael mentioned was correct, they should fit perfectly.
Jollie didn’t hesitate and undressed in front of Avery, leaving only her undershirt on. Then she pulled on the sweater, the coat, the jeans, and put on the boots. The size was just right. Jollie stepped in front of the mirror, absolutely astonished by the reflection.
Was that mature and captivating woman really her? The clothes bought from the big mall were even better than the finest ones available at their town’s Department Store.
When worn, they transformed her appearance completely. Indeed, clothes make the man—or woman.
"I think they look quite nice. Jollie, do you like them?" While her fondness had lessened considerably, Avery hadn’t expected to have a falling out with her future sister-in-law on their first visit.
Differences in values could be addressed slowly over time.
It wasn’t too big of a problem.
"Yes, I really like them, Sister Avery. Your taste is excellent." Jollie was ecstatic. Wearing these to class, even the class belle would be ashamed.
"Great, as long as you like them. Let’s go out then; we’ve been inside for a while." Avery nodded. She didn’t really want to stay alone with Jollie in the room for much longer.
"Okay, I’ll wear this outfit out. After lunch, Sister Avery, I’ll show you our Department Store, but I assure you even the best they have doesn’t compare to this outfit you’ve bought me." Jollie had forgotten the earlier slight unpleasantness and eagerly took Avery’s hand again.
Avery found Jollie’s enthusiasm somewhat overwhelming.
As they opened the door, Michael Auclair was just standing at the doorway, his hand raised, about to knock. "My dad’s back, I came up to call you guys down for lunch."
"Okay." Avery nodded and subtly extricated herself from Jollie’s grasp, reaching out to hold Michael Auclair’s hand instead.
Michael naturally took her hand, and Jollie, understanding the situation, hopped down the stairs first. Michael, following behind, shook his head helplessly, "Jollie, be careful. You’re wearing high heels; don’t twist your ankle."
"Got it," Jollie replied and stopped hopping, walking with propriety.
She knew that women in G City didn’t hop about as she did. Besides improving her grades, she needed to change some of her rougher behaviors. Becoming a white-collar beauty was her ultimate dream.
During the meal, Avery felt the warmth of Michael’s mother, who kept piling delicious dishes into her bowl. She also noticed that, possibly due to Avery’s visit, Michael’s mother had provided two sets of chopsticks for everyone—one for personal use and one public pair.
This was a practice Michael’s mother had learned from another family, where the son had married a girl from a big city. The daughter-in-law was very particular; she insisted on having her own bowl and chopsticks, and didn’t allow others to use chopsticks they had put in their mouths to pick up communal food.
The family felt rather stifled by having such a fussy daughter-in-law, but what could they do when their son was not very capable and yet fond of the girl? Over time, they got used to her ways.
