Chapter 921: 004 Officially Visiting_4
"Where would you like to eat? Today I’m treating, our boss gave me a hefty money yesterday," Michael Auclair said with a pleasing look, "Also, how much did you buy today? I’ll reimburse you later. It shouldn’t be the case where I’m visiting your family and you have to prepare everything for me."
"In the future, what’s mine is yours, and what’s yours is mine," Avery Graham said earnestly. She truly hadn’t thought about quarreling over such things with him. Since they were going to live together, it really wasn’t necessary to be so calculating between them.
"Mmm, I like that sentence you just said," Michael Auclair nodded, "However, speaking of which, it is indeed my responsibility to pay for those items as a matter of etiquette. Otherwise, it would seem quite insincere, wouldn’t it?"
"...Okay then," Avery Graham didn’t insist.
She drove to a Chinese Restaurant, as since they’d both drunk quite a lot of wine the previous night, it was best not to eat anything messy. A Main Course and some rice would help sober them up.
After entering, they ordered four dishes and a soup. Just as they started eating, Giselle Browman woke up and called Avery Graham on her phone. Avery took the call and gave her the address, telling her to take a taxi over, and they would wait for her.
Giselle Browman agreed and arrived half an hour later.
Michael Auclair ordered two more dishes for Giselle Browman, who picked up her bowl and devoured the food like a starving ghost reincarnated, shoveling it into her mouth without any concern for appearances. This unabashed manner made Avery Graham shake her head in helpless resignation.
Avery had seen many people with hangovers, but this was the first time she had seen someone with a hangover eat like a starving ghost—and this person was her own cousin, which was embarrassingly shameful to say.
Michael Auclair paid the bill, and after lunch, Giselle Browman went home to pack. The streets were somewhat deserted, likely because many companies hadn’t gone on holiday yet.
It was only around four or five o’clock when vendors slowly began to set up their stalls.
Michael Auclair bought some fireworks, planning to set them off after the Spring Festival Gala in the evening.
At five thirty, Michael Auclair arrived at the door, laden with generous gifts, to formally visit.
When they reached the Graham Family home, Mr. Graham was drinking tea in the living room while Mrs. Graham was busy in the Kitchen, preparing lots of ingredients. Some dishes were already made, and she was currently busy making dumplings.
Mr. Graham, hearing the sound of the keys in the door, knew it was Avery coming back. Since yesterday, Mrs. Graham had been fussing in his ear about their daughter bringing Michael Auclair home for a formal visit today.
Michael Auclair had visited two or three times before, but it was always by chance, and Mrs. Graham would invite him in for water or whatnot. Today’s visit was formal, so Mrs. Graham went to the market early to buy groceries.
Today was also New Year’s Eve. In the past, they would have prepared to return to the old house during the day.
Today, since Michael Auclair was coming over for the New Year’s Eve dinner, Mrs. Graham had gone to the marketplace early to buy groceries, including chicken, duck, fish, meat, and even dumpling wrappers.
All these years they had been married, it had been a long time since he had enjoyed the dumplings made by his wife’s hands. This time, he really benefited from the future son-in-law’s arrival.
"Dad, is Mom busy?" Avery Graham called her father as she opened the door.
Mr. Graham came over, "Yes, she’s making dumplings. Don’t both you and Giselle love eating them? Every time we visit your grandparents’ homes, you both clamor for dumplings, right?"
"But isn’t making them yourself too much trouble? They sell them on the street, why not just buy some and leave it at that?" Avery Graham was not very supportive. Their family had gotten used to a simple and convenient lifestyle over the years, doing things themselves if unnecessary.
"How could that do? Not to mention today’s New Year’s Eve, but today is also Michael’s first formal visit. As his elders, we need to show some sincerity, right? Michael, come in and sit down. Your uncle may not have many skills, but he has a knack for making tea. Let him make you a cup," Mrs. Graham, hearing them enter the house, quickly came out of the Kitchen to greet them.
Seeing Michael Auclair with his arms full of items, though all purchased from shops and supermarkets—and she had checked the prices in advance in the supermarket—these were not cheap items.
She wasn’t concerned whether the future son-in-law was generous or stingy, but as the saying goes, whether the future son-in-law is generous or not indicates how much space her daughter occupies in his heart.
