Chapter 917: 003 Stay Overnight Together_7

"Uh, okay, I’ll go get my bag from the private room." Not used to seeing Bernard Taylor so serious, Avery Graham suddenly didn’t know how to refuse.

"I’ll get it; you just wait outside." Bernard Taylor said this and turned to leave.

Avery Graham washed her face again with water and sat in the chair outside to wait for him.

Bernard Taylor went in to get his things, took Avery’s as well, and settled the bill for the night. He even gave a card to Nelson Castillo and the others so they could go spend directly.

That’s how generous Bernard Taylor was, so Nelson and the others really had no way to hold him back or ask Avery if she wanted to stay.

Bernard helped Avery onto the back seat, and by then she indeed felt quite drunk, lying down horizontally as soon as she got in.

At that moment, Avery’s phone rang. Seeing her in a dazed state, Bernard gave up on the idea of waking her and simply opened her bag to take out the phone.

It was a message from Michael Auclair, saying that their company would probably be out all night long, and Giselle Browman might also return very late, so she shouldn’t wait up for her.

He was letting her know in advance.

After thinking for a moment, Bernard replied on Avery’s behalf, "Okay, drink less for me, please look after Giselle, thanks. I drank too much too, I’m going to sleep."

Then, Bernard turned off Avery’s phone.

Bernard sat back in the taxi’s passenger seat, and upon entering, he gave the driver the address of a hotel.

The hotel belonged to the Hawkins family; Bernard used a VIP card to book a room without using his own ID card.

He opted for a suite, which had every amenity and was even more comfortable than home.

Choosing the hotel instead of taking Avery home, Bernard admitted that he was a bit feverish, thinking that she would soon be someone else’s wife and, perhaps, tonight was a chance given by fate for them to be alone.

He had no intentions of doing anything to Avery, he just wanted to watch over her, even if just for one night.

It would be an additional memory for the rest of their lives.

Avery could hold her liquor quite well, except for vomiting earlier, she had been very quiet up until now.

Bernard put her on the bed, where she remained quiet and still.

Busy in the room, Bernard fetched water, wiped her face, bathed her, and changed her clothes—all without Avery making any fuss.

During these tasks, Bernard was extremely focused and didn’t let his eyes wander, including during the clothing change. His mind was devoid of any lascivious thoughts; he acted with earnestness and dedication, as if he were tending to a piece of art.

Finally, Bernard pulled the blanket over her and tucked her in. Then he proceeded to clean his own clothes and called room service to have their jackets washed.

Dressed in a white bathrobe, he stood by the window, pulling out a cigarette and smoking, the light from the cigarette end glowing and diminishing rhythmically in the unlit living room, in tandem with the neon lights outside.

He only took a couple of puffs before stubbing out the cigarette.

Returning to the living room, he sat on the sofa, switched on the TV, and flicked through channels aimlessly, not really watching. If you listened closely, the TV was silent; the fluctuating TV light on his face was the only indication that he wore no expression at all.

Avery was awakened by her thirst. She opened her eyes groggily, and, perhaps due to her intense desire for water, kept mumbling for it.

At the second request for water, Bernard immediately brought a glass to her room.

Avery, seeing the water, took it and drank several gulps, quickly emptying the glass.

"Need more?" Bernard asked softly.

"Yeah, another glass," Avery nodded, still a bit confused.

Bernard turned and went out to get more water. Probably after a glass of water, Avery’s mind began to clear a little.

Where is this? It doesn’t look like her room.

Bernard didn’t leave? He was taking care of her.

Are the two of them alone in a room now?

Bernard came back with another glass of water and saw Avery’s bewildered expression. He walked over, "Drink first, and whatever you want to ask, just ask."

"..." Avery drank the water, quickly emptying the second glass, "Where are we?"

"At the Hawkins Family’s hotel. You were drunk, and Michael Auclair messaged that he’s attending the company’s annual meeting with your sister, they might be out all night, and no one would be taking care of you, so I brought you here. Don’t worry, I’ve booked the Presidential Suite, which has two bedrooms," Bernard explained clearly.

"...I never doubted you," Avery nearly passed out, as she’d never doubted Bernard’s character.

"Actually, you can doubt me," Bernard replied earnestly all of a sudden.

He indeed had inappropriate thoughts for her, which many people knew about, and perhaps even Avery did, but she just pretended not to.

Avery: "..."

The two of them locked eyes, an unspoken tension quietly brewing between them.

Ultimately, it was Avery who looked away first, and that’s when Bernard’s lost sense of reason gradually returned.

"Bernard, we’re not right for each other, and also..."

"I know, it’s just for one night. Your sister won’t be coming back, and there’s no one to take care of you. I have an early flight tomorrow, and who knows when I’ll be back. Maybe I won’t even be able to attend your wedding, but the money will be there," Bernard nodded, showing he understood everything.

"...Then let’s just talk for a bit," Avery said as she pulled off the blanket, surprised to see her clothes had been changed.

"I had someone change them." Bernard’s ears turned red after he spoke; he wasn’t good at lying, so his ears would unconsciously redden whenever he did.

However, Avery did not know this.
