Chapter 915: 003 Stay Overnight Together_5

Meanwhile, Michael Auclair caught up to the infuriated Avery Graham and stepped forward, grabbing her wrist, "Avery, do you know who you were just talking to? The wife of the CEO of Taylor Family Jewelry Group."

"I know, and I’m more familiar with her than you are, but so what? I spoke the truth." Avery was inherently straightforward and had a clear sense of right and wrong. She didn’t want to bask in any glow of the Taylor Family, so she said whatever she wanted to say.

She didn’t plan on letting that woman be her mother-in-law. Nancy Sallow looked down on her, and since Nancy looked down on Avery, there was no reason for Avery to cozy up to her. Besides, she truly wished they could act as strangers, but that woman just liked to provoke her.

Avery was not someone to be bullied, nor was she the kind to not fight back.

She didn’t care about Bernard Taylor at all, so you can imagine what Nancy Sallow meant to her—a person unrelated by even a hint of connection. There was no reason for her to care about Nancy’s emotions.

"That’s not how you should talk. As people, we should always leave ourselves a way out. What if one day, we end up dealing with them?" Michael tried to persuade her, as he was accustomed to suffering indignities from working for others.

So, he believed that it was okay to put up with some grievances sometimes. After all, a step back could lead to a boundless future, right?

"I don’t need to leave myself a way out. Your company does advertising, right? You don’t have business dealings with their jewelry group, do you? Why are you so afraid of her?" This was the first time Avery had seen Michael behaving so timidly, and she felt somewhat dissatisfied.

"I’m not afraid of her, I’m just..."

"Alright, alright, let’s not talk about that woman anymore, okay? Anyway, I’ve already said what I had to say. There’s no way I’m going to apologize." Avery didn’t want to argue with him about this matter. She didn’t want to fight with him at this time, especially not over someone else’s affairs.

Michael had no choice but to keep silent since he hadn’t come out to urge her to apologize. He just wanted to tell her that it’s not always best to be so direct; some people can’t be dealt with by just speaking one’s mind.

Michael dropped Avery off at the building’s entrance, not taking the initiative to ask if he could come up for a visit, and Avery didn’t linger to persuade him otherwise. Holding onto the hairy crabs, she got out of the car and walked into the Residential Area without looking back.

Michael sighed softly and drove away.

————Separator Line————

These past few days, knowing that Avery was in a bad mood, Michael tried to avoid her as much as possible. Whether buying things or communicating, the two did so online or via mobile phone.

Avery didn’t mind. After all, the New Year’s shopping was almost done, and home delivery was simply about buying some wine, cigarettes, and nutritional products for the family. There were many high-end and classy options on the market, and Avery didn’t advocate excessive spending.

So Michael went and bought as Avery had requested.

On the day of the gathering, prodded by Nelson Castillo, Avery arrived quite early.

The next day would be New Year’s Eve.

When she arrived at half-past three in the afternoon, there were about a dozen people from her department, doctors and nurses, old and new alike. They needed two tables to sit everyone.

Dinner was set for six-thirty, giving them three hours, so they sat around two mahjong tables. Bernard Taylor was also among those playing.

As Avery walked over and observed, it seemed Bernard wasn’t very skilled at the game, and judging by his serious expression, he must have been taken for quite a bit.

"Avery, come on, feed the pig. I, your brother Nelson, have won quite a bit. Want to join me?" Nelson was in high spirits from his winnings and had a booming voice.

"You’ve already won so much. If I come and ’feed the pig’ with you, that wouldn’t be very smart. I’ll ’feed’ Bernard instead." Avery picked up a stool and sat down next to Bernard.

Then everyone laughed, "Avery, you’d better think carefully. With Bernard’s skills at cards, are you sure you want to team up with him?"

"Yeah, sure. Bernard, get up. I’ll play, and you provide the cash," said Avery, raising her eyebrows and then promptly asking Bernard to stand up so she could take his seat.

Nelson and the others were flabbergasted—who fed the pig like that?

But Bernard, very obedient, had already stood up.

And then the three men, who had already won a lot from Bernard, played rather carelessly against Avery. To everyone’s surprise, Avery had excellent card skills. By dinner time, she had won back all the money that Bernard had lost and then some—an additional three hundred plus, which they split evenly for a little over a hundred each.
