Chapter 908: Controlled_5

"Hmm, long time no see, Avery is in your care now. I have something else to attend to, so I’ll be leaving first," Bernard Taylor nodded, aware of Michael Auclair’s hidden animosity towards him.

"Hmm, thank you, Mr. Taylor, for bringing Avery home," Michael Auclair nodded with a smile.

"Bye-bye, bye-bye," Avery Graham waved to Bernard Taylor.

Bernard Taylor drove off, watching through the rearview mirror as Michael Auclair helped Avery enter the Residential Area.

He turned his head and merged into the flow of traffic.

——Separation Line——

Avery Graham got to their apartment and realized she hadn’t seen Giselle Browman, "Where’s Giselle?"

"She went out to buy some late-night snacks," Michael Auclair explained. That evening, instead of staying late with coworkers, the two of them had come back early with the intention of buying some food to eat with Avery.

But now, it seemed Avery had probably lost her appetite anyway.

"Oh," Avery nodded. She reached into her bag and fumbled around, but couldn’t find her keys.

Bernard Taylor had driven back down to the building after initially leaving. When he drove off, he had seen Avery’s keys fallen on the front passenger seat floor. He turned the car around and came back.

By the time he got to the entrance of the Residential Area, Avery hadn’t called, so he took the initiative to phone her.

"Hello?" As soon as Avery saw the incoming call from Bernard Taylor, she stopped her search for the keys.

"Avery, your keys are with me. Come down and get them," Bernard Taylor said and then hung up.

"..." Avery blanked out for a moment, just as Giselle Browman arrived back with the late-night snacks and noticed they were still at the entrance, "What’s the matter? Haven’t you opened the door yet?"

"I’m going down to get the keys, wait for me," Avery told Giselle and prepared to take the Elevator.

"Giselle, put the things down. You go down and get the keys," Michael Auclair pulled Avery back. He didn’t want Avery going down to face Bernard Taylor alone.

"Alright." At a personal level, Michael Auclair was her future brother-in-law; professionally, he was her superior. Giselle Browman never refused a request from Michael Auclair.

"This..." Avery didn’t understand Michael’s intentions, but since Giselle Browman had met Bernard Taylor and they knew each other, she didn’t object.

"Avery, we’ve been together for so long and I’ve never asked you for anything nor have I restricted you in any way. I know that being in love shouldn’t affect your freedom, and I’ve never thought to make you change anything for our love. But there’s just one thing, I hope you can keep some distance from Bernard Taylor, okay? He likes you, you know that, right? I feel insecure, and he truly is outstanding, outstanding to a point that makes me feel inferior. Would you keep your distance from him for my sake?"

Michael Auclair spoke with earnest sincerity, and for the first time, he humbly asked Avery to do something.

"..." Avery had not expected Michael Auclair to say such things because of Bernard Taylor. Who had been gossiping to him? "Who told you that he likes me? Besides, even if he does, yes, I admit he is very outstanding, but not all outstanding people are suitable for me. Besides, I think we’re pretty good together. How about this, if you’re really worried, you can come home with me for the New Year. I’ll introduce you to our relatives, okay?"

This was also the first time Avery had formally invited Michael Auclair to her home.

In that moment, Avery felt somewhat impulsive. In fact, when she woke up, she had some regrets, but some words once spoken cannot be taken back.

"Yeah, okay, I’ll prepare well. Once we get to your family’s place, you’ll come to my family’s home too, alright?" Michael Auclair was very happy; he had been waiting a long time for Avery to initiate the conversation.

His mother always questioned him about having a girlfriend. He had told her he did, but she hadn’t really believed it. He actually wanted to bring Avery home sooner but was afraid to pressure her.

So, it was better for Avery to bring it up voluntarily.

"Yeah, let’s settle on that then. For the New Year, we’ll meet the parents," Avery nodded.

Michael Auclair was thrilled and in his excitement, leaned in, hoping for a sweet kiss, but Avery turned her head to the side, "I had wine with Nelson Castillo today, my breath might smell bad."

Michael Auclair chuckled and didn’t force a kiss. After all, there was plenty of time, and after a few months together, they were finally making progress.
