Chapter 907: Controlled_4
"Don’t mention it, I just saw you guys and wanted to have some drinks with you. Why are you drinking herbal tea? Waiter, bring us three beers," Nelson Castillo waved the waiter over and ordered three beers directly.
"I’m driving, I won’t drink," Bernard Taylor flatly refused.
"Then I’ll drink with Avery," Nelson Castillo said without hesitation.
"Sure, I’ll drink with Doctor Castillo. It was he who took care of my Aunt’s appendectomy. Why don’t you sit down and eat with us?" Avery Graham suggested.
"No need, I just wanted to sit with you for a bit. We’re having a family dinner today and we’re in a private room," Nelson Castillo declined the invitation.
In the end, Avery Graham drank two beers and Nelson Castillo had one, while Bernard Taylor didn’t touch a drop.
He strictly followed the principle of not drinking and driving, and not driving after drinking, as he had to drive Avery Graham back later.
Avery could only manage two or three beers at most. After downing two, her face turned bright red. Knowing Bernard Taylor’s temperament, Nelson Castillo didn’t dare to encourage her further.
"Before the year ends, our department will have a dinner gathering. You two should come together. Bernard, I know you’re not leaving until after the New Year, so don’t refuse, okay? And Avery, this is a staff-only gathering," Nelson Castillo said before leaving, not giving them any chance to refuse.
Avery + Bernard: "..."
Both were somewhat speechless, this was just Nelson Castillo’s way of inviting people, whether they agreed or not.
After a hearty meal with plenty of wine, Bernard Taylor paid the bill, even taking care of the bill for the private room where Nelson Castillo’s group was. They hadn’t finished yet and he had no idea how many people there were, so he left three thousand yuan for their table before leaving with Avery Graham.
Along the way, Avery Graham wanted coffee. Bernard Taylor stopped by a convenience store and bought her instant coffee. Usually, she preferred brewed coffee, but with her caffeine craving kicking in, she wasn’t too picky this time.
Gulping it down, she immediately felt better.
When they arrived at the entrance of Avery Graham’s residential area, Bernard Taylor was about to get out of the car when he saw Michael Auclair standing up ahead, obviously having been waiting there for a while.
The moment Michael saw Bernard Taylor, he seemed a bit unsettled; he truly hadn’t expected Avery Graham’s colleague to be Bernard Taylor, and he was genuinely a bit competitive with him.
That’s because Giselle Browman had told him she thought Bernard Taylor liked her cousin, Avery. If it weren’t for Bernard’s mother constantly causing Avery trouble, he thought things between Avery and him might have been different.
At the time, this bothered him, as Giselle spoke and acted without thinking and never considered whether bringing this up could affect his relationship with her cousin.
However, precisely because Giselle was like this, he often had a clear idea of what was on Avery’s mind.
For instance, Avery’s desire to open several cake shop branches and her lack of interest in getting married at the moment. Otherwise, he worried that his impulsive proposal might upset Avery instead of pleasing her.
Because of this, he could clearly understand what Avery was thinking. After all, he truly liked Avery a lot, and also, her friends were all powerful figures which could greatly propel his career forward.
What he now had to do was wait patiently. Not every man was lucky enough to find a woman he liked who could also help his career.
Therefore, he cherished Avery deeply.
After watching Bernard Taylor for a while, he walked over to them. As Avery wasn’t drunk, she naturally saw Michael Auclair and smiled at him with her rosy cheeks, "You’re here? Why didn’t you go straight up?"
"..." Bernard Taylor just watched the two converse naturally. It looked like Michael Auclair had the keys to Avery’s home. The two must have been dating for quite some time now, probably with everything that was meant to happen having already happened.
Nancy Sallow had said the same to him. Later, he didn’t want to listen to Nancy anymore, so he agreed to meet Mona Cervantes, happy so long as Nancy would quiet down a bit.
Moreover, his not dating had nothing to do with Avery, yet somehow Nancy always managed to drag Avery into the equation.
Nowadays, it was normal for urban men and women to let things happen once they started dating.
"Giselle didn’t bring her keys, so she waited for you downstairs," Michael Auclair smiled warmly. Luckily it was so, or he wouldn’t have known they were dining together that evening, "Mr. Taylor, long time no see."
