Chapter 889: 017 Smoke Disperses, Clouds Disappear_2

Of course, this was an ordinary day that most ordinary people in the world shared.

However, Ellie Wilton felt that such a life was incredibly dull and tedious, which is why she was always so grateful for Vanessa Taylor’s guidance and companionship. For this woman, she even trusted more than her own parents, more than her family.

But now, this woman made her feel regret and horror.

Ellie really wanted to ask her why she had the heart to hurt Chen Chen like that, why she was so cruel to her, but the woman was no longer around. If she wanted to ask, she would have to join her in death.

Her heart was full of questions she wanted to ask, but Hannah Browman was also gone. The two people involved who knew the whole story were no longer present; there was nowhere to ask, and she truly felt stifled.

When Marcus Parker came back and heard from the servant that his wife had already returned, he quickly went to check on Ellie in their room.

In the middle of the day, Ellie had pulled the curtains tightly shut and hadn’t even turned on a light, which was very unlike her. Marcus felt it was strange; she must have encountered something.

He walked to the bedside, turned on the wall lamp, and the soft light was just right – not dazzling at all.

"Anna, are you asleep?" Marcus called softly.

When Ellie turned over, Marcus saw her tear-streaked face with the sorrow of a pear blossom in the rain, and his heart skipped a beat. "What’s wrong? Where did you go today? Why have you come back in tears? Did someone bully you?"

One question after another deeply expressed Marcus’s concern for her.

"..." Ellie didn’t speak but simply shook her head. For a moment, she felt that her life was a failure. She didn’t know what she had done wrong. She had always tried to be sincere with people and genuine with friends, but what had she gotten in return?

She had even thought about treating Hannah Browman’s four children as her own, and had even arranged to have a good dinner with them that evening. From then on, they would be a real family.

But, thinking of the terrible thing Hannah Browman did to her son, Ellie felt a hatred that could kill. Those years were full of pain; if she had not been strong-willed, she might have truly believed her son was dead and followed Chen Chen into death.

Only recently had her life begun to brighten, to become a bit happier, a bit more blissful.

She wondered, if Mrs. Parker had known that she had given birth to a grandson for her years ago and knew about the atrocious deed the daughter-in-law she always supported had done to her grandson, would she still have favored that woman the same?

But the elderly Mrs. Parker had passed away, as had Hannah Browman and Vanessa Taylor. Even if Ellie had many questions to ask, there was no one left to ask. Surely she couldn’t lose all dignity and go raving at their graves, could she?

Such an act was something Ellie Wilton couldn’t bring herself to do.

"What’s the matter? Why won’t you talk?" Marcus looked at her pale face, genuinely worried. "Are you feeling unwell? Should we go to the Hospital to check?"

"I don’t want to go anywhere, and I won’t be going to the dinner tonight either. You go by yourself. Let Beichen and Celia Wade finish and come home to have dinner with me; that’s enough," Ellie said coldly.

Marcus was taken aback by her words. Wasn’t she the one who had decided on tonight’s dinner? She spoke as if he was the one who wanted to meet with those four children.

And indeed, he was quite pleased with the sensible and mature behavior those four children had shown at the airport. Although the group could not be entrusted to any one of them to manage, he planned to reserve some positions for those four siblings through Beichen, so they wouldn’t have to worry about their livelihood and their standard of living wouldn’t decline too much.

No matter what, they all had his blood running through their veins. Even if he wasn’t so fond of their mother, they had been married for many years and had shown each other respect.

"Whether you go to the gathering or not isn’t important, but what’s going on with you? Tell me, please?" Marcus had a gut feeling that something was wrong and still didn’t know where she had gone this morning.

She had said she was going to see a friend, and he didn’t ask further.

"There’s nothing to talk about. I want to be alone; please leave," Ellie said, wiping away the tears on her face. Then she turned her back, not wanting to deal with Marcus at all.

Marcus watched her cold demeanor. Knowing her temperament, he dared not force her and had to leave the room first, leaving the wall lamp on for her. As he left, he closed the door behind him.
