Chapter 890: 017 Dissipating like Smoke and Clouds_3
Marcus Parker stepped outside and immediately had someone notify the others that tonight’s dinner was abruptly canceled, explaining that Auntie wasn’t feeling well and they would reschedule some other time.
None of the four said much, since Auntie wasn’t feeling well, deciding it could simply wait for another day.
Marcus Parker found some solace in their reaction, but Ellie Wilton had never acted like this towards him before. Today’s sudden change surely meant something must have happened when she left the house.
Ryan Parker and Celia Wade were still out watching a movie when they received Marcus Parker’s call and had no choice but to head home.
Upon arriving, Ryan Parker immediately saw the worried expression on his father’s face. Moreover, the living room was empty except for his dad, even though it was usually both his parents there. "Dad, where’s Mom?"
"Your mom is in her room. You and Celia go up and see her, and while you’re there, ask her what happened today," Marcus Parker said with a sigh, indicating his own inability to get answers or he wouldn’t have interrupted their evening.
Ryan Parker + Celia Wade: "..."
This was the first time they saw Marcus Parker with such an expression; there must have truly been some issue between them. They hurried upstairs to see Ellie Wilton, and upon reaching the door, Celia Wade tugged at Ryan Parker’s hand, "How about this, you go in and see Auntie, and I’ll go back to my room first."
Celia Wade was worried that Ellie Wilton might not know how to react upon seeing her, so she thought it best to excuse herself for the time being.
Ryan Parker nodded, then went ahead and pushed the door open to enter.
Ellie Wilton had already sat up at the edge of the bed; she had been unable to sleep, and upon seeing Ryan Parker enter, her emotions surged as she lunged toward him, clasping him tightly in a fierce embrace, then started sobbing violently.
"...Mom, what on earth happened?" Ryan Parker let Ellie Wilton cry for a while before gently pushing her back a bit, noticing her beautiful eyes red and swollen from crying.
"..." Ellie Wilton just kept sobbing, and for a long moment didn’t know what to say.
She needed to vent her feelings; unable to curse at someone’s grave, the only option left was to cry at home, mourning her past foolishness and her previous concessions. All she got in return for bearing such humiliation was still betrayal.
After crying for a good while longer, Ellie Wilton finally stopped. However, her eyes were filled with hatred as she looked at Ryan Parker, "Ryan, promise me you’ll take over your dad’s company, and then kick all four members of the Parker Family out of the company, denying them any shares. I want to make sure they never get a cent from the company’s profits."
Those four kids, accustomed to a lavish lifestyle, would soon squander all their money once they lost their shares. Then, they would have to live in poverty.
Hannah Browman targeted her own son simply to ensure a secured future for her four children. If that was her ultimate reason to plot the murder of her own son, then Ellie Wilton was determined not to let her wishes come to pass.
Ellie Wilton was no white lotus; after realizing such sinister intentions, she could no longer abide just keeping silent.
Moreover, she was now Marcus Parker’s wife. She was entitled to a portion of Marcus Parker’s wealth by law, and she would claim everything that belonged to her; she wouldn’t foolishly give it all to Hannah Browman’s children anymore.
"...Mom, you didn’t used to talk like this to me. You said that although we have different mothers, we share the same father, and that I shouldn’t fight over it," Ryan Parker said, puzzled as he looked at his own mother. When had Ellie Wilton changed her mind? He had originally intended to take over his father’s company since that was also his father’s wish.
As a son, he should be filial.
But after Ellie Wilton persuaded him, he changed his mind. Even if he didn’t take over the group, he could start his own company, just like his father said – a man should be able to provide for his family.
"That was when I was stupid and naive before, when I was separated from my own flesh and blood because of someone else’s scheming. I respected her so much and was so kind to her children. I’m no fool, and I’m not stupid, so why should I continue being that way?" Ellie Wilton couldn’t take it anymore and started shouting loudly.
Marcus Parker, who had followed them upstairs and was eavesdropping at the door, suddenly burst in. What did she mean by someone else’s scheming causing separation from her own flesh and blood? He had always harbored suspicions about the fire that Ryan Parker spoke of, because too many things had happened that year, and the people he sent to investigate didn’t come back with any useful information.
