Chapter 761: Chapter 761: Pre-marital Rules (1)

What Bryan Hawkins did not expect was that after dinner, his grandmother put the rule into effect and insisted that he return to the Hawkins family with them. Carolline and Axel went back with Henry Ruiz and Emily Hill.

Bryan looked pitifully at Emily Hill, who showed no sympathy. "Bryan, it’s just a few days. Bear it and it’ll pass. Think about the decades you have ahead with Carolline and it’ll be fine."

"..." Bryan could only remain silent. He understood what she meant—if he couldn’t bear it, their happiness for the next few decades might be destroyed because of his stubbornness.

Of course, they didn’t believe in this superstition, but sometimes it could be seen as a form of faith. If people followed these superstitions, their hearts would be steadier and more at ease.

Whatever, the elderly have many rules, but who’s to say it isn’t for their own good?

Bryan glanced at Carolline, who probably didn’t feel any pain from the separation. He couldn’t bear even a second apart from her, yet she showed no sign of sadness. It made him want to spank her bottom.

"Grandma, can I have lunch with my wife and kid tomorrow?" Bryan was no longer trying to get through to Emily, and wanted to play the affection card. Fine, not being able to sleep with his wife at night, he accepted. But he could at least have lunch at his mother-in-law’s during the day and sneak in a visit with his wife and son.

"It’s better not to see each other these days as much as possible." Unexpectedly, Grandma Hawkins left no room for negotiation. Bryan felt the sky was about to collapse.

It was a whole week to endure, an entire week.

"Alright, stop acting like your life is over. William Hawkins went through the same thing with Shopie and didn’t complain like you. You’re supposed to be the big brother here." Grandmother Hawkins ordered the driver to get Young Master Bryan in the car.

Reluctantly, Bryan got in the car. The situation was reminiscent of a scene from a period drama, where a young master or lady was forced into the car, bid farewell, and departed for a heart-wrenching, tearful good-bye.

But Carolline showed no signs of reluctance, and waved cheerfully to Bryan. She also politely said goodbye to each elder in the Hawkins family. Axel did the same, and they got into another car.

"Axel, Grandma will pick you up from school on Monday to have dinner with your dad, alright? It’s a rule that the couple isn’t supposed to see each other, but it’s fine for a child to visit." Sophia Lawson came over and spoke to Carolline and Axel through the car window.

"Okay." Axel agreed. Seeing his father’s state earlier made him feel sorry for him.

Of course, at this moment, Axel couldn’t foresee that his future self would be pitiful too. He’d even resent his dad for enduring this and now putting his son through it too.

Unbelievably, Bryan justified it by saying that sons were meant to be tricked. He flatly denied his son’s request to see his fiancée ten days before his wedding.

As an adult, Axel suffered greatly and even resorted to scaling windows and utilizing his skills from his conscript days to secretly see his wife-to-be.

However, this father-son tormenting tradition continued for generations. Funnily enough, Axel ended up having a daughter, which made Bryan envy him even more.

He wondered how he wasn’t so lucky. All he had were two stinky sons.

So, he continued to torment his sons relentlessly.

Of course, that’s another story for another time.
