The nurses who had been secretly watching were all startled by this scene.

Carolline Ruiz removed her white coat, grabbed her bag, and left ten minutes after the end of her shift. As she went downstairs, she bumped into Megan Clifton, who was slowly coming down as well.

Megan’s belly was getting bigger and bigger, and Andy Aguirre urged her not to take the elevator during the after-work rush hour. It was okay for her to leave a little later, so Megan now usually stayed for another ten minutes or so before leaving.

"You’re leaving late today too?" The two women looked at each other and smiled as Carolline entered the elevator.

But Carolline had no idea that Gary Skate was still on their floor. As soon as Carolline entered the elevator, Gary quickly followed her in.

Megan was startled, "Dean Skate, what performance are you putting on today?"

"?" Gary was stung by Megan’s sarcasm. Was he doing some sort of performance? However, he knew that Megan was Carolline’s good friend, and initially kept a straight face. Now that his identity was exposed, there was no point in acting, "Nothing much, just trying to make peace with you two. How about it? Can I have the honor of inviting you two beauties to have lunch together?"

"Has the sun risen from the west? No, it still rose from the east when I came to work this morning." Megan’s expression was exaggerated. Besides, she, as a pregnant woman, was not allowed to eat outside unless it was absolutely necessary.

"..." Carolline’s friend was quite the snarky one too. Gary was sweating, "It has nothing to do with where the sun rises from. I sincerely apologize to you two. Please accept, Carolline?"

"..." Megan was stunned. This man was actually addressing Carolline by her first name. How had their relationship improved? And how was she not aware of anything?

"He’s a good friend of Bryan Hawkins." Carolline didn’t make a mystery of it.

"Huh?" Megan was completely baffled.

In the end, unable to withstand Gary’s persistence, Carolline and Megan both agreed to have lunch with him. Moreover, Henry Ruiz ate in the cafeteria, and Emily Hill ate in the kindergarten. Including Andy Aguirre, the four of them had lunch together.

It was only then that Andy and Megan learned the reason for Gary’s presence here. Bryan Hawkins had really gone to great lengths to keep Carolline from working.

After some explanation, the misunderstanding between Megan, Carolline, and Gary was resolved. Seeing that Carolline wasn’t angry with him anymore, Gary naturally turned to Bryan Hawkins, "Carolline, since you’re no longer angry with me, don’t be angry with him either. He really cares about you."

"...Yeah, I know. We made up yesterday. Haven’t he told you?" Carolline nodded with a smile.

"What?" At this, Gary had a taste of what it meant to be cast aside once the other person found a better option. He was jumping up and down like a clown trying to help someone win their wife back. But little did he know that the couple had already reconciled yesterday. It was unbelievable.

"By the way, Deputy Director Skate, the position of dean really doesn’t suit you. You should stop listening to him and quickly go back to your Health Bureau as Deputy Director." Carolline raised her teacup, using tea in place of wine, to toast Gary.

"I’ve already refused before. Even if I wanted to go back, it would have to be after three years." Gary accepted, not feeling it was a big deal. After all, gaining experience at the grassroots level meant no one could gossip about him when he returned later.
