Chapter 677: Chapter 677: Individual Retribution (8)
So, how could she not hate this woman?
Of course, she hated her. Now she had completely lost her son, and it was because of Daisy Willow and Elena Duncan, the mother and daughter duo. If she could turn back time, she thought, she would have kidnapped and killed Elena first, making Daisy Willow’s life crazier than her own.
Unfortunately, time cannot be turned back, and the opportunity has been missed, never to return.
Was she going to die here like this?

In the Duncan villa, apart from Katie, Cole Duncan had dismissed almost all of the remaining servants, as the company had been sold and he still had some money. The severance pay for the servants was quite high, and they all left happily after expressing their gratitude.
The highest severance pay belonged to Katie. It was a thin bank card with a seven-digit deposit in it.
After Katie had cleaned for Cole, she pushed him to the bed. On the way there, Cole handed her the envelope, and she hesitated, not taking it. "Young Master, do you want me to leave too?"
"Go. I know your family needs money. This money is enough to support your whole family. You’re still young; go and study at an adult high school." Cole was giving Katie so much money because he didn’t want her to be a servant to anyone else. He knew her family needed money, so this was his support for her and her family, rather than a severance payment.
"No, Young Master, I promised Lady Elena that I would take good care of you. Now your company has been sold, and so has the villa. You need someone to take care of you. Wherever you go, I will follow. Please, Young Master, don’t make me leave, all right?" Katie was genuinely anxious, and she knelt down to beg.
She didn’t know how much money Cole had given her, but if it was enough to support her whole family and still give her time to study, it must have been an impressive amount. However, she felt that it was wrong to accept money for doing nothing. Since the Young Master didn’t plan to use her anymore, she couldn’t take the money.
"Katie, get up," Cole said coldly. He didn’t like the way Katie would quickly kneel down.
Hearing the seriousness in Cole’s voice, Katie reluctantly stood up, keeping her head low and refusing to take the envelope. Now that the young master had lost everything, she couldn’t leave him.
"Take this money," Cole insisted, stuffing the envelope into her hand. Katie couldn’t resist, but with the envelope in her hand, she pouted and her eyes reddened, looking utterly pitiful.
Cole looked at her like this and felt a little sympathy. He sighed silently and finally spoke.
"I heard your hometown is full of water. It’s a genuine water village, isn’t it?" Cole asked.
"Yes, it’s like what you see on TV. People go out on bamboo rafts to buy groceries, and it’s very beautiful. Everyone there knows how to swim, and some people don’t even need a raft during the summer. They swim directly to their destinations." When talking about her hometown, Katie’s eyes sparkled. She had been away for some years and had hardly returned during the past two years.
"Anyway, I have nothing to do, and you haven’t been home for a while. How about we visit your hometown for a while? I could travel and stay there for a bit. What do you think?" Cole asked calmly, looking at Katie.
"Really?" Katie hesitated for a moment before realizing what Cole was saying. Her face instantly brightened, radiant with joy.
"Would I lie now?" Cole asked with a smile. "Alright, go pack up your things. Tomorrow someone will come for the house, and we will stay at a hotel tomorrow night. Then, we will book tickets to go to your hometown."
"Okay, Young Master. I’ll start packing." Katie nodded enthusiastically and walked out of the room, only to run back in a short while later. Cole was working hard, supporting himself with both hands, trying to move his heavy body onto the bed. Katie saw and quickly stepped forward to help, forgetting that Cole was not yet on the bed.
"Why did you come back?" Cole asked grumpily from his pillow after getting onto the bed.
Actually, he could have managed to get into bed by himself. It would have been a bit more difficult, but it was something he could get used to. Despite Katie’s small stature, she had incredible strength. No wonder Debbie Duncan had assigned her to take care of him. Even a slightly weaker man might not be able to match her strength.
Katie explained that she was the eldest in her family, with two brothers and one sister under her. Since she was five, she had taken on more than half of the housework, carrying her siblings on her back to cut firewood in the mountains and bringing the firewood and people down the mountain together.
In addition to fetching water and cooking, these tasks had made her very strong over the years.
"I forgot to ask you, Young Master, now that Lady Debbie has woken up, should we see her one last time before we leave?" Katie didn’t like Debbie, but after all, she was Cole’s mother. He had always been filial to her despite not liking her.
So she thought that even though Debbie had done something wrong this time and Cole said he didn’t acknowledge her anymore, it was probably just for show, and he still considered her his mother in his heart.
"No." Cole’s face darkened when hearing about Debbie.
"..." Katie sighed, realizing that Cole genuinely didn’t care about Debbie anymore. She didn’t know how she could be so oblivious, ruining a harmonious atmosphere.
"Alright, go upstairs. I don’t need you here anymore. I’m tired, and I want to rest." Cole laid down on the bed and closed his eyes.
Katie glanced at him, helped him dim the light, and then left the room.
Once Katie left, Cole opened his eyes again. He stared blankly at a spot on the ceiling, and thoughts of Debbie flooded his mind. He didn’t know when Debbie had become like this, or whether she had always been this way. Because he was Debbie’s son and she genuinely loved him, he had never understood his mother under the guise of love.
It wasn’t that he didn’t want to see her, but rather, he didn’t know how to face a mother like this. So it was better not to see her at all.
