The anesthesia had worn off, yet Celia Wade remained unconscious. The main doctor told Carolline Ruiz when he came to check, informing her that the patient was simply too exhausted and had fallen into a deep sleep, so she should not worry. Carolline could then breathe a bit easier.

Carolline also inquired about the condition of Jordy Wade, the thing was, the doctor’s account wasn’t as encouraging as Celia’s situation had been. The news struck Carolline like a sudden blow to the chest. If Celia were to wake up and find out that Jordy was in a coma, Carolline had no idea what she would think.

What Carolline was more curious about was how Celia had ended up with Jordy, moreover, how they had gotten involved in such a bizarre car accident. Only when Celia wakes up would they come to know the entire truth.

However, what Carolline didn’t expect was Celia’s deep slumber. It was now nighttime, and Celia still hadn’t awakened. Carolline began to worry. She had just undergone major surgery and was not eating. Carolline wondered how long her body could endure this, even fearing that Celia may never wake up again.

Regrettably, the doctor’s diagnosis was that the patient was in a deep sleep rather than a coma. He assured Carolline not to worry and mentioned that once the patient’s sleep cycles restore, she will wake up.

So, what had Celia been through that had worn her out to this extent?

When Bryan Hawkins came to deliver dinner, he brought two caretakers along, one to look after Jordy Wade, and the other to care for Celia.

They ate dinner together. When Sophia Lawson called to ask them if they were coming to pick up Axel, Bryan Hawkins glanced at Carolline’s state and turned her down. He told Sophia that Axel could stay with her for another day, they would pick him up tomorrow.

Sophia Lawson didn’t ask much; she agreed to his request. After all, Axel being at home was what she desires the most.

Carolline didn’t object either. Both of them had been waiting in the hospital since noon, and Celia still hadn’t woken up. Carolline couldn’t wrap her head around what might have happened between the two of them.

"Is Jordy’s condition really that bad?" Carolline let out a sigh. She wondered what sort of karma could have filled Celia’s life with such hardship.

"Yes." Bryan Hawkins simply nodded.

At this point, he really didn’t know how to react to the situation.

All he could say was that it was all down to fate.

If Jordy indeed ended up in a vegetative state, that would probably relieve half of the burden he had been carrying on his shoulders. Bryan didn’t believe that a person in a vegetative state could possibly take care of someone who was paralyzed from the waist down.

Furthermore, Jordy had already given enough on his end, so much so that he had given up the woman he loved for so many years out of a sense of responsibility. Bryan truly believed that it was quite rare for a man to go to such lengths as Jordy had.

If not for this accident, Bryan wasn’t sure how long Jordy would have continued to endure this painful ordeal, having to remotely watch over the woman he loved, yet having to tend to a woman he didn’t love.

Celia’s suffering wasn’t at all overlooked by Jordy, but witnessing it and doing anything about it were two very different things. The burden they both shared was simply too heavy. He didn’t care for himself, but he couldn’t let Celia bear more of the societal stigma.

Therefore, Jordy not regaining consciousness could possibly be a blessing in disguise, at least he found some form of relief. Unfortunately, this probably meant increasing sorrow for Celia.

"Why is this happening? How could something so terrible occur?" Carolline sighed, thinking about what Celia would face once she woke up, Carolline lost her appetite.

"You must finish your dinner, you hardly ate anything at noon, and you have to work tomorrow. When Celia wakes up, she’ll need your encouragement. You have a lot on your plate, and you can’t afford to wear yourself out, understood?" Knowing about their relationship, Bryan Hawkins equally cared for his old and new friends, even if it felt like Carolline was just an old maid. Besides supporting her, Bryan Hawkins had no other solutions.
