Chapter 482: Chapter 482: Enemies Encounter on the Narrow Road (1)
Since Daisy Willow hadn’t received a call from Simon Carrington, she was reluctant to leave the warmth of her family home. So she stayed at the Willow family’s residence with Elena Duncan for two more days.
During these days, Carolline Ruiz called her, saying that the procedures for her new position in Hawkins Family were underway; once she returned, she could complete any remaining formalities. Daisy thanked Carolline profusely—having a stable job, she now had the means to stand up against Cole Duncan in the courtroom.
She was truly grateful for Carolline’s help. Without her, Daisy couldn’t imagine how much more she could have endured. On her own, she was no match for Cole Duncan and his mother.
On the evening of the fifth day, Simon Carrington’s call finally came through. The trial date had been set for five days later. In the meantime, there were still some matters that Daisy needed to handle in G City, so she promised to book a ticket for the next day.
After hanging up the phone, Daisy began packing her and Elena’s belongings in their room.
Seeing her daughter not in the kitchen, Willow’s mother brought some fruit to the bedroom and found Daisy packing. Her expression changed instantly, "What’s going on? Are you leaving?"
"Yes, Mom. I still have some things to take care of in G City. After I’m finished, I’ll bring Elena back." Since Daisy had already decided to divorce Cole Duncan, she no longer hid the truth from her family.
"So you’re going to discuss the divorce with the Duncan family?" Her mother nodded, showing understanding, "Then Elena shouldn’t go. We’ll take care of her instead, so you can focus on taking care of everything. What do you think?"
After spending so many days together, they had grown very fond of Elena and didn’t want to part ways so soon.
"Mom, I’d better take Elena with me for now. I’m worried she might have to appear in court." If she could, Daisy really didn’t want to involve Elena in any of this, but if the Duncan family insisted on being so ruthless, she had no choice but to let Elena suffer the consequences.
"Is that so?" Willow’s mother knew that neither her daughter nor granddaughter could stay, and though it was hard to let them go, she understood the situation. "Then let me help you pack. You go have some fruit."
The fruit was a high-end variety, dragon fruit, which Daisy had bought from the outside. They didn’t like it, so they gave it all to Daisy and Elena. While the Willows had tried it before, they still preferred the local oranges.
Willow’s mother learned to prepare it from Daisy, cutting it into pieces and serving it with toothpicks.
Elena had a plate of it, happily savoring the taste.
Unable to refuse her mother’s insistence, Daisy sat down to eat the dragon fruit as well. The delicate, subtle flavor was to her liking. She remembered her father’s reaction to the exotic fruit—furrowing his brow at the black seeds inside and exclaiming what on earth could be delicious about them?
She didn’t bother explaining. Some things simply couldn’t be conveyed through words.
Knowing her parents weren’t keen on the fruit, Daisy later bought them oranges and watermelon instead. The whole family enjoyed the meal.
Daisy hadn’t brought much with her, so with her mother’s efficient hands, it didn’t take long to pack up everything. Now that they were leaving the next day, she needed to inform her father, her big brother, and her sister-in-law as well.
Following her mother into the living room, Daisy saw Elena sitting on her grandfather’s lap, laughing and playing with him. Elena even reached out to touch her grandfather’s face, seemingly trying to pluck his whiskers. Yet he didn’t seem annoyed but rather wore a big smile on his face.
Surprised by the scene, Daisy recalled that her father had always struck her as a very serious man, never treating her with such affection when she was young. Wanting to prevent Elena from bothering the elderly man, Daisy called out, "Elena, come down quickly! How did you climb onto grandpa’s lap?"
Before Elena could say anything in reply, she tried to get down, obeying her mother as always. But her grandfather held her firmly in his arms, refusing to let go. "What’s wrong with that?" he asked. "As a grandfather, I enjoy playing with Elena. It’s not a problem."
