Chapter 459: Chapter 459: Wishes Come True (3)
In fact, she could’ve driven herself to and from work. Her little car remained parked at the Hospital Parking Lot, but Bryan Hawkins insisted on driving her every day.
Her colleagues greatly envied her, their jealousy eventually subsiding to leave only the envy behind.
On the way, Bryan Hawkins controlled the steering wheel with one hand, holding her hand with the other. "You’re on leave tomorrow, aren’t you? So are we going back to the villa tonight?" he asked.
"Are you on leave tomorrow as well?" Carolline Ruiz looked at him. It was Thursday tomorrow, and he had asked her to keep her schedule free. She had originally intended to attend a party, and had told her colleagues she wouldn’t be joining them.
Her colleagues all understood and didn’t give her a hard time. Another colleague ended up taking her place at the event.
The charity banquet hosted by the Miller Family was very important to them, and being able to attend at all was deemed a privilege.
"Would you accompany me to work then?" Bryan Hawkins raised his eyebrows and smiled suggestively.
His romantic experiences with Phoebe Miller had never felt this way. In love, he was a man with restraint. He’d never felt the need to be with his partner twenty-four hours a day.
But now, five years after their split, he found himself wanting to keep Carolline Ruiz by his side every second of every minute. Every time his eyes opened, or he raised his head, he wanted her to be within view. Every time he reached out, he wanted her within arm’s reach.
At first, he thought this change was because they had been apart for five years. Later, he realized that it wasn’t. He just inexplicably wanted to be with Carolline Ruiz every single day.
He’d never before been able to relate to those emperors who would neglect their duties for a woman’s sake but now, he finally understood.
In his life, he had acknowledged two girlfriends - Phoebe Miller and Matilda Ferguson - but neither were able to evoke such feelings.
"..." Carolline Ruiz didn’t want to go, even though she had never been to the Hawkins Family. She ultimately backed out, "I’d like to sleep in on my days off."
So, was that a rejection?
Bryan Hawkins chuckled, he had guessed this lazy girl’s intentions. He had finished all of tomorrow’s work today, so he didn’t have to be at the Hawkins Family tomorrow.
"Alright, as you wish," Bryan Hawkins indulged her.
In the end, Bryan Hawkins drove to their apartment, where a supermarket was located downstairs. They parked the car and walked to the supermarket to do some grocery shopping. Once home, Carolline Ruiz began preparing dinner in the kitchen while Bryan Hawkins showered and changed into comfortable clothes.
He naturally ran to the kitchen to lend a hand. And so, life continued: they would head out for work together, return home together, grocery shop and prepare dinner together, take strolls after dinner, do the things that lovers do before sleep, then drift off to Dreamland together.
She now understood, this was the essence of happiness.
Faced with Bryan Hawkins’ enthusiasm, Carolline gave him a broccoli to break into small bits, rinse, and plate.
To Carolline, this task was the easiest, hence she entrusted him and proceeded to busy herself: steaming rice, cutting meat, prepping and plating vegetables, mixing meat, boiling soup.
When all that was done, she stood by and began to stir-fry dishes, the first being a stir-fry of celery and beef.
In under half an hour, Carolline had prepared stir-fried celery beef, chicken and mushroom stewed in a pressure cooker, steamed pork ribs, and stir-fried green pepper with shredded potato. Remembering the broccoli, Carolline went to get it from Bryan.
As it turned out, the broccoli in his hands was not cut into small pieces as she’d expected. Instead, it had become minced broccoli. Fortunately, the colander she was using had a mesh separator, otherwise even traces of minced broccoli wouldn’t have been left.
